No hassle 4-night stay. Room was clean, comfortable and quiet. There are just a handful of rooms on each floor so that really keeps noise down. There was a free bag of microwave popcorn in microwave. Very convenient location. 7 Eleven down the street and just a few blocks to the subway. Staff were always friendly. For just four nights, I don't mind not having housekeeping to save a few bucks in a city as expensive as this. Collapse

Just returned from a 7 night stay, and after reading several negative reviews, was dubious about this hotel. However, I can’t fault any aspect. I took the Shortline coach from Stewart International, which drops you at Port Authority - only one block from the hotel. Arrived in the very early hours as my flight was delayed and the member of staff on duty ensured a swift check-in. Room was extremely clean, perfect size for my needs and as a single traveller, I really appreciated the kitchen area as I wanted to make my own meals in the evening - as well as making my own breakfast. Just something to note, groceries are very expensive compared to UK prices, so if you can, take as many of your own staple items as you can - sugar, salt, t-bags, etc. I went with only a few outfits, as wanted to do Christmas shopping (wanted plenty space in my suitcase), so made use of their on-site laundry. I took my own detergent but you can purchase this as well as laundry sheets from their small store. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the washers and driers were free to use. The machines looked fairly new, and were easy to use (the room comes equipped with a laundry basket too). The kitchen has all you need and the dishwasher was an added bonus (tea towels are provided, as well as washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets - but not a washing sponge or cloth - I just used a face cloth!). I chose not to have daily housekeeping as knew there would be an additional cost. There were three sets of towels, so more than enogh to cover my stay, but if I needed more, they would have been provided on request. There are plenty of bins in the room and when they were full I just left the bags outside my room and housekeeping removed them. I walked almost eveywhere - 10 mins to Times Square and just under an hour to Centrel Park. Well worth taking one of the open top bus tours though. Overall, a fantastic stay and I thoroughly recommend this hotel. One thing, not related to the hotel - I again took the Shortline (via Coach USA) back to the airport and unfortunately, one of my bags was stolen off the bus. You have to load your own bags then board the bus, while the driver is checking passengers tickets. Someone was hanging around in the queue and took my my cabin bag out of the hold - the doors are left open until just before departure and there is no security. Apparently, it happens almost daily, and the police are trying to get the company to have an additional employee to watch over the luggage, but they are not keen to do this. I contacted the company and they have sent me a claim form, so I should hopefully get compensation for what was stolen - just annoying that the case was full of gifts, many of which are not available in the UK. Having read some of the reviews after booking I was a little dubious, but once we arrived and checked in we couldn’t fault it. Yes the room is compact but it’s spotlessly clean and has everything we need in it. We had an issue with a fridge not working so called down and someone arrived within 10 minutes had a quick look decided that it wasn’t and instant fix so just took it away and replaced it, reducing the time we were inconvenienced, the engineer was friendly and the rest of the staff have been great. If you want somewhere ideally located that’s clean and friendly then this fits the bill. Collapse

We were disappointed with this hotel for numerous reasons. When we checked in, we were informed that the extended stay rate did not include housekeeping, which would cost another $15 per night. There is no mention of this additional charge on the website. Out of principle, we declined. As a result, we made our own bed (no big deal), but had to tote our trash and recycling downstairs and outside to find receptacles (a pain). We had to contact the front desk for new towels, and over the course of a week got four different instructions on how to submit a request. As we entered the room, we found the phone was broken and that there was a definite smell of smoke. Housekeeping staff quickly responded with an odor-cancelling spray, but we didn't get a working phone until day 2. The refrigerator had many small dents, one burner of the stovetop didn't work, and there was a crack in the bathroom sink. The biggest issue was that there was a nightstand on only one side of the bed. The space for the nightstand on the other side was taken up by a very narrow clothes closet that also contained an iron and ironing board, a laundry hamper, and the newly added safety deposit box. We removed the hamper and board to hang our clothes, but had to use a flashlight, push the clothes aside, and kneel on the floor to see to open the safety deposit box. At night, the AC unit and the refrigerator kept cycling off and on, but I was okay with earplugs. The one time I called the concierge for advice, the lady thought I was saying "High Line" when I repeatedly said "Lincoln Center." Elevators are among the fastest I've experienced in a hotel. This hotel was within a 15-20 minute walk to Times Square, and 10-15 minutes to the closest subway station. There are several very small groceries and a nice bakery within a block. Heavy construction across the street from the hotel made it difficult to catch a taxi there. We've decided to forgo the kitchenette the next time we go to New York, and instead book a room that includes housekeeping and (hopefully) a larger closet. Collapse
