We had 2 rooms in Club San Juan and stayed 12 nights. We booked with Jet2 but had to upgrade direct with hotel as Jet2 didn't offer these rooms. We emailed the hotel requesting high floors and adjacent if possible, both our requests were met, and even better, my daughter, husband and granddaughter received an upgrade to a Superior room with a 4-poster bed and being a corner room it had an additional door and entrance that led to both our rooms and kept shut at night to avoid mosquitoes. Both rooms were kept spotlessly clean by the maids visiting twice a day. Some maids folded away the sofa bed for my granddaughter during the day and then prepared it again in the evening. Others left it made up as a bed. Towels were changed every day, even after we had hung them to dry. Some small disappointments, we received 2 small bottles of complimentary water on arrival, though when we booked in January we were told a mini fridge would be stocked with soft drinks. We didn't question this, as I think they are subject to change, also we were sent an email telling us that a free visit to Ferrariland was included during our stay but on arrival we weren't offered the free visit. One more small thing in the description of the rooms on the hotel website it states that the Club rooms have a DVD player and we brought a collection of DVDs with us but no DVD. The only English speaking channels were Sesame Street and CNN news. Sometimes we could get BBC World but atmospheric problems and unwatchable most of the time. The Club San Juan rooms as mentioned before are beautiful, quality furnishings and very spacious. We made full use of the very large and beautiful well appointed bathrooms. We loved the whirlpool baths (perfect for tired feet after visiting the theme parks) with shower spray and separate walk-in shower and Caribbean beach papered walls. We received 2 lots of complimentary toiletries in addition to the wall mounted soap and shower gels and during our 2nd week we noticed they had fitted Dove hand gel by the double sink units. Loads of wardrobe space, ceiling fans as well as perfect air conditioning, large furnished balconies all with pool views. Even the lift had a beautiful picture of the Caribbean in it! Very well done and you definitely felt like you were in the Caribbean. There was a sumptuous breakfast in the Club Lounge and in addition to the buffet a waitress would come and take your order for any hot items, always made to order, Spanish sausage, English sausage, bacon, eggs done a few ways, beans, tomatoes, hash browns, omelettes to taste, pancakes and churros. All beautifully presented on your plate. The buffet breakfast was the same as the main restaurant not sure if the following items were in the main restaurant, smoked salmon, freshly squeezed orange juice, pineapple juice, apple juice, individual Kelloggs cereal boxes, an array of yogurts including Actimel, Cava, bottled water and very nice coffee. You could come down any time you wanted between 8am and 10.30am. Also from 7pm til 9.30pm there was more Cava, bottled water, a selection of whole fruits, crisps, green olives, savoury biscuits and a plate of canapes. One privilege of staying in the Club rooms was free breakfast in your room. Unfortunately we had to make 3 phone calls before breakfast was delivered. Our order on the door hadn't even been picked up. This was disappointing as we had planned an 8am breakfast to eat as we got ready to make an early start one day and this didn't happen. Service was disappointing. We didn't get to visit the Spa, opening hours didn't suit us, 7am til 11am and from 6pm. It looks like you have to wear provided swimming caps to use the indoor pool, towels are provided. This was another included facility for Club San Juan guests, and use of the gym too. We were half board and found the buffet good. It wasn't the best buffet for a 4 star hotel but there is something for everyone. As mentioned in earlier reviews there's always 2 fish choices, various meat choices, always pizza, but not always vegetarian unfortunately, (would request cheese pizza is available every night as this was extremely popular - more so than the meat options). Always pasta and 3 sauces, a children's counter of chips, fish fingers, chicken nuggets, burgers, hot dogs, loads of fresh salad items and prepared salads, but overuse of peppers which my daughter and granddaughter are allergic to and both are vegetarians. But they loved both the breaded creamed spinach and just spinach which they could eat with the pasta and giving a good vegetarian dish. There was a good selection of cheeses, always 2 different soups, one being vegetarian. Always at least 2 cooked vegetables available changing daily. We didn't like the mini desserts though, most seemed to taste very bitter, possible overuse of baking powder? They looked lovely but we were never able to eat them. The ones containing gelatine tasted great, but unfortunately not a choice for vegetarians, as were the jellies and mousses. Vegetarian jelly is available and it sets quicker too. Cornetto ice creams were available and some ice lollies and ice cream tubs and yogurts, as well as loads of beautiful fresh cut fruit and whole