Having got a bargain flight out to Fuerteventura we wanted an inexpensive base for the week. Have previously stayed in Caleta but in all inclusive hotels and this time we just wanted self catering. Booked a superior 'apartment' and, having read reviews, we were dying to see what we got as it appeared to be a bit of a lottery. We arrived at Reception with one other couple. One member of staff was on duty and we had a bit of a wait as there were some people being served already. Actual check in was fairly swift. We hired a safe (€14 pw plus €5 refundable deposit) and were given a map and explanation of how to get to the bungalow. Good directions given and we found it easily in the dark. We we were in the Moon part ... number 43 with a pool view. Gorgeous outlook, really pleased. The bungalow was well equipped ... microwave/full oven/kettle/toaster/iron & ironing board. No hairdryer (though I'd seen some photos of them). Fortunately decided to take mine just in case. Plenty of bedroom storage for two. Ceiling fans in the bedroom/living room. No air con. There was a small tv for which you have to get the remote from Reception (didn't bother) and a radio which we made good use of. The kitchen seemed to be well equipped with utensils, etc. and there was a tea towel provided. Overall it was decent enough ... just a few bits where paintwork needed touching up, particularly the bathroom ceiling which had some black damp marks. Also a bit of water damage to the bottom of the bathroom basin unit. The bungalow was clean on arrival and no creepy crawly visitors sighted during our stay. Beds: We'd asked for a double and on first sight it looked like we had one. It was two single beds pushed together which wasn't a problem. Then we got in. It was like being on a boat. I was moving from side to side and actually thought the bed legs were coming off. But it was the mattress kind of swaying. This meant a big gap developed between the mattresses ... not the beds, just the mattresses. I had the most awful night's sleep and next day I paid for it in my back and shoulder/arm. I could hardly move my arm it was so painful. Out of desperation we took the cover off the bed settee and put that on top. It wasn't ideal; it wasn't as wide as the two beds, but it did mean I could sleep and not do more damage to myself. Cleaning: In our week the kitchen bin was emptied once (about two days in); we didn't get fresh towels when we should have (after three days) so had to ask for some in the end; we never got fresh sheets (after five days). Probably because of how we had made up the bed, but they could have just left fresh linen. One day the cleaner had been in and left the bathroom window wide open. Not happy about that. I don't like it open because of crawlies getting in but also it was easy for someone to get into the bungalow. Ours backed onto a road with a shallow embankment leading down so was easily accessible. To add insult to injury we couldn't see that the cleaner had done anything else. Reception: We had a few dealings with them and the various staff were always efficient and pleasant - we got the bus time table from them; requested an outside drying rack as ours was missing (delivered next day); requested towel change (delivered next day). Wifi (unless in Lake premium) is available in Reception but is hit and miss ... as it is all over the resort. There are limited places to sit around there whilst accessing the wifi. Chipmunk Hill: Not that bad. It levels out in places. Walked down easily (path at side of Reception) and walked up a few times. Taxi up from town averaged €2.80. The little train comes up and down between c. 10:30am and early evening at €2 pp. We used the place as a base and were out all day so can't comment on the other areas or facilities. It met what we were looking for at the price we paid so the rating is based on that. Not sure if I'd stay again only because of the beds and potentially being stuck in one of the ropier bungalows I've seen reviewed. Collapse

Upon arrival we were allocated our "superior bungalow", after an uphill hike we evetually found it. We didn't bother to unpack as the apartment was very damp and the smell was awful. We had booked all inclusive, big mistake! The bungalow we had been allocated was at the farthest end of the complex known as Moon. Here, there are no amenities available for all inclusive holiday makers. You had to cross the road to a different section known as" Lake", where we could then BUY drinks and snacks as this section was not part of our all inclusive holiday. The amenities for "all inclusive holidays" was a 10 minute walk to the ONLY restaurant or bar available within our "all inclusive" package. I immediately returned to reception and during a heated exchange being told the entire complex was fully booked we were moved the next morning a lot closer to the amenities available for our "all inclusive holiday". The second bungalow was clean and tidy but very damp and smelled terrible, all our clothes became damp and smelly just like the beds! But at least we were an awful lot closer to the restaurant. Now onto the restaurant, the food was very basic although I must praise the chef who was amazed us all with their recycling techniques. At this point I feel it only fair to enlighten you on the recyling techniques used. The left overs from breakfast such as pressed pork resembling ham was then chopped up and served within a cold pasta dish at lunchtime, the sausages, bacon etc were also recycled into some sort of concoction that I can't really give a name to, this was served with whatever the chef had available to make some sort of dish usually brussel sprouts. I've never seen brussel sprouts served so many different ways. This was then recycled again along with any left over veg and served as soup at the evening meal. Cold rice pudding served at lunch, (what you can do with this is unbelievable), this was then blended down and served as mousse at the evening meal albeit now the colour had changed to pink, or even yellow. How did they do that? You've guessed it, food colouring, it still tasted like rice pudding. If you didn't fancy the food served in the restaurant the snack bar is situated close by and opened for 1 hr twice a day, if you enjoy the two things available for "all inclusive" guests which were smart price hamburgers or chips you will be fine as at least this was cooked fresh, 1 encounter of this food was enough, however other food was available on the menu such as chicken nuggets, but alas you have to pay as again this delight was not included in our all inclusive package. We were continually informed we could drink beer, wine and spirits etc from 08.00 till 23.00 if you chose to! Personally we preferred to partake the offerings at the bar after our evening meal and not at 0.800. Oops hang on a minute my mistake, the bar closes at 22.30 pm for all inclusive customers even though the times displayed clearly say 23.00. Guess what though, if you pay for drinks they will serve you until 23.00. Icecreams etc are also available from within the bar area but not for all inclusive guests, we had to pay. There are several pools within the complex, however if you want to be near the restaurant, bar or snack bar this particular pool is in need of a complete overhaul. I chanced a swim once but could not stand the icy cold water as it was unheated, coupled with the peeling paint, botched up tiles and overall very poor state it did not resemble in any way shape or form the pool that was shown in the pictures when booking my "all inclusive" holiday. The pool featured in the pictures was there, just a short walk across the road to different area of the complex, away from the ONLY "all inclusive" facilities available to us. Unfortunately if you were carrying any form of drink from the "all inclusive bar" there wasn't lot left as most was spilled before you arrived back at your sunbed. There was no entertainment but none was advertised so cannot complain on that one. If you want entertainment or a drink any later than 22.30 then a 20 minute walk or a taxi into town is always available. On the upside most of the staff were very pleasant and worked very hard, the overall cleanliness of the restaurant, bar etc was good. What a shame everything else was diabolical. Sadly the many negatives encountered outweigh the positive so I would advise anyone who is thinking of all inclusive to avoid this place. I would aslo advise you to take lots of perfume to mask the smell of damp on your clothes! Collapse

