I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you like hot food . The food all week has been lukewarm at best but more often than not stone cold . Avoid like the plague. Choices on menu are also limited. Reception staff are friendly dining area not so much.

I paid £22 a night for 5 nights via Travelrepublic for a single occupancy room full board, and you can't argue with that! My room was basic, dated and spartan and more than a little dark - but it was spotlessly clean, the shower worked fine and the bed was comfortable. The heating unit also worked well and I even had a very small balcony. Let's be clear, this isn't a hotel for foodies, and nor is it for Brits who come away to eat as they do at home. The food was very simple, but it was better than I expected, probably because it catered towards the Spanish. At breakfast, there were always fresh fried eggs in the morning as well as other basic hot food items, a choice of fresh fruit and the usual breads and buns. They are also happy to provide gluten free bread if you ask them. For main meals, there was always something that I enjoyed well enough, which on different occasions included things such as paella, pork chops, and rabbit. Salads were fresh (if limited and repetitive) and desserts were basic (but again always plenty of fresh fruit on standby). They will happily make you up a packed lunch if you order by the evening before, and you then get a very generous picnic bag to take away at breakfast time. The perfectly drinkable house wine was an amazing €3 a bottle and a large bottle of water €1. Don't know how they do it at that price, even in Spain! There is a large bar and entertainment room, which only became busy at the weekend when a large number of Spanish pensioners arrived for a dancing break. I think it's being fair to say that the hotel guests here are generally unsophisticated older folks, but well behaved and no boozy Brits around. The small pool and terrace is perfectly pleasant, and there are tables and chairs but no sunbeds. On balance I found the staff to be uneffusive, though friendly enough once you got talking to them. One of the main women who works in the restaurant is very warm. I wouldn't want to spend a fortnight here, and it's not the kind of place to come if you don't enjoy being in a Spanish-oriented hotel, but for a short break I thought it was very adequate and great value. Location is central and great for the old town, Poniente, and walking to the train station. Collapse
OK but not fantastic when wallets were stolen in a club.

The staff were polite on the whole but most of them did not smile very much, perhaps that’s just their custom but I found it a little off putting. Some of the staff spoke very good English but some barely understood a word. We had bed and breakfast and the food was very nice, always fresh. Most of the guests were Spanish and again it’s not customary for them to smile or be polite and because of that, again, it took some getting used to, pushing in front of you etc.... The hotel was very clean, the room was basic but clean and perfectly adequate. Hot water always on tap and a balcony with a nice pool view. Unfortunately on a night out in old town both my partner and I had our wallets stolen, of course we should have known better than to take them out with us. The hotel receptionist said he could not help at all and directed us to the local police station, there we were told to go to an English assistance office to register the offence but it was closed until Monday, this was Saturday morning. Luckily I had my phone and have a good contract so I could call to have our cards all stopped. I had to search online for options as we had no cash left apart from 20 euros. I found out that I was able to set up a western union account and transfer money into it from my banking app on my phone (make sure you have a pen and paper if you do this). I had to call western union 3 times to get it completed and the girl at the Trans Cash office was no help. But in the end I could get the cash I needed without my bank card. I was very disappointed that the hotel staff did not know that was an option. If it hadn’t been for that night I may have come back to the hotel. Unfortunately I don’t think I could say that now. Apart from that night we have had a very nice time, we would think twice about visiting Benidorm or The Hotel Camposol again though. Collapse
