So the positive is that the bungalows are cheap, reasonably clean and well equipped if you don't need more than two burners on the cooker. But that's about it. Negatives: Mattress incredibly uncomfortable Bathroom really not clean enough Bits of black mould on bedroom ceiling Bedroom really cold in March Tiny living/ kitchen area Security gates often don't work so people have broken the fencing and anyone can come in Pool not heated so unusable even in the middle of March We were self-catering but the one breakfast we bought was so disgusting it was barely edible - the tinned plummed tomatoes hadn't been heated up, the friend eggs swam in grease, the bacon was 90% fat not meat and so on. The arrangement of the bungalows meant many of them only got sun for a couple of hours in the morning then all in shade. No sun loungers by the bungalows The area: The nearest supermarket is a few minutes walk away and there are a bunch of pubs there too - everything seems to endlessly play football and cook British food. That might be a plus for some travellers, a negative for others. We found nowhere near there we wanted to spend any time. The town itself is a good 30 minutes walk away, and the little road train is at best infrequent. Taxis are only about €4 however. Most of the town is boring, football pubs again, everything for english food, and found only one actually Canarian restaurant. Shops are expensive and full of the same trash, the market is just mass produced rip offs of designer stuff (and bad ones at that) The beach looks very nice, it was nearly finished when we were there and partly open. Once you get to the harbour it is *much* nicer, mainly because much of it belongs to the one decent hotel down there. There are a coupole of nice restaurants and ice cream places, and some excursions too. But that's maybe 200 yards of nice stuff in a sea of pretty grim and awful. I wouldn't go back to the resort or the town, it's too much like Slough by the Sea as far as I can tell Collapse

I booked 9 nights in this accommodation. Lets just say it is not good and i was back in the UK 3 days later.............................. Firstly, i had emailed them previoulsy to ensure that i was near a good wifi system due to work comittments. Secondly, when i arrived my room wasnt ready - i had been on the go since 2am and this was 11.30am. I had a wait of 2 hours before i could get booked in.. The rooms are dated, dull and dingy, however, everything worked. I.e. kettle, toaster cooker etc. The baths are corroded both inside and on the outside- picture attached - although there was hot water and It was clean enough. Everything except the wifi worked and this is what really annoyed me. Please dont go here if you require a wi fi connection. In this era this is a must and this place needs to get into the 21st century and realise customers wont ask or expect less. There is no english TV either, hence if the weather is bad its not very good. I would certainly not recommend going these apartments Collapse
Think carefully before booking awful

Having just returned from this resort I would definitely not recommend it unless you book a pool view apartment as those are the only ones they seem to look after! The patio areas outside the apartments are overgrown and messy! The 1st room we were given was awful filthy dirty and unsafe the smoke alarm was burnt out the bath filthy and shower not working the fridge was filthy not cleaned in a long time! The wires from the lamps on the wall had the wires hanging out of them and the TV wire was unsafe! We were given keys to another room same state so refused then was given keys to 2 more apartments to view both of which had occupants very embarrassing walking into them and someone in there! 1 occupant had just got out the shower! We accepted the 5th room as was totally fed up by then however if it's views you want then don't bother as there is so many apartments wedged in the only view you get is of the adjacent apartment and a ugly boiler! On a plus side the main town is only a ten minute walk and very nice! Would not recommend or return ever! Collapse

