Our trip with Superbreak was seamless. Booking online with them is simple and easy. We travelled from London to Newton Abbot by train and picked up our hire car right by the station. On arrival at the hotel the team at Bovey Castle take care of everything. The hotel is in a beautiful setting with easy access to main roads to discover the rest of the county. I'd highly recommend as a short break. Collapse

Booked last minute here and luckily they had one room left. rooms are spacious and very comfortable, check in was very easy and staff very pleasant and helpful. Booked a table in the Smiths restaurant for 8.30pm and was seated upon arrival, however, this is where it went downhill! We were offered no bread to begin with despite there being side plates, We ordered our food and after asking if it was on its way after 50 minutes we were told the restaurant was very busy, no apologies, nothing. The head waiter trotted off to get our food and brought back my fish pie which was delicious and a "medium" fillet steak which when eventually arrived was dry and over cooked. When we mentioned it to the head waiter he argued with us and said that to his knowledge, medium was pink in the middle and the steak was in fact pink in the middle. it was a very slight pink so would describe this as medium to well done and not what we had asked for, it was definitely overcooked, again no apology, at this point, the bread arrived after our main. When the new steak arrived it was perfect, juicy and pink in the middle just as we originally asked for. The waiter came over and asked if it was ok to which we replied, perfect and is medium cooked. He then laughed in our face and made us feel as if we had made the whole thing up. Very slow service and very rude waiter made a disappointing evening for us. The manager did come over and apologised on his behalf for which we were grateful and knocked 10% off the food bill but think that a course in customer service for this particular waiter is in order to make this restaurant a nicer experience. Very sad that one person can affect your stay and opinion of such a beautiful place. Collapse

I recently organised a large event for work and Bovey Castle was our evening accommodation. I knew that it was good but i underestimated how good it was! I was so impressed from my initial dealings, to arrival- everything was so smooth, the attention to detail was incredible and it was a true luxury to be able to stay there. Check in was simple. My room was absolutely stunning with complimentary gin and everything you could possibly need. Despite the bad weather during our stay, the grounds were absolutely stunning and the castle itself was so interesting, i could have wondered around exploring all day. The food was sensational and the service was also superb. Breakfast was brilliant- so much choice, all fresh and tasty and again the service maintained to an excellent standard. Even with poor weather, the falconry was brought indoors by a very enthusiastic man who showcased a huge eagle and a beautiful owl. I worried that guests (myself included) may feel intimidated or out of place at such a prestigious venue, but it was quite the opposite- staff were friendly and the whole hotel had a relaxing and peaceful ambience leaving us all coming away with smiles on our faces! I would love to attend in a personal capacity- if i can afford it! What a wonderful experience from start to finish!! :) Collapse

We just wanted to thank the team for a truly lovely afternoon at Bovey Castle, only enhanced by the wonderful sunny weather out on the terrace. A special mention must be made of the fact that our vegan & gluten free dietary requirements were catered for so well - fantastic offerings both sweet and savoury (and definitely the best GF scones to date!!) The staff were friendly and welcoming, and all contributing to our fantastic experience. We will be back!! Collapse

Played here about 7-8 years ago - had good memories of the course. The course was in excellent condition this time around as well - beautifully set up - challenging in areas - thoroughly enjoyable. I would've given an "excellent" rating, however the golf seems to be a secondary priority - the Pro Shop has been moved downstairs with little to look at (assuming there wasn't a shop elsewhere in the building) - the staff were excellent and attentive in the shop and elsewhere. We wanted to have a breakfast - but there was confusion between the two eateries to where to place us - in the end we had a bacon roll and coffee for £10 each! If it was me (and I am biased being a golfer!), I would promote the golf a little more and also provide breakfasts for them in the future. All in all a great day. Collapse
