I wanted to do something different for the family this Easter, so we decided to surprise the kids with a trip to Chessington world of adventures. Due to health reasons and distance I booked in at the safari hotel on the resort. When we got to check in everyone at the desk were very helpful, we arrived quite early so didn't expect our room to be ready. To our surprise it was, and further more we had been upgraded to the Aztec hotel. We arrived to our bedroom ( wheelchair friendly ) and on first impressions we felt quite pleased. The children had a bunk bed along with reading lights and a tv in the wall for them, we had two single beds pushed together to make one super king size bed, but with separate blankets. Our view, if you didn't look directly down, was of the fields where zebra, giraffes and buffalo's roamed. I believe they were part of the zufari ride in the grounds. Bathroom was very spacious with more than enough room to manoeuvre my wheelchair. Unfortunately though, the shower was not a walk in wet room like I was led to believe. ( lucky I was staying one night ). As we were hungry we went for some food. ( Read review in restaurant part ). All tired out from a day of travel, fun, and excitement we went to settle down for the night. To start off our mattresses were like slabs of concrete, don't get me wrong, I have slept on hard mattresses before but these were solid. Secondly came the noise from the kitchen bellow. Directly underneath our great view was the bins and back entrance to the kitchens. They were quite loud. Finally you manage to get peace and quiet at about 1am. I finally doze off to the sound of some of the resort's animals, which was quite soothing for me. Then my son wakes up a couple of hours later, he too finds the bed uncomfortable and then wakes his sister. Eventually we all drop off again only to be woken up by someone being very inconsiderate at approximately 5 in the morning. All in all, very expensive stay for poor quality of sleep. The staff are great and the little touches to the room are so good for the kids, but if it's comfort you want at bed time, book the premier inn around the corner. Collapse

Good points Nice family rooms and a hotel that works for / adults and 3 kids Bad points Queues Cost (for anything especially food) Fast pass system Staff on some rides very unorganised (ZUFARI in our case) Reception (just an unreal experience we had but probably a one off) Evening entertainment Overall the kids did have a nice time despite the issues. We went a relatively quiet week which meant we could get on most rides in 2 days. Collapse
Good fun for the kids

We spent a couple of nights here, with two days entry to the theme park also. Check-in was easy enough, and our bags were brought to our room while we headed straight into the park, which was a nice touch. The hotel room was really comfortable, and the kids loved the Aztec-themed murals and decor in the room. Some nice touches in the room also; gift bag for the kids, a fun puzzle to unlock the room safe which had another couple of gifts inside for the kids. The beds were comfortable and the room, including bathroom, was clean. The Rangers kids club was decent, games and dancing in the evening for the kids, while the adults can chill and watch for a bit with a drink. The gym was decent; kids loved the splash pool. The buffet restaurant was better value for money than the a la Carte restaurant. The salmon in the buffet restaurant was surprisingly very nice. Breakfast was ok, nothing to write home about. Overall it's a good way to visit the park as you don't need to rush around (if you're staying for a couple of nights, like we did). You get an extra hour access in the park also before they open to the general public. It's a nice stay for families, especially young children. Collapse
Mixed - great facilities but inexperienced staff.

This review has been tricky to write as we had a lovely experience overall staying in the Chessington complex however there are some bits that make it far from perfect. We took the opportunity as Merlin passholders to book a 2 night bed and breakfast deal on the last weekend in March. This entitled us to gain early access to a few rides in the park from 9am. Firstly the positives. -Hotel is very nice and both the Safari and the Azteca are bolted on to each other so it feels like you are staying in one big hotel rather than two separate ones. -Family room was lovely and spacious, with a jungle theme and a view overlooking the animal park. Room big enough for our young children to go to sleep without being distracted/excited about going to sleep in the same room as us. -Facilities good - two restaurants (one in each hotel), choice of eat as much as you like buffet in the Azteca or traditional restaurant in the Safari, both with decent enough food (although slightly overpriced). Excellent swimming pool with perfect childs area, with water features, slide and no deeper than about a foot throughout. -Ideal location - seperate entrance to the park that opens at 9am. We managed to go on the Gruffalo ride (with no queue) and the Vampire three times before the 10am general public stampede. Not so great was the following..... -The staff were not very organised or great at passing on information. As Merlin pass holders we were entitled to a 20% discount at dinner, the bar and in the park from every purchase. As we had not stayed at the hotel before we weren't aware of this so bought drinks and the first nights meal without getting this discount. The staff who served us also did not ask us or check. It was only when i noticed an A4 sign at the bar that i realised this. Surely part of every staff members training should be to ensure that the people who spend a lot of money on Merlin passes get the full benefit of them. -The lack of clear communication also meant that we thought that there was only one restaurant to get breakfast in (Safari) which was overcrowded and had large queues. Had we been told or realised that the Azteca was open for breakfast we would have used that instead - only twigged this ourselves on the morning we were leaving!. - The early entrance was a bit of a free for all with the gates opening and lots of people rushing through before having tickets/passes checked. There was no organisation of queues, just a mob waiting to rush through to the rides. Again this needs better management with more experienced staff. So overall - a good experience with some minor niggles, that all come back to having a better calibre of more experienced staff. The facilities are great but for the price that you pay I would expect better service. Collapse

Have been to stay once before and loved it so decided to take my mum. We were booked into the safari hotel but were upgraded to azteca hotel. Because it was out of season the theme park was closed so we had a day and stay in the zoo. Our hotel room was good fun, we even had to Solve puzzles to unlock the safe (we couldn't do it) I booked my mum a giraffe experience which she loved. We had an amazing meal in the evening (we paid for) and a huge breakfast in the morning (included in stay) the staff were amazing, the hotel was incredible. We went swimming in the afternoon and my mum had some time in the steam room. Spent the next day wondering round the zoo. Didn't see as many animals as it was quite chilly but still had a great day and can't wait to book our next stay in October. Collapse
