Our trip with Superbreak was seamless. Booking online with them is simple and easy. We travelled from London to Newton Abbot by train and picked up our hire car right by the station. On arrival at the hotel the team at Bovey Castle take care of everything. The hotel is in a beautiful setting with easy access to main roads to discover the rest of the county. I'd highly recommend as a short break. Collapse

We had a great stay here as a family of five staying in two interconnecting rooms. The refurbished rooms were luxurious and comfortable, and the grounds around the hotel were simply beautiful. The kids loved the swimming pool and the staff were all extremely obliging and friendly. The quality of food was very high and we had a particularly memorable beef Wellington in the fine dining restaurant. I have to mention, however, some strange and inconsistent aspects of the overall service which I hope that Bovey notes. We ordered some room service one evening for the kids. It came quickly and the food was great, but the tray wasn't removed for hours. I noted that this was a theme throughout the hotel with one tray having breakfast items on it still left outside a room when we were going out for dinner! This is poor, not to mention unhygienic. Breakfast service could be a bit chaotic. On one morning we had to order our tea and coffee three times and wait over 15mins for it to arrive. It was quite frustrating. There was also no bread available which I thought was strange. You could order toast but I can't recall ever having breakfast at a similar class hotel (and we have stayed at loads) where there isn't bread available. We booked a babysitter through the hotel reception (Julia - she was fantastic) and they told us that they would confirm. They never did so I visited reception myself to check. They confirmed at this point and told me they would call the room when she arrived that evening. They didn't - she just came straight up to the room. This was fine but it would be good to have an accurate account of what's happening. Our rooms werent ready by check in time (3pm) and we had to wait another 30mins. This was ok but we had to wait a further 45mins for our luggage to be sent up (and this was only after chasing). Bearing in mind that we had a 7-month old baby with us, this caused a bit of needless stress. I hope that this feedback is taken as constructive as this place could be perfect. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it, but hope that the service smooths a little so as not to diminish the overall Bovey experience. Collapse

On arrival at the hotel we were met by a parking valet. On entering the castle we were impressed by the beautiful rooms carefully restored. Reception staff were great and we were given an upgrade to a grand state room. Simply amazing suite with a large bedroom and bathroom and a living room, all with fantastic views. It was decorated to a high standard and there was tea/coffee facilities, the most amazing homemade oat cookies and sherry in the room. We had a tv in the living room and one in the bedroom. We had dinner in the hotel. Very expensive but beautifully served with great staff. The people at the table next to us had the Beef Wellington and it looked so good. Be aware it is £20 for a started and £30-£35 for mains. Nice choice of wines. Good breakfast if a bit limited in terms of fruit. You can order what you want - eggs, fish, black pudding and there is a hot buffet which has bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages, mushrooms, beans and tomatoes. The grounds are lovely to walk round and the views are spectacular. We don't play golf but the castle has its own golf course. The only negative is the brasserie which is why I haven't given it five stars. We had a late lunch in the brasserie and after standing waiting to be seated for five minutes we were finally shown to a table. The place was almost empty. Food was ok but we were overcharged and rather than refund us the overcharge (turns out we were given the wrong menu) they deducted the service charge. We complained to reception and they sorted it out but the manager in the brasserie was ill mannered and ignored us while the waitress went off to find the correct menu and prices. Not what you would expect in a five star hotel. Service charge of 12.5% is automatically added to everything , drinks are pricey but we really enjoyed the experience. Staff in the hotel are very good and very attentive. Worth a visit but be prepared to pay premium prices. Collapse

I fell in love with Bovey castle the first time I went there around 6 years ago! The feeling you get just being in the building is wonderful! I have been a few times now on both business and pleasure and it has on times been a little..... let's say less satisfactory than usual but some things are out of the control of the hotel and staff (it's down to some guests and alcohol) the last visit we had was the first since the change in ownership and unfortunately it was clearly noticed that there had been a change in ownership. It is almost like the magic had gone a little, the staff were a little less accommodating but overall was still enjoyable! My now husband proposed to me there so it will always hold a special place in my heart regardless! Collapse
