Our trip with Superbreak was seamless. Booking online with them is simple and easy. We travelled from London to Newton Abbot by train and picked up our hire car right by the station. On arrival at the hotel the team at Bovey Castle take care of everything. The hotel is in a beautiful setting with easy access to main roads to discover the rest of the county. I'd highly recommend as a short break. Collapse

Firstly I was annoyed that when I checked in the receptionist said the cost of the room out loud in front of my other half, the evening was a surprise and I didn't want her to know the cost. Just present the bill, why on earth would you announce it? Facilities are OK, however when we went for a swim post 17:00, children only allowed in the pool between 09:00-17:00, a nice touch, pool looked like it had just hosted a children's party, towels left over most of the seating with no one else in the pool, it's small but not what you would expect considering the price. Hot tub is part of the pool so same temperature. The changing rooms were very tired, signs of damp and paint work peeling off lots of the doors. Final nail in the coffin was to find out the breakfast wasn't included in a £369 a night room? Really?! Hard to justify why it's not. Plus points; stunning scenery and a great room, valet staff were excellent and very helpful. Amazing location but bear in mind it is a golf course rather than just amazing grounds. Most of the hotel is finished to a high standard. Would I stay here again, not as a couple for the price. It’s a shame as the location is incredible. Bovey Castle should decide its target audience, is it couples for a luxury break, a golf resort, a place to go for stunning food or a family hotel. Stop trying to achieve it all and get some focus. As a surprise for my Mum’s 80th Birthday, I took her to BOVEY CASTLE and we stayed at this beautiful hotel with its magnificent grounds for one night. The Castle is set in magical surroundings and the Castle itself is just spectacular, an excellent place to get lost and relax amongst the grandeur of ancient Victorian Castle walls. The whole staff at this hotel made our stay not only unforgettable but also exceptional: from the moment we arrived until we left the next morning the elegant luxury and friendly staff looked after us with such professionalism and discreet friendliness which made it hard for us to leave. The overall service was excellent: fresh milk in the room to make tea and coffee, complimentary Sloe Gin made at the castle as a welcome was a lovely surprise as was the tea and sweets for my mum to enjoy! Our Castle Room was very spacious, well decorated and extremely clean and the bed was ever so comfortable! The huge bathroom was equipped with a grand magnificent bathtub and also with a walk-in (rain-)shower, all amenities provided such as slippers, bathrobes, toiletries. We had a walk around the beautifully maintained grounds before we left, enjoyed the excellent food in the main restaurant as well as the Brasserie and the free falconry demo was an entertaining bonus, too! I really hope to get back one day to Dartmoor and enjoy another magical stay at this Castle hotel. Collapse

Our annual family trip to the West Country started well with an early start out of Surrey and comfortable easy drive to our chosen destination Bovey Castle . On arrival into the estate over the cattle grid we were pleasantly impressed with the beautiful grounds and imposing building but this unfortunately was going to be the best of it The guys on the door are all quite Young in ridiculous outfits and were clearly just about putting up with the clientele, no sooner had I parked one of these guys approached me and told me that if you were staying for more than a day you could not park at the front of the hotel and he need my keys to move my car . I asked the reason why my car was any different to all the other cars parked with me to which he replied they were all going to be moved , ok I replied but not now as I'm tired and have to grab a coffee and relax however I was again told that it had to be moved now . So in I jumped and drove my car in the direction I was told and was shocked to find I space that wasn't ideal to the rear of the hotel 400 yards from the entrance. It was a mess with flies bins and some kind of workshop , not at all the arrival I expected. my wife had checked in without me and with all the nonsense re parking I had no idea what room I was in , I asked one of the guys on the door with attitude and was told the room number followed by " write it on your hand so you don't forget " . How rude was that . To finish this rant about the parking I would like to point out that none of the other cars moved as I noted them and it turned out that the dinner guests who weren't staying apparently have parking priority over stating guest who also dine ???? Pathetic snobbery for local rich golfers . The hotel has parking issues be warned . Ok on with the other stuff . The gym ..without doubt the worst I've ever seen almost laughable . Didn't get my kit out of my bag . Pool steam and sauna dated . Smiths resturant very good with nice terrace . Other resturant stuffy dated and pretentious ( front of house girl very pleasant and helpful btw ) Putting green good fun as was the fly fishing ( missed the shot gun clay pigeon shoot as I was moving my car around for the dinner guests ) The hotel is more of a old type boarding school than a castle and it's tired . We were fed up we left a day early and almost cheered driving out the gate . Oh and I almost forgot ..the place is seriously haunted ...in our roon we had doors closing on their own and the lights going on and off in the night ...I'm not kidding . Very creepy Collapse
What a charming place!

From the moment we arrived at Bovey Castle we were so spoilt and cared for. From Simon at the door who took our bags to our room and parked our car, to the room service who gave us delicious fudge and the weather forecast for the next day. We had a lovely walk around the grounds before dinner - everything so green and unspoilt. We pretended to play golf calling it Golfick - kicking the golf balls with our feet into the holes! Dinner and breakfast were both superb. Wines rather pricey but that was easy enough to forgive. All the staff were so polite and friendly. Can't wait to return. Collapse
