Moments from the eastern shores of Lake Windermere and set in seven acres of beautiful secluded gardens and woodland lies Briery Wood Country House Hotel. This beautiful Lake District hotel is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a country house atmosphere with all the comforts of home, while surrounded by spectacular landscapes, lakes and fells. Briery Wood is within easy reach of the popular villages of Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere, so it's a great base for exploring the Lake District, whether you are looking for a spot of retail therapy or outdoor adventure.
We want to ensure you have a really good night’s sleep when you stay with us. From the comfy beds and crisp linen to the deep baths, aromatic toiletries and fluffy towels…our bedrooms have been designed with no-one else but you in mind. So, after a gentle lakeside stroll, a more ambitious bike ride or a day exploring what the Lake District has to offer, you can head back to the sanctuary of your room and have a soothing hot bath. After your slumber, you’ll probably find it hard to tear yourself away from your bed to come down for breakfast…but as our guests keep telling us, it’s definitely worth the effort! Though, we don’t mind bringing breakfast up to you if you feel like being pampered.
We believe in celebrating the region you live in and embracing all that is special and unique about the area. Food heroes like the local farmer, fisherman and butcher are the key to our homegrown and local philosophy. At Briery Wood, you can enjoy the very best local produce the Lake District has to offer from tender Herdwick lamb and spicy Cumberland sausage to freshly caught trout and Morecambe Bay potted shrimps, local asparagus and Cumbrian cheeses and chutneys. The onsite restaurant has a 1 AA rosette.

Had an excellent 3 night stay in this pretty hotel. Public areas feature pleasant countrified decor, a good bar and restaurant and the most beautiful grounds. We were upgraded to a garden room upon arrival, patio and table and chairs lovely for enjoying views of grounds. Room had very large comfortable double, was well furnished and had copious storage room. Excellent cleanliness. Bathroom a trifle dated, but good powerful shower? Breakfast was generous, good choice of cooked offerings, plus continental. Had a few probs with coffee/ toast orderings on 2 mornings, slight slip in staff training? Restaurant menu is limited and bar meals stop 6.30. Shame as it meant we ate out for 2 of our evenings. A more extensive menu/ more frequent changes/ later bar menu would have allowed us to eat in a little more. Final word- staff are wonderful. A great country hotel. Collapse

Great service with staff going the extra mile to accommodate us, especially as my sister is quite a demanding customer. Prices were very reasonable, bathroom toiletries nice, rooms clean and fresh. Would happily stay again

We booked a short break here to get away from it all for a couple of days somewhere reasonably close to home. We stayed in room 14 which has what I would call a 'Lake Glimpse through the mature and beautifully kept hotel gardens. Overall, the hotel was very well presented and in a good state of decoration. All the staff were very friendly, especially those who served our breakfast. My wife is vegetarian, and she reckons that it is the best vegetarian cooked breakfast she had ever had! We also had an evening meal at the hotel on our first night - it was beautifully presented and very enjoyable. We'd read some previous review which said that the cost of drinks at the bar was expensive however we found them very reasonable at £8.50 for two drinks, and much cheaper than many hotels we've stayed in. Anyway, to sum up: we enjoyed it so much that we've just bought a voucher to go back again. Collapse

Visited for afternoon tea. Food was excellent and came away with a doggy box with the cakes we could not eat. Service was great with regular offers of more pots of tea. Worth the visit. Tasty sandwiches.

Whilst we had stayed in the sister hotel before( Merewood) we hadn't been here. First impressions very good ...receptionist very pleasant and helpful . Room(5) was good , nice size ( for a short break )and I think quite recently refurbished , big (very comfy ) bed comfy pillows and lovely bathroom . Modern TV and all the usual nice T&C making facilities.Free wifi which I hardly used but nice to have . We were on a Secret Escapes deal and I suppose one knows you don't get the best rooms .This was up a few steps but due to lie of the ground was in fact ground level Consequently we had no view ,which, if anyone was new to the Lakes ( we are there regularly) would be more disappointed to see a waist high wall with a 7 foot high hedge within 4feet of your window .That's the disappointing aspect .Everything else was very good Very quiet ,clean and lovely helpful staff.Special mention to Margaret and Magda but all very good incl housekeeping. We had afternoon tea on arrival , the sun had just come out and the garden was beautiful and a great sheltered spot for the garden furniture ...food was lovely but we couldn't manage it all and as we were having dinner there at 8 , Margaret kindly packaged the cakes we left and gave us them the next morning ( We had them sat in car with a coffee later that day ) Dinner was lovely , nice amounts, cooked and presented very well . Hotel was quiet and few in for dinner but we were told almost fully booked ( shown to be the case next morning at breakfast ) Breakfast was excellent , made to order and served to you ...no tepid buffets here ....but nor did we have any long waits . On this 2nd day ,part of the deal was to have a cream tea but we had booked to go to the Merewood for its Taster Menu (sep review ).In order to save ourselves we cancelled the cream tea . Reception organised the taxi for us to The Merewood as it was showery and too far to walk in rain and dark .....but remember Taxis are more expensive in the Lakes than in towns and cities. Breakfast on morning 2 was again excellent . We can definitely recommend this hotel and from previous experience its sister hotels The Merewood and Craigwood . It is very conveniently situated , just off main A591 and close to the main Lakes tourist areas ...Windermere, Bowness, Ambkeside, Grasmere etc. Drive up to Borrowdae &then Keswick took us about 45 mins Collapse
