Classiest Hotel in NoMad

With spacious rooms and elegant public areas this is a particularly good hotel choice if NoMad suits you. The staff are very personable and you don’t feel you’re just a source of tips as the big NY hotels make you feel. Recommended

Just got back from a long weekend in New York. We stayed at The James New York - NoMad based on feedback from an article in the Globe and Mail. Overall - lovely smaller hotel in a good location. Close to subway. Selected a slighter bigger room since there were 2 adults and a child. The room size was perfect. Beds excellent. Good storage. Big bathroom - appreciated. Lovely decor. Bottled Water provided in the room was good. Bath products good. Assumed the room would have been bright - we kept the drapes drawn due to the scaffolding outside our window. Robes and slippers - nice touch. What would we change. On the 3rd floor and we could hear everything happening on the street. Woken early in the morning each day. Having a shower flooded the floor. Liked the carpet but it required a better vacuum job. A coffee maker / tea in the room is needed. Lobby beautiful. Nice place to wait while waiting for room. It will be nice when there is a restaurant on premise. We never tried room service but I can’t remember if that was available. Free wifi - thanks. There is construction but limited impact on visitors. Thanks or a good visit. Collapse

Stayed here for a night over the Thanksgiving weekend to see a show with my son. The accomodations are very nice. Rooms are spotless and spacious. They have wine and cheese in the late afternoon in the lobby and they have continental type breakfast in morning. The front desk is friendly and efficient. I enjoyed my stay and will probably stay there again. They do need a bar/restaurant. I believe they are working on it. Fairly new hotel. Collapse

My friend and I stayed 4 nights at this awful hotel. The fact they have 4 stars is beyond me! I’ve stayed at budget hotels nicer and cleaner than this disgusting hotel. I got into the city early the day of check in and they didn’t have the room ready and I noticed a lobby full of guests complaining and unhappy so that wasn’t a good sign for someone starting their vacation. I later understood why. Once we were able to check in, they asked me for my credit card for incidentals as normal. As normal, I asked if my card was going to be charged and for how much. The girl at the front desk said $150 and that was only a hold. I asked three different times if that is all I was going to see as charges because I had paid everything thru Expedia. She assured me that was all. I then got an alert that I was being charged multiple times by the hotel and when I brought that up to their attention they said it was for their resort fee, facilities fee and mini bar in case I decided to take something and this was going to be a daily charge until I check out. I specifically asked when I checked in so there wouldn’t be any surprises. The people working at the front desk had no idea what they were doing. The hotel is still under construction so the facilities fee they try charging you for is absolutely ridiculous!! There are no facilities to use!! Be aware of this charge!!!! Now let’s talk about the room! This is supposed to be a fairly new hotel and by no means is it new or clean. I’ve never stayed somewhere so dirty and beat up. We went up to the room and the bed and sheets looked and smelled as if someone had already been sleeping there! The towels looked and felt used!! I was mortified!!! There was trash all over!! When I brought this to the attention of the hotel it they were “shocked”, they offered to have someone come up with us to see if we were lying but not at all offer to have the stupid room cleaned!! Unfortunately we couldn’t go elsewhere so we had to make the best of it. Around 7 am the next morning housekeeping was pounding on our door and then got pissed when I said we were still sleeping. They came back at 8 am again then 9. This happened the whole time we were there. We were on vacation!!!!!!!! I got no sleep!!! The mini bar people also liked coming in to replenish the mini bar multiple times and at very odd hours. No privacy, no common courtesy!!! This hotel needs so much work and their staff needs a lot of training!!! I couldn’t believe how awful this place was for how much they charge a night. They don’t have anything they advertise. No room service because they don’t have a kitchen but they do bring you water that is supposedly free but don’t fall for that. They have coffee catered but only from 6-8 in the morning. When you’re on vacation you want the flexibility of having coffee when you want it. I can’t stress how awful this hotel was. Ruined my vacation. When I checked out I made certain no additional charges were being tacked on my credit card. I felt as if I was disputing charges the whole weekend. Again, they assured me no more charges and even gave me an itemized receipt. I came home and a few days later found more surprises and charges from the hotel. Amazing how they do this and try to get away with it. Spend your money on better hotels on the area!!!! This place is not worth it! Also, if you’re worried about safety, this place is not for you! Not only are the staff seriously invading your privacy, anyone off the street can come in to the hotel, into the elevator and to the rooms. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!! Collapse

Stayed in August while bringing son to college, was so impressed went back in October Beautiful hotel, recently renovated. Comfortable lobby with couches and seating areas, in the morning coffee and tea is served. Nice to sit and chat, enjoy the music and comings and goings. The employees go above and beyond to make you comfortable, making sure you have enjoyable stay. Filtered glass bottles of water are available upon request. The area feels safe, had no hesitation walking at night, variety of restaurants close by. Especially enjoyed Byblos which is right around corner. Highly recommend and will definitely return Collapse
