To be honest from the moment we arrived it was bad, the booking agent had not notified the hotel of our booking therefore we were arrived and given a standard room. We were really upset as it was not with a view to see the animals as our daughter was promised. Then it just got worse we couldn't book a restaurant to eat therefore the hotel after some hours gave us an option to order food and we could pick it up. By half 8 at night our daughter was beside herself as she was hungry and overtired. We finally got dinner and fell into bed exhausted from trying to book in and get something to eat. To be fair this may not have been such an ordeal had the booking have been made properly by the booking company. It was expensive stay for what it was! I would not do it again and would choose to stay outside of the resort in future. Collapse

Stayed here for one night and had a lovely stay. The room was clean and the evening entertainment was great for the kids! We also had a room that looked out onto the little monkey enclosure so kids enjoyed opening the curtains and watching them in the morning! Only complaint I would say is they could do with a few more lifts as check in and out time is very busy and if you have a pushchair and need the lift it can be a very annoying 10 minutes wait as the lifts keep going up and down and there is no room or it misses your floor completely! Will be going here again! Collapse

Having booked and paid for a Monkey Temple themed room and even arriving early at the hotel to leave bags we were advised that the room was under maintenance. We were moved to a room on a lower floor that was allegedly the same and I quote - "it just has less butterfly stickers on the walls". We were given a couple of fast passes for the park as compensation. On arrival at the room I discover it's a standard room. Not the room I paid for which was more expensive and I imagine much nicer. The lady who lied to me said that if I was unhappy with the room to go back to reception and we could move to our original room once it was fixed. By the time I get back she's disappeared and manager Ben tells me that there are no rooms we can move to. He did offer a refund but I was so upset I had to leave. Our special trip as a family following husband returning from military deployment has been ruined. End result? I'm upset. Family didn't get the experience we were promised. We paid more for a special room and were dumped in a standard room and the hotel get to keep the money. Great business for the hotel. Never again. Collapse

We had an amazing 2 nights at the hotel which my husband had no idea i booked 2 sperate rooms. We turned up and i sent our kids and my husband to watch tv while i checked in I explained to the lady that we were actually staying 2 nights in a different room to completely confuse my husband and put him off the scent. Julie the receptionist was more than happy to go to extra mile and help me make some suprises happen and checked us in to a lovely room with a view. She offered to even move our luggage for us to make my life easier and for me to keep suprising. She gave tbe kids a pop badge each and my husband a special biryhday pop Our first room was tbe discovery room lots of room childrens own sleeping apartment . the room was very clean and very comfy. Breakfast we had in temple restaurant was nice and staff were friendly . We checked out. On our return for our second room we were met by Julie again who knew what we done during the day and asked my husband how was his day and did he enjoy his experince he had been booked on to and took time to find out hoe it went and said happy birthday to him. In our temple summit room with a view. We had a birthday package and a birthdsy card from the staff. Which was lovely room was very clean and loads of space and separate kids area for sleeping. We went down to zurfia restaurant for a lovrly birthday meal with baloons on the table snd they brought a cake out too. Staff were amazing and food was lovely. We went for breakfast in zurfia which i say is thr quieter restaurant for breakfast and the one we perfer but both great restaurants. When we went to check out i went to find some information out snd was met st reception by a lady called Betty she tried to find out the answer out for me and where i could pick up this certian item she calked around but the people who knew the anwer were not in. She did not give up snd she said leave your name address and phone number and i send them once i find them. 3 days later true to her word she posted the items she found and have 2 very happy children. Thank you so much Julie and Betty for making our stay a memble one that we wont forget your a credit to chessington and merlin thank you Collapse

Having stayed at Chessington before in a standard room in the safari hotel we thought as the kids were now that little older they'd appreciate the amazing decor of the room and glad to say we weren't wrong. Their little faces when we open the door and we're met by images of cheeky monkey, colourful Toucans and Macaws and the amazing view from the window overlooking the Wanyama. The room is definitely worth that little extra and if you can plan your trip right you can get a great deal. This time we are staying for 2 nights a it's a long drive from South Yorkshire and tiredness does hit you after a great day of seeing the amazing animals and going on the ride. We'd booked the restaurant in advance for 17:15 and it was nice and relaxed and during the day we eat in the park at the smokehouse and all I can say is wow. It was delicious. A great stay and the only disappointment is that we live 4 hours away. Can't wait for our next visit. Collapse
Usually a good place to stay if you plan accordingly.

It's about 2 years since I last reviewed the Azteca hotel - I believe I rated it average and suggested it was expensive for what you get. However, there's no denying the fact that my kids always love these resort hotels so we've been a few times since my last review. I prefer the Azteca hotel to the Safari one - the themed rooms are nice and obviously quite modern - the Safari accommodation has disappointed me a few times now. Anyway, our last stay was in a monkey wanyama view room on the third floor. The room was as expected and the view of Wanyama reserve okay. As mentioned in the title, to get the best experience here you need to plan accordingly. I should add that we rarely stay as part of the theme park package so we don't have to factor that into our plans. These would be my tips for making the most of a B & B stay: 1. You can book a table in the Temple restaurant once you arrive at the hotel. It's probably easier to do it (and you get more choice) as soon as you've booked your stay. You can do this via the 'bookatable' website or app. 2. Eat dinner early and breakfast late. Obvious really, and it may not work if you are trying to access the theme park up to early evening or first thing in the morning. However, dinner at the Temple is far more relaxed if you book around 5.15 to 5.45pm and breakfast from 9.30 am. However, check out is at 10am so pack you bags etc before you head to breakfast so you are ready to go straight after. 3. Avoid the pool area. Crowded, not particularly warm, generally overrated (in my opinion). If you do want to access it, the last time we did we called the health club and booked our slot early on the morning we were due to arrive. Unless things have changed recently, don't expect to check in and book a slot in the pool for that day 4.The Wanyama reserve and outdoor play area opens for hotel guests after the theme park closes for the day. Except over the darker winter months. This is a great way to spent the evening, especially if you get your meal out of the way early. I would avoid the evening entertainment over in the safari hotel meeting/conference room. I've popped in here a couple of times with my kids and it was remarkably dull. Overall, if you are happy with the price, book a nice room, and plan your stay with near military precision you will probably enjoy yourself and your kids will just enjoy it anyway. Collapse