Ok, I'm going to be really honest here. Reading the negative reviews i sat and thought- "it can't be that bad- some people expect the earth for gods sake!!" but then we went! Reading the positive reviews I really wonder if we stayed at the same place. We got back on Sunday after a week at the Castillo Beach. Our holiday was lovely but we won't be staying at the resort again. It's fair to say that the pictures on the website are massively out of date probably by about 25 years, the check in process is extremely disorganised and the receptionist was very rude and very uncooperative. We are very much of the ethos that you get what you pay for- you can't buy a Mini and expect a Rolls Royce but although we didn't expect the Ritz- I don't think we are unreasonable for expecting that the appliances are not only in good working order but also clean. I really don't care how old something is, it doesn't need to be ultra modern as long as it still serves its intended purpose and is sanitary. Having already had my nose put out of joint that our room still wasn't ready an hour and a half after arriving, having been on the go since 2.30 am with a two year old ( these things happen right?)- we were told that the previous occupants had not vacated our room and we had to wait- but that it's not their fault. Nice. When we pointed out that the check out is 11:00 am and it is now 13:15pm-they really couldn't have cared less. They told us to wait in the bar round the corner until our room was ready- but no complimentary drinks or snacks by way of apology?( not the end of the world granted- but would have thawed the ice a little) We get to the room and are overcome by the pungent smell of very cheap disinfectant. Now I have to be fair and say from first impression the general cleanliness of the apartment was fair, clean floors, kitchen area and bathroom ( apart thick black dust at back of toilet systern) were all tidy---very, very old--- but tidy. Stifling though!- there is no way that room had been aired in a month of Sundays! Ah the beds- erm.. different? Me and my fiance did not sleep well the entire time we were there, they were in dire need of updating- you could literally see the springs through the sheets ( old sheets with holes in them), and every time you moved they popped! not comfortable in the slightest. The bed that our son was sleeping on, I think its fair to say has been there since Jesus was a kid. Old, musty and Bowed in the middle where it has obviously taken a lot of weight over the years, cushion covers old, worn, tatty and faded. Appliances, Never used the microwave- we didn't need it, however it was on this really weird breakfast bar that was about as much use as a chocolate fireguard! The kettle was absolutely caked thick with Limescale- I realise that the water is harder over there but still!- this would really have made us poorly! I took it back up to reception and asked if we could move to another room as we weren't happy. She was very very unhelpful, disinterested and frankly confrontational. A couple who had just left their room said that they were shocked by the condition of ours and suggested we ask for theirs, as it had been quite pleasant, nothing fancy- but clean tidy and comfortable- She wouldn't do it! told us the guests for that room would be arriving shortly. I pointed out that not an hour ago she told me I had to wait because the guests hadn't left! She said that the room I wanted had been ' specially reserved' At which point i called her a liar. 1 because I have never heard of anybody actually reserving a certain room and 2. i can't for the life of me think of anybody stupid enough to return!! She would not move us- even though throughout the week, despite her claiming they were fully booked--in March??-- there were bungalows laid dormant everywhere. The cupboard doors were all warped and cracked and the fridge was a phenomenon! Rusty, broken door, running very hot- but full of ice in the top because it had literally not been defrosted since 1852. The cleaning ladies looked horrified when I brought it to their attention- but lets be right- if they are as thorough as you would hope- it would never have got to that stage?? The shower head was cracked and worn and sprayed in all directions because the seal around it was broken. It also couldn't be manipulated into position, so you literally ( with your nose touching the tiles) had to stand as far underneath it as you could get. I have to say that when the smell of disinfectant had gone, there was a scent of urine that just would not leave. Now maintenance were down within half an hour, with a brand (newer) fridge- it worked- which was fine, a Fan- because we had booked a room with Air conditioning and there is none. They swore blind that none of their rooms have air con- even though the couple who offered us their room stood and told them that theirs had it!, A clean kettle and some sheets for our son's bed- because there were none. They also sent us a bottle of Cava. In itself an apologetic gesture and it was appreciated, but i'm afraid the damage had already been done in terms of our impression of the place. It certainly hasn't spoiled things for us, as we were down in the town or on the beach for the most part ( a lovely place )- and it is as they say - a place to lay your head. I have paid less and stayed in nicer though. We also bumped into people who had paid for all inclusive and had eaten out every night because the food was poor. We never ate there so in fairness, I can't comment. I think a lot of the time it comes down to what you are realistically prepared to accept. (Just FYI- try the Wild West and le Bodeguitas in the town- superb!!) We tried to use one of the pools on the park- the nicest one- and were told we couldn't as it was all inclusive members only, The pool in our side had tiles falling off the sides and was scruffy. It isn't five minutes from the beach unless you handglide! Avoid the train back and forth to the front- it actually says free transport on it but they charge silly money. The taxis are quicker and actually decent value. We just wanted a week away together with our son for my birthday- we had a lovely time, but the Castillo disappointed us massively. Bobby Basic is one thing, but tired and knackered is another- it's your money, it's up to you but we certainly won't be back. Collapse
Basic, no frills, clean but uncomfortable and not suitable for folks with mobility problems.

We stayed here at the end of February for 4 nights. That was long enough. The staff were ok, although the barmaid at the Pool bar was a bit brusque. Food was average, fairly good choices but chips every day, and not many healthy options. We went all-inclusive. It wasn't worth it really. I am disabled and we didn't realise when we booked that it is a long walk for someone with mobility issues, to get from apartment to restaurant, and then back to the pool nearest the apartment. Some youngsters tried to break into our apartment on our first night - management seemed pretty unconcerned about this, but it meant we got no sleep after that. The apartment was well kitted out - and we did get some food and water from the nearest supermarket as, surprisingly, there was no bottled water provided or 'welcome' pack. The apartment itself was very spacious for just the 2 of us, with 2 double bedrooms (beds hard as rock) and 2 bathrooms. Nice tidy kitchen/lounge/diner. All spick and span so no complaints there. We spent our days beside the pool - all inclusive snacks were not served at the pool bar closest to our apartment and even those on offer were all chips, burgers and chicken nugget type things - so, fine if you don't mind piling on the pounds whilst you're away... but... I did mind., so we bought some fresh fruit and bottled water instead. Their local 'diet coke' and included alcohol wasn't pleasant and we ended up going to a bar instead for 2 of the evenings. All in all, it's ok for what it is - a cheap place with basic no frills facilities in the sunshine. Cannot fault the cleanliness of the restaurant and the staff in there were very friendly. Food was hot but not very exciting - but considering they have to cater to so many tastes, it was pretty good overall. Best bit was laying by the pool - couldn't go in as it wasn't heated and was freezing cold. If I were able-bodied and younger with a young family - it would be a good, basic, self-catering sunshine option. I would not choose to go there again but am sure there are many who would love it.
