A bad review turned around to an excellent review. My Sister and I went to the Marriott Cardiff in March 2018. We stayed for 3 nights which was Tuesday, Wednesday and the Friday as we had planned. The Thursday night we were staying somewhere else due to an overnight stay in an castle. When we arrived we were met by polite staff who couldn't do enough for us. The lady on the desk was Anna and she booked us in quickly and asked if we needed any help with anything. All the staff were professional and polite and made you feel so welcome We had an executive room on the second floor and the executive lounge was on the 8th floor which didn't matter at all. We got settle in and had a walk around the city before returning to the executive lounge for a light bite and a glass of wine. I had read on TripAdvisor that the executive lounge was small, old fashioned furniture serving cold food and limited beverages. I have to disagree, the food was hot and the wines were chilled and plentiful. We were served by a lovely lady called Samara. Whenever we went to the lounge Samara knew what food and drinks we liked and made sure that we didn't go without anything. She was professional in her manner and always made us feel very welcome. Samara was attentive to everyone's needs and it was a pleasure being there with her. She cared what people were doing and was excited for you when going on trips or excursions around Wales. On leaving the hotel on the Thursday morning again Anna was on the front desk we said we would be back Friday morning. We asked for an upgrade to an Executive Suite and we were told that if there was one available on the Friday then it wouldn't be a problem. On returning Friday we arrived back at the hotel about 11am and was again greeted by Anna, The checking in time was 15.00 but that was ok as we could use the hotels gym, sauna, steam room and pool, to which we did. These facilities were good and after a lovely swim we decided to go and check in. When we tried to book in there was a problem with the room. There had been a mix up with the price and the rooms. We were left to either pay a lot more money than first agreed or move hotels. Anna was trying all kinds of ways to sort the problem out but to no avail, she spoke to the manager who wasn't really any help. The manager didn't come out to see us, just left the problem to Anna, which was very poor indeed of a manager to say the least. With limited options We sat in the bar area and was horrified to think that we wouldn't be able to get to another hotel as it was Friday, the Rugby was on the next day and all the hotels were full. We were devastated. Anna and the Customer Service Lady, Caroline (Sorry if I got your title wrong) came to our rescue. Anna was not able to help us anymore but she said that Caroline might be able to help us with the misunderstanding. Caroline was able to sort out the misunderstanding and we stayed at the hotel in the executive suite. Thank you so much Caroline, Anna and Samara for making our stay at your hotel special. It is just a pity the manager couldn't have come out and spoke to us. We will definitely be coming back to see you all and we will recommend The Marriott. This review could have read so differently so Thank you CAROLINE, ANNA and SAMARA you all have made our trip to Cardiff special. Collapse
