The room was small but adequate. The linens were lovely. The beds were a bit stiff. The Carlton Capri is tucked behind its sister hotel down a narrow walkway near the Grand Canal. It is well maintained and has a bit of old world elegance. The breakfast included with our room was in a very lovely setting. There was juice, cereal, croissants, scrambled eggs (they need to be cooked more, in my opinion!), cheese, turkey, salami, and the wonderful Italian coffee. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Collapse

We stayed here for 3 nights. It was superb. We arrived at the hotel very early on the first day, before check-in time, but it was no issue. We were given our hotel room, which was still being cleaned, and told we could leave our luggage. We did and set off to explore. When we returned later, the guy behind the desk, Mateo, was extremely helpful. The concierge took all of our things up to our room which had a large balcony with views over the streets of Venice. It was a beautifully clean room with a king size bed, large bathroom, safe and plenty of cupboard space. The breakfasts consisted of all you could eat cereal, croissants, fruit and most importantly bacon and eggs! The coffee was served with a jug of hot frothed milk- it was lovely! All the staff were so helpful, spoke English fluently and always ready to help. We will stay here again next time we come to Venice, without doubt. Collapse

Location Very central and conveniently situated only a few metres away from the Grand Canal. Tucked down an alleyway behind its sister hotel, The Carlton on the Grand Canal which is directly facing the railway station and Ferrovia waterbus stop close by Piazzella Roma bus station. Check in/out Arrived just after 11:00am and reception advised room would not be ready till 13:00. Asked us to come back to book in and took our case into storage to save us carting it around. Supplied us with a (very) useful map and we headed out. On return, things went very smoothly creating a very pleasant and friendly introduction to the hotel. Staff All extremely friendly and helpful. Couple of minor issues were immediately sorted out when brought to their attention and I got a very clear impression that it was because they wanted to help rather than simply ‘their job’. Breakfast staff, maintenance/porter, room attendants and all reception staff were excellent. Room Fairly basic (205), reasonable size but very tired. Carpet very badly stained although clean. One double socket at the door and single in bathroom. In this day and age of electronic equipment needing charging, more conveniently located power points are really needed. Tea/coffee making facilities really should also be in all rooms nowadays even if it meant dispensing with the poorly stocked mini bar. Beds We had a double bed confirmed however this was translated into two single beds side by side with each being made up as singles and jamming them together. This really isn’t complying with the request that had been confirmed and made for fairly uncomfortable nights. Lift Very small and only accommodates two people and luggage. Breakfast Self service buffet is more than adequate with 3 meats, boiled/scrambled egg, bacon, fruit, cereals and breads/croissants. Juice, drinks, bread rolls, croissants and cake complete the package. Staff extremely attentive and actively ensure that items are replenished quickly with tables being cleared without delay. Even on busy mornings there was always space for arrivals. Hotel Facilities None, other than a seating area at reception and the breakfast area which is closed outside of the morning. A 10% discount is offered on food/drink at the Carlton on the Grand Canal, a sister hotel a few yards away. Be aware though that prices in this hotel reflect the higher standard that it has. General Hair drier wake up service 6:45 from adjacent room was less than appreciated and sound can be an issue in general. Outside area tends to echo with result you can have spells of shouting interrupting an otherwise quiet area. Other (noisy) residents can be a problem but fortunately this only happened very rarely. Decor was generally smart throughout . Collapse

I booked this hotel to go away February half term with my wife. The hotel was the only downside, we dreaded going back to the hotel and couldn't wait to get out in the mornings. It had a horrible smell in reception, like raw sewage, it was freezing at night and the breakfast was disgusting. We went down the first morning for breakfast and didn't go down again , we thought it was funny it was so bad. Tinned fruit, powdered juice and the coffee was terrible. I also took mostly shirts presuming they would have an iron but they didn't which I found odd and annoying as I had to wear creased shirts the whole time. I would recommend you book elsewhere, lots of hotels in the area. Collapse
