If you go yo must use the Manx Railways, they are an experience. The hotel room was at the back of the hotel and was very warn, we had to have a fan going 24 hours a day. Overall were would say excellent value for money and would recommend it to anyone. Collapse

Our trip was very hastily arranged due to coming over to attend the funeral of a close family member and there being no more room at our relatives home. We arrived early on the morning of the funeral and as I had rung ahead a few days earlier the hotel made sure we were able to check-in early so that we were able to change and freshen up. We did have to go and grab a coffee whilst they finished getting the room ready but they were able to store our luggage and offered an umbrella due to the downpour outside. They also booked a taxi to the crematorium for us. The room was just right for our requirements and the free Wi-Fi was most appreciated when you have two teenagers! We didn't have dinner in the restaurant but did have breakfast which was lovely and there was plenty of choice. Room service was very quick and very tasty. All staff that we encountered were very professional, friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a very central location and not far from shops and restaurants. This hotel is a bit pricey but I would definitely recommend. Collapse

We have just returned from a two night stay at The Claremont. Arrived early Friday morning and got a taxi straight to the hotel. As it was only 10am we were too early to check in but they kindly offered to store our bags while we went off to explore. Unfortunately the weather wasn't too kind to us on Friday and whilst exploring we got caught in a severe downpour. We returned to the hotel around mid day to sit and wait for our room out of the rain. The reception staff were very apologetic that our room wasn't available. We hadn't expected it to be ready as it was still two hours before check in time and we're happy to wait. They very kindly came and found us in the lounge with some towels to dry ourselves off which we did. At 12.30 the receptionist came and found us to say our room was ready and they had upgraded us to a business room which was a lovely surprise. An early check in and an upgrade! The room we had was room 108 at the back of the hotel and neatly tucked away down its own short staircase off the main corridor. The room was wonderful, separate lounge area, large very modern bathroom with glass sink, rain shower. The bed was very very comfortable memory foam mattress. Although it had two large windows the only downside was there was no view, it looked directly onto the side wall of the neighbouring building. Although this sounds disappointing we in fact soon realised that this would work in our favour as it meant that we had no traffic or passing people noise that we would have got at the front of the hotel. The room had no air con but again with the two large windows was not a problem as we opened the windows wide and left them open which kept the room lovely and cool (although it was raining when we arrived the rest of the weekend turned out to be very warm and sunny). Even with the windows open at night we were not disturbed by any noise. Every single staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful. Even the maintenance man who we passed in the corridor acknowledged us. The nightly turn down service leaving chocolate on the pillow and the radio quietly on for when you return to the room was a lovely touch. Breakfast was very good, great choice on the menu all cooked to order plus continental buffet selection. We rate we paid for our stay was very reasonable.we have paid a lot more to stay in places that are nowhere near this standard. I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking to stay in a central location, walking distance to sea port and steam train station. Thank you Claremont staff for making us so welcome. Collapse

My wife wanted to visit the IOM so went on line and chose the Claremont hotel. We received a friendly greeting on arrival and as we were on the 3rd floor pleased to see the lift was working (recent experience says they don't always) as we had a couple of heavy suitcases, however on reaching 3rd floor realised we still had stairs to contend with but not a major problem. The room was nice though a little cramped but had large comfortable bed which is a plus for me. The bathroom was very spacious with his and hers basins. Considering how large it was the shower was not, but it was acceptable with decent water pressure. Both rooms had excellent views of the bay. The hotel is in an ideal location. The food was average with breakfasts fairing better than dinner and it's not cheap to stay here. The service was quite good and the staff were polite. The real downside was the fire alarm which went off a number of times. The second time the hotel was evacuated at 5.00am until 2 fire engines arrived and eventually gave the all clear. Apparently there may have been a fire in the kitchen. The problem was every time the alarm went off afterwards you didn't know if it was false or not. Collapse

My wife and I have just spent a brilliant weekend in Douglas Isle of Man as winners of a Manx Tourist Board competition. We received a two night B&B stay at the fabulous Claremont Hotel with charming views across Douglas Bay. As expected both the hotel and service were superb, staff very friendly and accommodating and breakfast was gorgeous including the famous Manx kippers. The hotel is perfectly located for access to shops, bars and restaurants and public transport from Airport stops right outside. We would certainly recommend The Claremont and look forward to returning in the future. Collapse
