The hotel is in a great location - the lovely College Green and canal-walkways with restaurants, if you wanted a short stroll, and not too far from the city centre shops, either. The building could do with a bit of renovation (especially, the bathrooms) and I would have liked a small refrigerator in my room (minibar, but not necessarily with any drinks to be purchased, just to cool some water). Also, the wi-fi was extremely slow. But the stay was enjoyable and the kitchen gets top marks - both for the small snacks in the bar (flatbread with spinach and feta) and the vegetarian food I was served at a large gala-dinner. Excellent. Collapse

I stayed in this hotel on business. We got off to a bad start after it took me over 30 mins to check in. The system didn't have my booking and the hotel was full. I was tired after a long day and didn't appreciate the offer of a free drink in the bar. I saw the manager who was extremely helpful and could not have done more for me to make recompense. The room was nice with a large somewhat outdated bathroom and I slept well. The food is expensive for what it is but I enjoyed both breakfast and room service. The hotel is well located for all Bristol attractions being located in College Green. It is close to the waterfront. Collapse

Booked in for a one night stay, hopefull it would be a great experience however..... Paid for deluxe King size room or a queen size ended up with a family room with two double beds, . Good if we had an arguement I guess, Bathroom was dirty and still had hairs from the previous guest in it, Offered a replacement queen room only to be told it was lower ground floor and not as nice as where we were, My experience of the staff was a good one yet seemingly dissapointing as had been told there was no other rooms available as they were full.... It's a pity. I was so looking forward too my first experience here.. I don't think I will be returning Collapse

Well located hotel, great car parking for city centre, some faded but attractive public areas, good liesure facilities, better than average bedroom,, nice and clean all round. One drawback, scalding hot water unable to control which made use difficult.6 Main complaint is that we were basically as tourists, but reception staff were not geared up for it.The general standard of English among the desk staff was inadequate. More to the point they knew hardly anything about the city, its attractions or its transport systems.Impossible to obtain accurate directions to anywhere. Reception staff were so impersonal that one approached them with trepidation, and we hover around the desk until the one who spoke the best English was free! Worst however where the draconian payment rules! Paying with a DEBIT CARD, not ojlymdid we have to pay the FULL amount for our 4 night stay in advance, but asked to pay £100 up front in case we had any"extras" all this before we received our keys! Any monies overpaid could take 4 weeks to be repaid! Think twice before before booking here Think twice hefore staying here. Collapse

This hotel looks like it used to be awesome. It is in a great spot and the staff are attentive. However, the whole thing feels a bit like a museum piece. The communal areas reminded me of Chatham. Once Royal, shiny, up market and extravagantly top of the range. Now worn out and worn down but still buffing itself up and doing it's best. Ok, could be worse, but could be better with a massive modernization. Collapse