fruit. No hot puddings though. Oh and not forgetting the breads, there were a lovely selection of fresh breads, every evening. And you could help yourself to water from a machine, we thought this was a real bonus as in the past we have always had to order bottled water at a price! We found all waiting staff to be very polite and helpful and we tipped generously, though the chefs were not as pleasant, hesitating to give you clean serving utensils for vegetarian items, indicating you could use the ones that had been used for meat. Also telling people in Spanish to wait for new freshly prepared pizzas, but not passing this on to all nationalities. There seemed to be no 'give' in that a toasted sandwich must contain both ham and cheese, and not possible to have just cheese. This must mean that these come ready prepared, bought in and just warmed up. This was the case in the hotel bar and throughout the theme park. We also noticed that in the delicatessen in the theme park we had to buy the cheese sandwiches in the morning as these were always sold out at lunch time and the just cheese pizzas were very popular in the theme park too. Please can you provide more cheese sandwiches and cheese pizzas, so to ensure vegetarians can always find something to eat rather than just pasta and tomato sauce? Vegetarians do not eat tuna fish either which are in most salads. But on the whole we thought food in the theme parks tasted very good and you can find decently priced nutritious food and in generous portions. We were pleasantly surprised as some previous reviews were not good of food in the theme parks, very ill informed. We always got value for money. We saw loads of families eating baguette type sandwiches wrapped in silver foil and eating in the cafes. We thought we could purchase them but having double checked the menu realised that these had obviously been smuggled in, along with large bags of crisps. And yet we saw some families being turned away to put their food into lockers at the entrance. Entry to the theme park took ages, though to be fair, this was mostly due to the people trying to enter the park asking question after question and then producing a printed out piece of paper and not a proper ticket. This happened every time we tried to enter the park and we got very tired of it. Could these people be directed to an Information Desk to ask their questions and could notices be put up at various points on your way in about having the right ticket? Also the stamped re-entry queue was full of people who were trying to gain entry for the first time, being turned away from re-entry but pushing into the front of the queue to the left and being let through, when we and other people in the correct queue had already been waiting around 15 minutes and were not moving. This was so frustrating. The pools were all lovely, and we especially enjoyed the shade in the Club San Juan pool and whirlpool. You are allowed to wear sunglasses as long as you have string attached so they don't fall off and you are allowed to wear swimming goggles and children armbands. You are also allowed to wear the special swim shoes and in the waterpark. But you aren't allowed floats, balls or cameras in the pool. The use of the Premium Fastpasses was very welcomed as the theme parks were mostly very busy during our stay but Friday (busiest changeover day?) was very quiet. You could hardly move in the evenings in the theme parks, 10.00am opening was the best time to visit though as mentioned in other reviews not all rides open at that time, some 10.30, 11.00 or even 11.30am. Furious Baco was always busy first thing as this is the first ride people see. Not all rides opened on time, sometimes 5 to 10 mins later. Young children also receive a Fastpass, even though you don't pay theme park entry until they are 4 years old. My granddaughter being tall for a 3 year old and just over 1 metre could ride Silver River Flume, Angkor, Temple Del Fuego of the big 10, though I don't recommend the latter for small children. We always used the complimentary road train provided and always managed to get on. Some people do stroll in last minute and walk to the front of the queue but we found that by spreading out we always managed to get on and then sit together. The first train starts at 9.45am and run every 10 mins. It drops you off underneath the road bridge and picks you up where they drop off. Be careful not to get on the Salou road train as this is not free, unless you are going to Salou. The prices are for a return journey and if you stay on it takes you right along the promenade then turns round and drops you off at various stops right by the beach. It seems to make more stops after it has turned round. If you want to book restaurants in the theme park you will have to book early in August as seats are limited. We highly recommend the Italian restaurant at the hotel, very generous portions, especially the set menu. And very nice staff. We booked Gold River buffet one night, we didn't enjoy this as much as Hotel Caribe nearly every plate was still dirty and we saw a lot of flies around the food. We looked around and didn't like the pool setting compared to Hotel Caribe either. Why Hotel Caribe hasn't got at least 4 star rating on Trip Advisor we fail to understand? We think Hotel Caribe deserves a much better rating. If you are thinking of booking please just do it, and if you have already booked you are in for a real treat, it is beautiful - enjoy! Collapse

