The Centerhotel Thingholt was in a great location, right in the centre of town. The hotel had all the amenities we needed and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had no problem with the language barrier, which was great as our Icelandic was non-existent and it's not the easiest of languages to pick up! Whilst we were there we did a fantastic Golden Circle Tour. The Blue Lagoon was also a great experience, it does get busy, so an earlier booking is recommended, we booked in at 10am and the changing rooms were quiet; however when it came to coming out at 12ish there were queues for the showers. Sadly we never got to do the Northern Lights as the tour got cancelled both nights due to the weather conditions, I would recommend that you book with a reputable company (like we did) so that if the weather is not great the company will cancel and refund your money. The restaurants in Reykjavik were incredible and some of the best food we've eaten was here, but don't expect anything to come cheap out there, £7 for a portion of chips, £8 for a small beer and around £15 for a glass of wine. We had a very memorable trip and Iceland's beauty is something to behold and treasure. Collapse

My wife and I stayed at Centerhotel Thingholt August 5-10. The hotel itself is very nice and well kept. All of the furnishings were modern and clean looking. Our interaction with the staff was limited to check in, check out, and when we walked in and our of the building, but they were always pleasant and made breakfast recommendations the day we arrived. We arrived early (8am or so) and check it wasn't until 2PM. We were quite exhausted after our flight from New York and wanted to do an early check in, but the room wasn't available until 2PM. This was no fault of the hotels as the previous guests in our room checked out late, but it is something to be aware of. We reserved the loft suite, which although is quite nice, is lacking in some functionality. Storage is limited, only 2 small drawers and a small closet to hang some items in. For the most part my wife and I lived out of our suit cases for the week. This could be a common theme for European hotels but coming from the United States we are used to a bit more space to store items. Again not a big issue. The other functionality issue we encountered was in the bathroom, specifically the shower. The threshold between the shower stall and toilet area is only a few centimeters high. Despite our best efforts, we found the water to flood out into the rest of the bathroom...and I mean a lot of water! After the first day I decided to build a barrier with our used towels, which kept the water in the shower stall. The hotel was very good about providing new towels to us every day, despite the fact that we left out "Do Not Disturb" sign all week. As for location, you cannot get any better. You are only steps away from the main strip of downtown Reykjavik. Everything you need or want is just minutes away on foot. Bus stop #6, which is where you would be picked up for most tours, is about 1 minute away. When checking reviews prior to our stay, some people complained of street noise. We did not find anything off-putting, in fact we kept the window open the entire time. The only bit of noise we did encounter was the the building next to us. We had the last room before the end of the building, and the building connected to us must have had some sort of construction going on inside, as there was a bit of banging or hammering going on one or two days. Overall it was a very pleasant stay. If you're looking for a nicely appointed hotel in the heart of the city, this is your place! Collapse

It was such a great hotel. The staff was so helpful and nice. The rooms were great. That breakfast was included was such a plus because Iceland is sooooo expensive. The room was very nice and the beds were really comfortable. Highly recommend.

Absolutely loved the staff who bent over backward to try to make everything right. Always friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is great and the pricing (for Iceland) was reasonable. The fitness center had two stationary bikes and weights. That's it. Not what we're accustomed to. There is one wing of the hotel that sits right above a nightclub and the noise was pretty bad. Especially considering that we were there in the summer and it got pretty warm at night and these folks are not acquainted with the idea of air conditioning. Further, every room has one tiny little window that opens about 4 inches (10 cm for you metric folks) and you have to keep it open if they have unusually hot weather, which we did. In their defense, this hotel did provide electric fans in the rooms, which were helpful. Not every hotel in Iceland does. As for value, everything in Iceland is outrageously expensive, so relatively speaking, this was a pretty good value by their standards. Just not by US standards. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were nicely appointed. Collapse
