Although we had reserved a small room with a double bed, we were upgraded to a large, well-appointed king with electric fireplace. The hotel, though older, appeared to have been renovated recently. Spotless public areas and rooms were adorned with impressive moldings and some marble floors. The hotel has four levels, one below grade, and no elevators, but staff are available to carry your bags and valet park your car ($27 CA). The nearest metro stop was only a few blocks away. This clean and efficient system can get you anywhere you need to go in the city. Since the hotel is located on busy Rue Sherbrooke, noise from the street is noticeable. The free continental breakfast offered breads, bagels, croissants cereal, hard boiled eggs, fruit, and the usual beverages. It was more than adequate. All the staff in this hotel were very friendly and accommodating. The only downside was the air conditioning, which didn't appear to be controllable at the room level. The staff was able to do something to the ducts in an attempt to reduce the cold air. Collapse

All of the staff were friendly and eager to help (especially the receptionists and there was always somebody ready to help with suitcases and bags) and if I was only judging this hotel on the staff I would have given it a higher rating, however due to the issues I encountered I have had to judge it accordingly. 1. Our room was very cold when we arrived and the corridors were baltic. We also had to endure a very annoying noise coming from the vent outside our bedroom. We spoke to the lady on reception and both these issues were resolved and initially we were impressed with the speed of which our concerns were dealt with. However during the third night of our stay the vent was switched back on and when I say I got no sleep at all because of the noise, I mean I got no sleep at all - tried everything earplugs, pillow over my head and plugging in my headphones and watching a DVD - nothing blocked out the noise. In the morning I spoke to the lady on reception again and she said she would mention this to maintenance again. This is the main reason I have given this hotel an average rating as when I am away I expect to be able to sleep and given I had raised this issue on the day I checked in, I feel that the issue should have been resolved then. 2. Cleanliness - our room was basically clean, however some areas had clearly not been looked at prior to our arrival. The plughole in the shower was covered in limescale, in the light above the shower there were three dead flies (assuming it was flies, could have been something else) and there was a huge amount of fluff in the fan above the shower. 3. Breakfast is basic, but it does the job. On the second breakfast of our stay we were told that the breakfast room in the hotel was unavailable and we were sent in the rain to the hotel across the road. The breakfast there was even more basic and the fruit definitely did not taste fresh. When we had finished our breakfast and got back to our hotel we discovered that the breakfast room was now open. So, not clear what had changed. 4. There is no mirror above the dressing room table which is not helpful when you are trying to do your hair and make-up. The mirror in the room is on the back of the wardrobe door - this is just not practical. 5. The view from our window was of an alley which had a lot of graffiti, the spray cans were even lying on the ground. Accept that this is not the fault of the hotel, but it really does not give a good impression of the area. 6. Aspects of this hotel are dated and worn - especially the carpets in the hallway. If you're looking for something other than a chain hotel -- something with its own character and charm, Chateau Versailles may be a good choice. The hotel is an older building in the style of many apartment buildings in Montreal, with steps to climb at the front door. Our room was beautiful and clean, and breakfast was good. Location is good, with many interesting restaurants on Rue St. Catherine and nearby streets within easy walking distance. Be careful not to part on the street on nights when street cleaning is scheduled, or you'll get a ticket. Collapse

Very quaint, old-fashioned hotel right on the street. A few blocks from a lot of restaurants and shops. Right down the street the Museum of Fine Arts. No elevators. Only 3 floors. Valet parking only and it's $27CAN/night. Continental breakfast was good. Room was very small, not even a Queen bed though it was called a Queen. Decor is old. Price was good. Funnily enough pets allows for an additional fee. Lots of one-way streets going the wrong way so very hard to be facing the right way to pull up in front for valet. Collapse

Booked a standard queen bed room and got upgraded to a fire place room upon arrival. Room was a nice size with plenty of room and looked out across the street, which is quite pleasing. Continental breakfast buffet is included and fairly straight forward, no hot food items. Hotel is quite close to the local subway stop and Mont Royal can be walked to from the Hotel. Collapse