We booked 2 nights 3 days with breakfast direct with the hotel group on their roulette offer. We found out we would be staying at the Caribe 24hrs before by email. It was fine as we had stayed there previously. The rooms had been updated since our last visit and were clean and tidy with a Caribbean theme. The bathrooms had also been updated with a full shower screen. Our room had two double beds for the 4 of us which was great and the mini fridge was great for drinks and water which we bought from a supermarket 10 mins away. We bought the fast passes for our teen boys which enabled them to jump the queues on the bigger rides. This was €66 each. Was glad we had as the park was busier than We had ever seen it. We used the pools during the afternoons to cool off which were clean with plenty of sunbeds but be aware you can't use inflatables or balls in the pool or wear sunglasses. The lifeguards are very strict. Food and drink at lunchtime in the hotel was reasonably priced. We didn't eat there in the evenings as we are in the park one night and in the Gold River hotel restaurant another. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. As other reviewers have said you have to opt for a breakfast time. We didn't mind this as it eased pressure on the restaurant so it never felt crowded or that you were being rushed. A good holiday all in all. One tip...you can't get into your room until 3pm but you can check in get your key card and use the pool or go into the park. There is a luggage store to leave your bags! Just returned from a week at this hotel and we all really enjoyed our stay. As a lone parent travelling with two children, one of whom has additional support needs, the comfort and security of the Hotel for me is paramount. I felt this Hotel ticked all the boxes. Food was good (other reviews do not agree but you can't please everyone!) lots of choice. Meals are buffet style, Kids have a little buffet section but can eat from anywhere in the restaurant. Have themed areas which change daily as well as your staple of chicken/hot dog/burgers and chips pasta etc. Heaps of cheese, bread and fruit plus desserts if you have room! Hotel was clean, staff were pleasant, rooms were good with plenty fresh towels and a balcony with a table and chairs. Gardens are lovely, there is a path around the whole complex which makes for a nice after dinner walk, there's gym equipment dotted around and a small play park too. There's no rush for sun loungers here, everything is laid back Caribbean style! Plenty loungers, parasols, shady trees, beach style pool with sandy graduated depth so no wondering about sudden drops in the pool floor! Please note:don't bother buying inflatables for any of the pools here, they're not allowed. Armbands are ok. Life guards are on duty and will ask you to remove sunglasses and no phones in the pools. It's about 10/15 mins walk downhill into Salou, where there is plenty of supermarkets, souvenir shops and of course the beach! You could take the little Tourist train down. It costs a few euros and can take you round the town to see the other sights. You can get to Portaventura via a different purple coloured train specifically for Hotel Caribe and Hotel El Paso patrons to use. It stops just across the road from the Hotel entrance and takes you to the gates, it's the same entrance to access all the parks (Portaventura,Caribe Aquatic Park and Ferrari Land) and picks you back up when you're done. They run every ten mins or so. The park opens until midnight in peak season, so after tea the queues are far shorter and the sun not hot. The park is a few minutes walk up a hill. Buggies are a must for little ones as the parks are a lot of walking! You can hire them in Portaventura park from 12e per day if needed and also motorised buggies. I'll review the parks separately. We stayed for 11 nights and had a great time and access to the park throughout was fantastic. The queues at reception are what really let this hotel down as even just to make a dinner reservation you were met with a minimum 10-15 minute queue never mind the 30 minute check in queue. The room was lovely and had plenty space for 2 adults and 1 child. There are 2 pools one of which is a sandy pool but there did seem to be quite a bit rubbish in the bottom of the pool at times so we preferred the non sandy pool. The lifeguards really did waste any fun for anyone at the pool though as one day my daughter was whistled out the pool for wearing a tshirt to stop her shoulders. There were no balls or inflatables and no sun glasses in the pool or they would whistle at you! Food in the hotel was good with plenty choice and very good that you can exchange your dinner in the hotel for vouchers at restaurants in the park. No evening entertainment meant we went elsewhere after dinner. We would stay again due to the location for the theme park and that you have tickets included throughout. Collapse
