Pretty nice spot -- I wish there had been better beach access

I surprised I haven't received a survey from Casa Marina for my stay two weeks ago, so I figured I would leave my comments here. They need to put plastic covers on the bottom of their balcony chairs and tables — and really all the chairs on throughout the hotel. They're so loud, and it's a grating sound. Every morning at 7 a.m. I woke up to my neighbors scraping their chairs on their balcony. It's an easy fix. They should also have a sign on the balconies reminding people that they're "sharing" their balcony with their neighbors. The people next to me had loud conversations out there early in the mornings. The adjoining-room doors also do little to muffle sounds from the next rooms over. (A family member in another room had this issue too.) There should be only one line for the two desks in the lobby. When we were checking in we didn't realize there were two lines and waited for 10-15 minutes to check in at our line, while the other line moved quickly and we would've been at the front in 2-5 minutes. I know other people struggling with this issue throughout our stay. We experienced long waits for food at The Reach and the Casa Marina cafes by the pools/water. Two waits were so long we were given discounts. And I don't think anyone would've noticed how long the waits were had I not gotten up and asked where our food was. Other than that, a very friendly staff. Jen the concierge was very helpful in planning a boating trip and restaurant reservations for us. You can tell I have strong opinions, but there they are. The "beach" access is an artificial reef-ed out beach and a pier with a staircase down to the beach, which was disappointing, but the kids in my family liked the pool. You also have access to the sister resort, The Reach, but no one told us that when we checked. When I asked about decent beach access, one of the towel guys recommended we go to The Reach, which is 5 minutes down the road. Collapse
The service was subpar

It's a nice and pretty property but the service was mediocre at best. For the amount of money people pay to stay here they definitely expect a higher level of service all around. Perhaps it's simply a matter of providing a better training to the employees, so management please take note. Our room was pretty spacious, no complains there. Breakfast buffet was pretty good, although once again some of the staff definitely needs some attitude adjustment. The pools are nice, the grounds are clean. The beach is not very swimming-friendly, but that's pretty much all of Key West beaches. We liked the "campfire", it's a nice spot to hang out after the sunset. I had a massage at the spa (Anna is great!), that was probably the only place where the service was great start to finish. So all in all it's not a bad place to stay, but the level of service makes you question if it's worth it. Collapse

First off, this resort should not be in the 5 star resort category. This was going to be a nice get away before our daughter goes off to college. When I booked our suite, I told the agent we are traveling with a teenager and a friend. When we arrived at the hotel at 3:00 our room wasn't ready, not a big deal so we went and had lunch outside by the pool. The outside grounds are nice, but the actual building looks like it needs structure repair, and paint. We finally get to our room which had a pull out couch for the girls, a small side view of the pool and beach. The problem with this suite set up was the SMALL bathroom was located inside the king bedroom. Not very convenient when traveling with more than 2 people. Also, there were no dressers or any type of furniture to put our clothes in, so I called down to the front desk to question this, and they said they have heard this complaint before. I ended up putting all our clothes on a chair and on top of my suitcase ( I felt like I was at a motel ). The next day was nice, the girls jet skied, and we stayed by the family pool. The attendant wasn't very friendly, and you could tell she really doesn't like her job. The girls went back to the room first to get ready for the evening, and when we went back to the room we heard screaming down the hallway , as it turns out it was coming from our room. There was a bed bug on the pull out couch, and we lifted up the mattress, and it had multiple holes. We complained, and they agreed to move our room. The bellman came to help us move, but didn't come with the keys, so I went to the front desk to get the keys. Now I go to the next building, only to find out our new room is on the 3rd floor , and the only elevator in the building is broken. I come to find out it had been broken for 3 weeks already, and the manager said it would be another week. the layout of this room was much better because the bathroom was separate from the king bedroom. The bad news was that we had lost the small nice view that we had, and now we looked at the street. The WORST part was that we had to walk 3 flights of stairs. NOT WHAT I PAID FOR !!. The expensive rates that this hotel gets is not worth the stay. The front desk manager was not helpful at all. The next day I asked for a different manager , and he gave us a partial credit for 1 night stay. Our last full day we spent touring the island, and when we came back to our room we wanted to shower before dinner. It was 6:30, and I go to take a shower, and there is no water.............we called the front desk, and they apologize there was no notice, but it was not the hotel it was a city issue. The last day when we are checking out, I stopped by the front desk to ask for help with our bags. We went to the room and waited 30 minutes with no one showing up. So, I pick up the phone, only to find out it is dead. I called the front desk from my cell phone only to say , sorry they are working on a new system. At this point, I couldn't wait to get out of this hotel, and head home. Very disappointed in Waldorf Astoria which is supposed to be in the category as one of the finest hotels, anything but..... Ok first the good part...the ocean was where they said it would be, the sun was hot...Jenn the Concierge was wonderful and Josh and fellow beach crew were A+ : Now the bad..we didn't get the room we paid $600 a night for. It was motel 6 quality. Run down (see pics) tiny, tiny bathroom, balcony was just big enough for two chairs. When we complained they told us that WAS the room we paid for and all the rooms had the same size balcony which was patently untrue! ( see pics) after three days they moved us to a ocean front room, much larger, great view but well worn and shabby and the SAME tiny bathroom. Ceiling needed painting badly. Ice machine on that floor was broken but that was ok because the elevator to go to another floor for ice was broken also! In website they made you think that the restaurant Spencer's ( excellent by the way) is in the casa marina. WRONG! Several blocks away, good hike at The Reach. No full service bar inside, only the pool bar if you like that vibe. Other than buffet breakfast ( which we paid for but they kept telling us that we didn't even after we showed them proof, there is no food service at the hotel! There is a RUM bar only that seats seven, hope you like rum! This is NOT a good buy for your money. Collapse

