First of all, this is never a 4 star hotel. The location is very good but this is a far as it goes. Our room was very small and just ok, similar in many ways to a Premier Inn. The breakfast was very poor, I hate eating food that is luke warm at best and as for the eggs, they looked most unappetising, so I didn't bother, also the bacon was very fatty and again almost cold. On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. I also thought that the staff were very friendly and helpful. Another word of warning, the parking is a nightmare and about 10 minutes walk away. Collapse

We arrived on a Saturday having booked a night with a 2 course dinner. Prior to this the hotel had emailed us (and other guests with email addresses disclosed) to offer us an alternative, a 3 course buffet dinner with disco instead of the 2 course sit down meal. We had already decided against the buffet meal as we wanted table service. However, even though we had purchased the 2 course dinner we were told that we had no choice but to have the buffet because "the chef had refused to cook any other food" (or words to that effect). No apology was offered initially. Eventually we were told that we could have lunch the following day instead (which we didn't want due to the big breakfast) or (after some pushing) we could have a refund on the dinner cost. However, service at breakfast and at checkout was good. The positives: The hotel could not be in a better location - it is directly opposite Windsor castle The rooms are large and generally clean Lots of choice for breakfast which you can have up to 11am on Sunday Nice decor in the restaurant and pretty exterior The negatives: Our room was pretty average (think Premier Inn). I would definitely not call it luxurious or 4 star The bathroom had a window looking out onto the street with no translucent cover. You have to keep the blind down, unless you want to flash people! Few toiletries included Customer service lacking at times (see above) Collapse
The hotel next door is a lot better...

This hotel opposite Windsor Castle offers great location to local bars, pubs and restaurants at a premium. Not cheap given the fact the rooms are not very modern, dark and bathroom just ok but clean. Breakfast is decent, the bar is dreadful (helpful staff but can't make cocktails). One last niggle: please move the check out elsewhere... Collapse

.... shame about the room, the bathroom, the lack of hot water. When we phoned down about the water we were told to wait half an hour, not ideal if you have a train to catch! The room had a saggy bed and loads of condensation every morning, the bathroom had a broken toilet seat, no seal of the shower screen meaning the bath panel was rotten. The breakfast is ok, but it is obviously all put out first thing, so the pastries are stale by 9.30. The beans came out of the kitchen all congealed too. The room keys stopped working after day 2 and we had to get them redone. When we checked out the front desk had no sympathy, not really understanding we'd been there for 3 nights and had spent the best part of £600. I won't be back. Collapse

The hotel is well decorated and in a superb location. Our room was lovely but in need of a thorough clean. The room was dusty, there was hair in the bath and the sink was dirty. All of these things could have been overlooked had it not been for the disturbed nights sleep we had owing to the fire alarm going off twice in the early hours of the morning. The cause of this alarm was a group of guests who were drunk. I would have expected the hotel to be more vigilant of its guests behaviour. Especially when the hotel plied the guests with alcohol! I emailed the General Manager following our stay and have yet to have received any response. Windsor was lovely but wouldn't like to risk another stay in this hotel. Collapse
