Three attempts needed to correct invoicing/reservation of a huge payment on credit card (more than USD 2,300 for 3 days). Room o.k, but reception/billing a nightmare. Upon arrival I mentioned that I had a hotel voucher and room was prepaid. I was asked to present my credit card, and a huge payment reservation was made (more than USD 2,300). Despite three visits to reception the mistake was not correct. One day before departure, again a wrong bill was sent to my email. Back home I filed a complaint with Hilton customer service, still not sure whether the payment reservation on credit card has been cancelled. Nothing from Hilton apart from a simple apology when back home. Collapse

On our last stay at the Capitol Hilton I left a bag of personal care items in a plastic bag on the floor of the bathroom. The maid that cleaned our room mistakenly thought it was trash and took it away. When we called housekeeping they told us the trash was gone, but within a few minutes a supervisor came to our room, listened to our story, and assured us it would be rectified. By the end of the evening a Hilton employee had gone out, bought the items, and brought them up to us. Wow, a hotel that really understands what customer service means. All the staff we encountered during our stay were great, and when you include the terrific location of this hotel we wouldn't stay anywhere else. Collapse

Just back from a great trip to DC. It was a wonderful trip and the Capital Hilton certainly helped. We enjoyed our stay and would come back. I will give a little more feedback on why I give this a 4 star rating. Good: - The hotel is in a great location. I would consider it the best location in DC for a Hilton if you are looking to access both downtown as well as the sites (White House, National Mall, etc). Plenty of restaurants and very walkable to many locales. - The hotel has some history that is interesting (built in WWII, first hotel with air conditioning). The historic feel helps with the overall DC experience. I would call it charm mixed with more modern updates if that is your style. - The staff was overall very good / excellent when engaged. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and wanted to help / do a good job. Even when we had issues, they expressed regret and fixed them ASAP. We had no complaint at all about service. - They truly care about a good stay. I got several texts while I was there asking if I had issues. When I expressed concerns about my Hilton Honors benefits they were very attentive and the manager sent a cheese tray and sparkling water along with a hand written note. They definitely want to make sure your stay was good. - Our room (620) with 2 queen beds also had a couch and plenty of open space. It was quite comfortable for a 5 night stay with our family of 4. - The onsite gym is phenomenal. One of the best amenities by far. - The amount and speed of the elevators were great. Never had to wait (which is atypical for a Hilton in my experience). One day they were not stopping on the 6th floor but we notified the staff and it was fixed quickly. What could be improved: - If you are Hilton Honors and are used to being made to fill extra special as a guest (above and beyond average), you may be slightly disappointed here. I wasn't greeted as an Hilton Honors member (I am Diamond) nor given my bottles of water. I did get my premium internet (which connects automatically) and I did have access to the Executive Lounge. We stayed on a busy Columbus Day weekend so there was no upgrade availability. From what I gather, there is really not much opportunity for upgrade here given how busy the hotel is and lack of true upgradeable rooms. If you go in with this expectation, you won't be disappointed. - The Executive Lounge is lackluster compared to other Hilton Hotels and Resorts. In fact, that would be our biggest complaint. The Lounge is on the bottom floor lobby (right by the restaurant) and only attended for a few hours each day so just about anyone can enter. I had people tailgate me in and later heard they really didn't have access but had been able to get in everyday. At breakfast the lounge was almost unusable. It was overcrowded to the point that we had to stand and eat our breakfast one morning (that could also have been due to many people finishing their meals and leisurely checking their phones without looking around). In addition, the staff could not keep up with demand so plates and utensils frequently ran out as did breakfast items. For our first 3 days we could not get bottles of water because they were out each time (that settled down by day 3 and 4). The breakfast is below your standard Executive Lounge as they only offer eggs and oatmeal as a hot item. IT is basically continental only. Same for the evening reception. A small hot appetizer and then nuts were all we found. Simply put, if you are an Honors member this will likely fall short. If you are not honors, I wouldn't upgrade to the lounge. Again, if you don't have a comparison you may not be disappointed. - Don't expect much of a view. This typically goes without saying in downtown hotels that aren't super tall, but there are probably only 10% of rooms that have great views here. Mostly you will be looking at the other side of the hotel or at other buildings. That didn't bother us, but it is important to know to set expectations. - The restaurants (especially the lounge in the evening and room service) are not family friendly. We did order room service one night and the food was good for the adults but a little too much for the kids. If you have a family, plan to eat away from the hotel (there are plenty of close options). Overall, I would stay here again with better expectations about the Hilton Honors benefits and the lounge. We had a wonderful stay and the helpfulness of the staff made up for the shortcomings. Really, the service we got made up for the shortcomings that are somewhat inherent with the location, design and constraints of the property. If you are looking for a solid place to stay under the Hilton brand with proximity to a lot then I would recommend this property. If your Hilton Honors perks are super important to you, this may not be the best property for you. Collapse

This hotel had the worst "Executive Lounge" I've ever experience. Do not pay the extra money for this service. Apparently everyone has access to this lounge. The door was always open so anybody could just walk in. Also, this was located in the lobby which is strange. There were never enough seats, which never happens. The bar service was "On Your Honor" type of system. You fill your glass with beer or wine and write down on a form what you had. Oh, this is only available for 2 hours. This room is a paid privilege, not a right. It felt like this room was simply a participation award, so it didn't feel special to have access to it. My fiance and I did not work this hard in life to have the same access to this room as everyone else. Collapse