Let me start off by saying the grounds of this hotel are where all the luxury went. A girlfriend and I came to stay at Casa Marina for a long weekend in Key West. Now admittedly we did have the smallest fortune of traveling during one of their worst weather weekends in years, but unfortunately that is why the conditions at this hotel became so unsatisfactory so quickly. For being arguably one of the nicest Hotels in Key West, with most rooms not being less than five or $600 a night we had kind of a poor experience for that price point. When we checked in our first room had severe water damage, The floor was dirty as was the bathtub, and for a hotel that seems to cater to our customers who presumably have to work for a living, there were no workable outlets in the room to plug in laptop chargers that were not either already being used died lamps or electronics or that worked behind heavy furniture that need to be moved in order to access it. How hard is it to put a little plugs in the lamps like every Hilton Garden in the world has? After we moved rooms, which was difficult because when we pick up the phone to call to ask someone to come up and wash the floor really quick, the phone literally pulled out of the wall and did not work, we got into our next room which we were told rents for up to $800-$1000 a night, and it was in much better shape. Same plug problem ..But then our phone proceeded to never work even from the moment we were checked into that room, the TV seem to be possessed, which normally wouldn't be a big deal but after 12 hours of rain we really didn't have a choice of where we were at. Even the pen didn't work that was left in the drawer for guests. The weather cleared up and we were able to salvage 50% of our weekend. This hotel really shines at the pool area. The grounds are magnificent, the pool staff attentive and so so kind and nice. They even handed out frozen towels and free sangria. Sold. But as we came back to our room the evening of the only nice day we had, it was 5 PM and room hadn't even been cleaned. we went to the front desk to express our displeasure, we were greeted with kind of an eye roll. Like I know we paid for this room with points, but we had to spend the money with Hilton in order to even get there in the first place, so you would think that they would be a little bit more willing to help with the multitude of customer service issues we had. We were leaving in the morning so no big deal. We were offered a $75 voucher to eat breakfast at their hotel which we did the next morning. As we sat eating breakfast in the gorgeous weather in the open air restaurant..we were dive bombed by seagulls ( stole bacon right off our plate) , which I understand is not their fault, and also buzzed by several helicopters that seemed to be spraying some sort of substance all over the tops of the palm trees and landed all over our table, our cell phones, and our breakfast. When I went to the front desk to ask what it was that they were possibly spraying ,I was told it was insecticide to keep the mosquitoes away ...with a smile on her face, the front desk person told me this, I really didn't have much to say after that and turned around and walked out. After all this, they offered to refund half a nights stay. Thanks, but if I ran my business is this way and had screwed up this battery, I probably would've made more in an effort to make sure my customer still felt their business was valued. Collapse
