This is a average to good hotel with excellent drinks. San Miguel on tap. Fresh coffee avaliable etc. The hotel is split into 2 separate buildings and it does look dated. The pool areas need updating and look past there best. Food is above average in a newly updated restaurant. The only gripe I have is the queue for the toaster and drinks in the morning as people tend to push in. The rooms are OK and very clean. The reception area looks like it's straight out of the 80s with Dallas style coving. It's a about a 10 min walk to the main promenade with shops etc. There is an arcade with a mini bowling alley that's 2 euro a player in the hotel. The entertainment is good at night but not a lot happens in the day. At night the main shows start at 10pm. Been in the pool a couple of times and it is cold, maybe it's just that time of year. The pool area is overlooked by other high rise buildings which did block the sun from some of the pool area. I found the staff to be helpful apart from one grumpy barman. Collapse

Just arrived back from spending 2 weeks at the Salou calypso. The Hotel itself was very clean and the staff very friendly. But there was a few things we were not happy with. When we got to our room I went to wash my hands and scalded myself with the very hot water from the tap obviously the hotel does not test there water. Secondly we noticed the TV was situated on the far left hand corner near the patio door and we could not swivel the TV to face the beds and also there was only 2 news channels which kept repeating it’s stories. There was no airer on the balcony. There was also no WIFI in the rooms as it was only in the bar area. The bar area needed updating and when serving drinks they would put it in a plastic beaker and as we were not all inclusive we were not very happy. There was also no fridge in the rooms. We also notice in our stay there walls are very very thin so you could hear conversations going on in the next rooms. Had a walk round the pool area which we thought the main pool was a bit tacky and there was loose tiles which could be a tripping hazard for the youngsters and the elderly. The main thing which spoilt the second week of our Holiday was the Restaurant. There was 2 blocks for the hotel and we were all squeezed into one restaurant and there was never enough food and tables as the staff could not catch up with the demand and also we could see the waitresses were under a lot of pressure trying to clear the tables before more guests came through the door, they would sometimes take your plates before finishing the meals. On one occasion we see the cook was trying to dish up eggs which was not fully cooked as also trying to keep up. There was not enough food to begin with and I ended up with salad nearly every night as I did not like the look of the food . The coffee and the juice machine were together which caused a lot of confusion in the queue and only 2 Toasters in the whole of the restaurant. The restaurant was very stuffy as no air conditioning. In our second week they also had up to 100 school children every day and it was manic as you can imagine and very noisy a lot of people were complaining. One morning we could not get into the restaurant for breakfast and had to leave and come back later then when we did there was not bacon or sausages and not crockery and went to get coffee and people had to use glasses as no cups and saucers which we were disgusted of this. The teachers were not taken much notice of the children as we noticed they were drinking alcohol on there table. At night there was so much noise from the school children we could not get to sleep till very late. We spend our hard earnt money to have a pleasant holiday and only to have to put up with this. My partner and myself,2 girls aged 5+8 and toddler twins checked in 14th oct for one week.reception check in very quick.staff in all areas I found to be very good and food pretty good, snack bar preferred. Bad points...high chairs in hotel are lethal, please be careful, are little girl had bad fall on first night, thankfully she didnt get injured but she would not enter one for us after that.kids daytime activities needs to be improved, non existing.and as previous guests have said and ive seen it for myself,90% of the elderly spanish guests need to attend a school of common decency before going on holiday as I found absolutely rude ignorant and bad mannered people I have ever met in the 8 years we have been going to salou.shame on you people, just remember a lot of revenue comes from tourists like ourselves which im sure contributes to your state paid holiday. Over all good holiday, and we will return but not in october.much cheaper to book direct with hotel through call centre by the way. Collapse

We went mid October when the resort is shutting down and the weather isn't great. At this time of year the resort is taken over by elderly Spanish people and Calypso is no exception. Good points: Food is good, plenty of choice and hot and fresh. The crowded restaurant can be a challenge, especially at breakfast where you will need to stand up for yourself to get your coffee and toast. Rooms a decent standard, if a bit dated, and cleaned daily. Staff in the reception and restaurant are hard working and helpful. Bad points: Paper thin walls and noisy almost all night, even in low season. I wouldn't recommend all inclusive as it is not really a place I would choose to spend my evenings. Limited entertainment starts at 10. Not a great location on the edge of the resort in a fairly run down area. Bar staff unhelpful and would make you wait for no apparent reason. We bought a card for an automatic beer machine and it caused me no end of problems. I paid very little for this holiday and would go again if I got a cheap deal, however, I would have been disappointed had this been our main annual vacation. Collapse

Visited the medplaya calypso from 7th to 14th oct with my wife and kids and extended friends of my wife and their families. This is a very good 3* hotel we satayed in the flamingo oasis in the summer and this hotel is just as good. The food is decent and varied. The entertainment team work their socks of and the restaurant staff are very friendly especially samba. The allinclusive is good with bottles of water and crisps a good extra. I only have one gripe twi of the staff raymond and manuel need new jobs their customer service skills are terrible they constantly bark at customers i feel its been a long season for them. And portaventura is the best theme park in europe it is fantastic. We will return to the medplaya it is a good hotel. Collapse
