This is a nice clean hotel. The lounge and restaurant are pricey but not too expensive for a hotel, close to restaurants and the new Arena. There is a Municipal golf course fairly close by. I would come back.

First impressions of the hotel were pleasant, the desk clerk that checked me in was very nice and professional, the lobby looks very nice, and check in was smooth (even allowing me in early). Upon entry to the room, I noticed that it was dated and the furniture was very worn out (smudges/scratches on the headboard, discoloured tiles in the bathroom, and a dirty/scratched table). I had brought some food with me for breakfasts and such but was surprised to find out that there was no mini-fridge even though there was a space for one and other rooms had them. I ended up having to get rid of most of my food. Additionally, the lock on my door did not work and I had to rely on the chain only. As I had no food, I ended up ordering room service for dinner. I ordered fish and chips and was told it would be 20 minutes, they later called and said they had no tartar sauce and were trying to make a substitution, ok fine, but then the food took over an hour to arrive. When it arrived the fish was cold and the chips were cold and soggy. Including a small dessert the meal cost over $40.00. At night the noise is exceptionally loud, the elevator is in the middle of the building and makes quite a racket. It is very easy to hear between rooms and there is a lot of hallway noise from doors closing and people talking. Another downside is if you intend to stay here be prepared to pay an additional $21.00 per night for parking in the building's own parkade - this was not disclosed when I booked. Internet was choppy and as I was there on business, it was extremely frustrating to be without a connection for periods of 5-10 minutes throughout the stay. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and a variety of pillows are provided. As well, the shower pressure is something to rave about. Having travelled to many places this is the best shower I have ever come across at a hotel (downside, keep the door closed as there is no fan and may set the smoke detector off, what?!). I also loved the shampoo and lotion brand they had available. The hotel is also close to pretty much everything. It is within walking distance to many trendy restaurants as well as a theatre, Roger's Place, and the river valley. Also be mindful that this area has a high homeless population, I do not know much about Edmonton and if it just the area the hotel is in or a commonality throughout downtown. We were not overly bothered but came across prescription drugs and other narcotics on the street (be especially mindful if you are with children or pets - just in case). Collapse

The best I can say is that the staff were quite nice and helpful. That said, I've stayed in many hotels in downtown Edmonton, on business and while visiting friends, and Chateau Lacombe was the worst by a country mile. To say the hotel is overrated, outdated, and totally overpriced is an understatement. To give it one star, is generous (again, the nice staff deserve a mention). To start, the bathroom was disgusting. The tub was discoloured with moldy tiles. It was chipped and had been re-enameled at some point.... clearly, over a decade or more ago. The ceiling above the tub was peeling. There was no fan in the bathroom and a sign indicated that if the door was not closed while showering, the fire alarm would go off. Totally second rate, flea-bag motel style. There was no fridge or microwave in the unit and no functioning ice machine on our floor. In addition, the TV was ancient, difficult to use, and would randomly turn off. The remote control that was glazed with filth and grime. We had to sanitize it with alcohol swabs and still thought it might be contagious. I went to the gym for a workout and every single weight machine was broken. In addition, the temperature in the fitness center was extremely hot, close to 30 Celsius - not conducive to a comfortable workout. There was grafitti in the elevator coming up from the parkade. However, given that the wallpaper was peeling, that's at least an easy fix. Last, we were interrupted by noise right outside the door. We noticed that someone had slipped a flyer for their restaurant under our door. In other words, Chateau Lacombe either lacks the security to shield guests from unwanted solicitations (the elevators do not require a key card) or they partner with restaurants to harass guests. Listen, I've traveled the world and stayed in worse places but I've never paid a premium to do so. I paid over $50 a night more than I would have at other reasonable and decent downtown Edmonton hotels where I've stayed comfortably in the past. Chateau Lacombe is unfathomably overrated. You will pay less and be happier virtually anywhere else. Collapse

My husband and I planned a last minute overnight with tickets to the Oilers in the playoffs. I called and booked a room the same day as our stay, and my expectations were far exceeded. We were on a business class floor, in reading other reviews I understand not all of the hotel has been renovated as recently as our area. Firstly, the hotel was very accessible from downtown driving and we loved the underground parking at a rate included in our room price. We were welcomed by friendly and efficient staff and invited to a complimentary business cocktail hour that we unfortunately didn't have time to attend. Our room was clean and quiet. Great mini bar area when fridge and wine glasses etc. Complimentary bottled water was a nice touch. We walked to Rogers place which is only minutes away, leaving our vehicle parked at the hotel. Upon our late night return to the hotel, staff greeted us and our overnight stay was lovely. The bed was very comfortable and the guest room and bathroom were immaculate. The morning continental breakfast left a bit to be desired. Lovely cheese and selection of sweet pastries, but would have liked to see some healthier morning options like fruit or oatmeal. Price was very reasonable for downtown and we were very satisfied with the service and value. Overall a wonderful experience and we would recommend for couples or business travel to the Edmonton downtown core. Collapse
