Hotel with unbearable dirtiness causing skin rash

I recently booked a two-night stay at this Candlewood Suites-Jersey City. After traveling long hours, I arrived at the hotel. Firstly, upon arrival, I got treated very unfriendly by the front desk staff. I was put on a room at ground floor originally but I asked for a room at higher floor. All I got the response was there is no any other room available. But without any notice, when I tried to take a shower in the room, I found the shower water was not warm at all and I further noticed that the water was very dirty (shown in pics attached). Since I got very sensitive skill, I immediately got skin reactions with red rash. (Pics attached) I got several parts of the body feeling itchy and painful! Then I reported to the front desk around midnight, there is another female staff working on changing another room for me. But the new room was smelly and the blanket was clearly not changed with long hair on it. Then for the third time, I got changed to the third room, where the blanket was still not clean....In the end, after midnight, I had to change the blanket with the security, but there was simply no clean duvet cover to change! What's even worse, the next morning (around 9am), I did report to the front desk staff that there is no clean duvet cover in my room and I asked them politely if they could bring some clean one. Even though both ladies who worked at the front desk noticed the problem down and said they will make sure to deal with the problem. But when I came back to my room in the night, there is even no tidy-up in the room, not to mention new clean duvet cover. Then I called the front desk to ask why there is no change in the room. Very unhelpfully, I got a reply from the front desk saying that only long term stay customers will get replace of duvet from time to time in this hotel. After contacting the manager of the hotel, all I got back is empty apology with refusal of refund any of my hotel payment. He said that the dirty water was from maintenance done by the city with not much advanced notice. Still, this didn't explain why the front desk did not warm anyone who newly came to stay in the hotel. I can understand that they have no influence with the late notice about dirty water. But still, there is no staff noticing me when I arrived at your hotel. From the beginning till the end, no staff member from the hotel showed any concern if my skin reaction is gone or if I need medication. I found the staff in this hotel very irresponsible. I have been traveled more than 10 years in many countries. This is the first time I received such bad service, very shocking how dirty this hotel was and how iresponsible the Collapse

Stayed Candlewood suites in NJ for four nights. Great service, nice and large rooms, excellent beds and short distance to manhattan. PATH station is close and train goes to manhattan every 10 minutes. Would stay again.

This is our second time. All rooms have kitchennette. No fla fla, You pay for what you get. The location is perfect for NY visit. Public transportation includes ferry to NY, Trains to NY (PATH), a light rail network and buses. Parking is 25$/day, more than 1/2 the price in Manhattan. Fantastic view of new York City (especially at dusk) and you hear birds in the morning. Excellent personnel, assle free place ! Highly recommended. Wish: With a pool on the roof I would give 120%... We visit Jersey City about every 6 months. After trying several hotels we have settled on Candlewood Suites. Great front dest staff, especially Ruth, all take care of getting repairs quickly, give good accuract info on restaurants, rentals, how to get around. A wonderful light rail system is about a half of a football field from the hotel. Also hotel has a free shuttle service that takes residents around Jersey. Hotel is 1 light raid station & a little walk to the NJ PATH Station that leads straight to Manhatten or World. Execellent weight room with weights, stationary bikes & snacks supplies room. We were there looked at & staved @several oth hotels & have settled on Candlewood Suites. We will go back there to regularly check on our granddaughter's growth. Continuing my previous review, this is a very nice hotel. It has full kitchen (with tabletop stove, microwave, fridge), nice location (10 minutes walk from Newport Path station) and nice amenities. But the thing that almost negated all of that was a simple toilet. And it's not like it's a bad one and it's probably my own personal problem. The thing is it kept clogging every time I took a poop. I know, somebody would say that I have mammoth poops. Maybe. BUT! No other toilet in US that I went though had this problem. I used toilets at my work, at my friend's house, at an apartment that I stayed for a month, at some cafes and restaurants. None of those had that problem. Which leads me to believe that this is just the specific toilet model installed in Candlewood that I am having troubles with. And all of the rooms that I've been in (I've been in that hotel 3 times by now) have the same toilets. And I do understand that this IS my problem. The hotel won't change the toilets for me alone. But because of this, it made my longtime stay much-much worse. I even buy a plunger each time I get there simply because I don't want to go to the reception in the middle of the night asking for one. And I say "Sorry" to whoever got to clean up my poop on weekly cleanup. I really tried to unclog it myself, but I failed. I succeeded most of the times, but sometimes toilet won. And I think this is something that I, as a guest, should not even be considering when staying at the hotel. I have my own stuff to do. I came to the hotel not to unclog my toilet, but for some other business. But alas... And, to their credit, staff is generally very helpful. But that toilet... Anyway, like it says in the title "Nice hotel, crappy toilet". Collapse
