Whilst you couldn't get a better location for the hotel being a stone's throw away from the beach and the hotel being basic enough, B&B, wifi in reception area only, the nail in the coffin for this place was that the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Following a ROBBERY of cash from our room my friends and I were treated by staff as if we were the criminals. The GNR (POLICE) were called at our request who arrived and took the statements from us and the name of the cleaning staff rostered on that day. What disappointed us even more was that there were no enquiries of the hotel into who had access to our room, they just didn't seem to care that someone gained access to our room and had gone through our belongings searching for a quick buck. There was no CCTV available in the corridors to catch the culprit. If you are keen to stay here I would recommended you leave any valuables at home and keep cash on your person. I however will not be back. Collapse

The Carvoeiro Sol Hotel is in an excellent location for the beach, shops, bars and restaurants. Excellent for getting about the town centre. It can however be a little bit noisy in the evenings as the square hosts a variety of entertainment on the beach-side stage. This does however finish at mid-night so it really didn't bother us at all. Whilst the hotel is a little dated, it is clean and tidy, the staff are good and the breakfast was fine. We ate at the pool bar - delicious toasties, and reasonably priced too. We had a family room, despite there being just 2 of us, which meant we had ample space and double the wardrobe space!! I would recommend the sea view rooms which look out over the square and over to the beach. A safe is available for just a 20 euro deposit - excellent idea. A couple of things that we found were that the bed was very firm - we are not used to such a hard mattress and we weren't too comfortable but only probably because we are used to softer mattresses. The other thing was the annoying practice of reserving of sunbeds - which made it difficult some days to get a spot by the pool. The pool area is not too big and space is fairly limited - so to arrive at the pool after breakfast to find towels on sunbeds and no available space was annoying to say the least. The hotel displays signage advising that this is not allowed, but does not enforce the rule. Overall, a great place to stay and would certainly go back. Carvoeiro itself is a lovely place to stay - there are so many restaurants to choose from, lots of bars and a variety of shops. It's a hilly area, which may not be great if you have mobility issues. We stayed here for 10 nights for our first visit to Portugal. The hotel itself is perfectly located close to the beach and all cafes, bar/restaurants and shops. The resort is built over a very steep hillside with the majority of the amenities at the bottom. Although there are other clusters of hotels, restaurants etc higher up, I am pleased I didn't have to walk up and down the steep hills with cobbled and uneven pavements every day in the scorching heat! Every evening until midnight there is entertainment outside the hotel in the main square with either a live singer or DJ playing a mixture of European chart music, UK chart music and party songs. It gets quite loud but the hotel double glazing blocks out the majority of the noise (we were around the back). Possibly a little louder and a little harder to block out the noise at the front if you pay for a sea-view room. Our room was a family room with the pool and a little bar outside (room number 122). The room itself was comfortable and a good size. I'd recommend bringing your own pillow as they are not exactly flat (feel like they are stuffed with small foam cubes so a bit lumpy) and the beds are incredibly firm but got used to it after a couple of nights. I've stayed in better and I've stayed in worse but for the money we were very happy. Housekeeping staff made the beds, changed the towels, cleaned the bathroom and floors daily. We left a little money out and my daughter's tablet computer which were untouched so felt as though we could trust the staff. The only issue we had was the adjoining door to the next room. It was firmly locked however, any noise made in the room next-door, no matter how slight, sounded like the people were in the room. They flushed the toilet and you heard it, they had a conversation and you heard it. The couple in the next room woke us up every evening when they came in gone 12. On the last night, a family with a baby were put in the next room and the baby cried continually. They might as well have just been in the room with us. The hotel were full and we were leaving so there was no point in asking to move though had this been for the whole week I would not have been happy at all. The pool area is small but has sunbeds out with spare sunbeds stored in the entrance to the poolside bathrooms. We didn't use the bathrooms as our room opened out onto the pool area. The pool itself is 1m 20cm deep at the shallower end, so not shallow enough for children to splash around in if they can't swim and much deeper at the other end though my little one just had a rubber-ring and close supervision. The water is very cold however it seems this is the norm. The sea is cold, the water at the Zoomarine pools were cold so no surprise here. The bar is serviced for most of the day although staff do disappear every so often, probably for their lunch break and to tidy or restock. Prices for soft drinks are a touch more expensive than in the local bars/cafes but you get good measures of spirits for similar prices if you are drinking alcohol. There is limited choice though as it is just a small, poolside snack bar. The food was not tried but the toasties looked good. There is a selection of lollies and ice creams. The majority of staff at the hotel are polite and more than helpful. We smiled and greeted staff as we passed by and this possibly encouraged them to be polite in return with a smile and a greeting back. One of the gentleman at the front desk and the gentleman in the dining/breakfast room were both incredibly polite and helpful day after day. When we woke up on the 3rd day of our holiday and the air-conditioning unit was no longer blowing out cold air, one of the gentleman at the front desk assured us he would send someone up to look at it. Within the hour it has been checked and a new unit was ordered. He informed us it would take 2 days to be replaced/fitted and provided us with a large fan. We were happy with his sincere apologies and assurances with fingers crossed. He then informed us that evening that he had managed to arrange for it to be replaced the next day and it was. The new unit then started leaking water but he had it checked again and sorted that day. We were very pleased. The a/c units are small wall-mounted units, fairly quiet with a remote control. Our booking included breakfast. The breakfast was surprisingly good with a good selection of hot and cold foods. Hot foods included toast, hotdog style sausages, hard-boiled eggs, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, beans (although a little harder to bite through than you get in the UK), bacon and mushrooms. The bread items included bread rolls, croissants and a selection of breads. There are 5 cereals to choose from. In the cold section were plain ham, cheese and a selection of cold meats, yogurts, sliced tomatoes, bananas, oranges, apples with the sliced melon/pineapple which alternated each day. To my delight there was HP sauce as well as the usual sauces - made my day! A drinks machine provided juice with or without 'bits' and water. The coffee machine provided tea, coffees and hot chocolate. I personally don't like the milk so really didn't enjoy the hot drinks though that is just me. Our only issue at breakfast was the smell that developed next to the juice machine in the last couple of days. It smelled as though there was stale urine next to the machine. Not pleasant and being typically British we didn't like to complain although probably should have mentioned it. People were happily sitting next to the machine though I'm not sure how. I felt unwell and wouldn't go near it for the last 2 days. Our rating is 4.5 out of 5 but could only give 4 or 5. Overall excellent with just the noise from the next room and a slight smell at the back of the restaurant. Would return if we were guaranteed a room without an adjoining door. Collapse

We had Seaview room which overlooked the square and entertainment for the evening which can be a bit noisy but we didn't mind cos it ended before midnight. The rooms had everything we needed and were very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful and work very hard. Nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this hotel. Collapse

Nice hotel in a perfect location, right on the main square of the town, a few steps from the beach, surrounded by restaurants, cafes and shops. A bit noisy though as there is live music on the square. Clean and spacious room, comfortable bed and pillow. Nice balcony facing the square and the beach. Great staff, highlighting Victor, who is super friendly and helpful. The only negative point was the breakfast, which was really simple, without any pastries or sweet options. Collapse