Spent six nights here from 11th feb . Stayed in one of the bungalows self catering. They are a good base but not luxury but you get what you paid for it! Appartments are clean, although as mentioned in other reviews smell a little musty!, which upon returning home the smell is on our clothes . However saying that half hour with windows and doors open each morning and a spray of the febreeze and it helps. There is a kitchen with everything you need, oven, hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, iron, ironing board and hairdryer. The shower worked fine, also there is a telly which we used without having to pay for the remote hire. Press a few buttons and its on! Towels were changed once during 6 nights and cleaners in twice. Everyone who works there is very polite and helpful. The site is very quiet and is situated on a hill, but there are cabs if you want one. Nearby there is a supermarket and a few local bars. The main centre for restaurants and bars is about 15 minute walk. Although its on the flightpath the plus side is that the airport is 10 mins in a cab, 12 euros. We would stay here again, good as gold for a cheap holiday. Collapse

We decided for a last minute Winter Sun long weekend and we wanted a quiet place and value for money. Castillo Beach ticked all the boxes. We had a self-catered 1 bedroom bungalow, with a small kitchen and terrace. We never used the kitchen, as the bungalow is well located within walking distance from the main pubs and restaurants of Caleta de Fuste. The beds were confy enough (we would have preferred a double bed instead of two single ones). The lady at reception was really lovely and she confortably spoke English and Italian (I am bilingual). Also because Caleta de Fuste, is located close to the airport and in the middle of the Island, it is the perfect starting point if you want to explore a little bit more of the Canaries. We rented a car and it was the best way to get to know Fuertaventura a little bit better. Coming down to the cons, there was no hairdryer and the towels were really small and not changed everyday. In addition, there was not a lot of hot water in the evening. We think it was due to the fact that the hot water tank, stored on the roof, was serving two appartments and our neightbour were constanlty having bath (the walls are paper-thin), so they consumed all the hot water before our shower in the evening. However, we would definitely come back. Carol & Chris Collapse

Holiday and services was awful from start to finish. Do not use travelate as they conned us we paid for arena beach but they put us in this hellhole. Gave us voucher for arena beach but was fake and twos days before said we must stay here but once we got here (after paying extra cabs) castillo beach told us travelate booked us here from the start. As for the hotel and its service is absolutely appalling! Do not stay here EVER. My bag was taken from the restaurant on Jan 27th and to there advantage they have no cameras. Staff acted suspicious and they was keen to get out and took the bins out as soon as we started looking It was such a stressful experience and made it worse as it was on my birthday but didn't let it ruin my night. I did ask at reception if anyone handed it in but they DID NOT CARE AT ALL they had no compassion as human beings whatsoever cant believe they are front of house and are supposed to represent this hotel. Gayo was lovely and helped my partner look and the next day he gave us the bar address and told us to call the police. I didn't call the police though as was only cash and a bit of makeup and had my phone and passport in my room and that was the most important stuff. Beware of all staff at this place and lock your belongings away in your suitcase..they provide safes at a cost and deposit but is a key so i wouldn't trust it to be honest. Location is alright but recommend staying in corraelo as there is more things to do there. No hairdryer, the rooms get cleaned every other day never gave us clean towels once during our week stay!! Which really aggravated me and my partner and they done the same to my friend who stayed in the bungalow next to us. We stayed in vista which was a really nice part of the resort and was near the hotel reception+restaurant/bar. If you are disabled or struggle with stairs i dont recommend staying here. The rooms are really cold in the winter and only have blankets as covers and smelt a bit damp by the morning. As for the food it was awful DO NOT EAT HERE. My party was 4 people and we all suffered some sort of food poisoning. We thought food was alright but after two days we started suffering from cramps and diarrhoea. Me and my partner did not eat here after 3 of our stay and cramps and diarrhoea appeared at bay after a whole day of not eating here and we went on a night out and was hungover and decided to have breakfast and half way of eating we both was dying to leave to go back to our rooms to go to toilet. After that didn't eat here again. All inclusive is not valid on your last day and they make you cut your wristbands off on your after breakfast.. luckily for us we did not here anyway so did not bother us. Gayo who works in the bar is a credit to this hotel and was helpful and lovely throughout our stay as well as the little Cuban woman but forgot her name! Thank you for all the help you gave me and my friends. Collapse
