Stayed here one night, room was clean and tidy, staff was very friendly and printed a document I forgot for my day trip. I did not use the restaurant as only stayed one night but looked nice, lovely views in the morning.

We arrived at 10.30pm on Friday night, the lady who checked us in was lovely. The room upon first inspection seems fine, the bed was reasonably comfortable although the pillows were a bit flat. The sink in the bathroom took ages for the water to drain away and the toilet flush was inadequate. The breakfast was expensive but edible, we weren't offered any tea or coffee. We arrived back after a day at Thorpe park at 8.15pm and immediately tried to get a table in the restaurant. The slim shaven headed waiter was very rude and unhelpful, he ignored us whilst we stood asking about a table then proceeded to tell us that they stopped serving food at 9.45. We then chose our own table and sat down, we were completely ignored sat there so went up to the bar to order our own drinks. The barman was very apologetic and came over to take our food order. The food was nice although I had bones in my chicken pie. At no point during our meal were we asked if everything was OK or we needed anything. After finishing the meal we waited a while for someone to come take the plates or offer a desert menu. It didn't happen. We then went up to our room and whilst getting ready for bed i noticed the toilet was blocked, I turned around and discovered the bath was also full of dirty toilet water, complete with poo floaters. I went back down to reception to report the problem and the manager and another staff member came back up and attempted to solve the problem. He then informed us that he needed to ring a plumber. This was around 10.30pm. He said he'd keep us informed. At 11pm I rang reception and was told he would let me know in 20minutes. At 11.30 I went down to reception to find out what was happening. The manager didn't seem to know who I was at first until I asked what was happening. He then said he was still waiting for a plumber to return his call and if not we would have to be moved to a new hotel. At midnight he returned up to our room and offered a full refund but we'd have to stay in our room with no working bathroom. As it was late we decided this was our only option. The next morning we got up and packed as quickly as possible. Upon check out our refund was processed quickly and I sat in reception waiting for our friends from another room. Whilst waiting the staff opening talked in public about the situation and us getting a refund and then went upstairs to look at the room, one girl even shouted for the other to 'get a photo' of it all so she could see it. Very humiliating for me and very unprofessional of them! Whatever happened to discretion! It was a very disappointing end to an otherwise lovely weekend away. Collapse

My view of staying here is mixed, some good points and some bad. Starting with the positives: Good location, friendly staff, reasonable food (cod with lentils and the pavolva are recommended) , good breakfast buffet at the weekend. The negatives: Breakfast on a weekday had much less choice and although it was good that breakfast was cooked to order it was small, I expected more than half a tomato with breakfast, pre made tea in an insulated is one of my pet hates. The rooms. Our room was clean, ok it had a view of the car park but I hadn't paid for a superior room so I'm not complaining , it was large with enough seating so that you didn't have to sit on the bed to watch tv. The problem is that the rooms have paper thing walls and when people walk around in the room above it sounds like a heard of elephants. We were lucky the people in the room above us walked around a little when they went to bed, but that was all, our friends were less lucky. They asked to be moved after the 1st night if the people above were staying because the noise had continued through the night but instead they were told to ring the night porter if they had a problem. They did that on the 2nd night, but the noise didn't improve and in the end they left at 1am and drove home. Collapse
