We stayed here on points so we should not really grumble. We stayed over Remembrance Weekend. The hotel hotel was fine and the sports club and spa excellent. However we both found the fact that none of the staff were wearing a poppy and there were none for sale at the desk slightly offensive or at least lacking in attention to detail or knowledge of local events and what is important in life. There were also one or two things which reflected a similar lack of attention. The plates were cold at breakfast, some of the staff were somewhat less than interested and the front desk staff lacked knowledge of the local area. I found out where the local Remembrance Sunday Ceremony was being held from the staff at the next door Thai Restaurant. What could have been a 5 star review, and should have been is not. Collapse

I stayed here a couple of weeks ago with a group of Mum friends for a weekend away. We were put in inter-connecting rooms in the cottages which was perfect. After a few emails back and forth (saying they would only provide 4 breakfasts when there were 5 of us?!), we were greeted with complimentary champagne and chocolates in the room by way of apology. We spent the afternoon in the pool/spa area, lovely and relaxing. We then had afternoon cream tea in the hotel bar which was delicious, and staff were very attentive. In the cottages themselves, the heating was very erratic, and some of the lights were broken; however someone did come to fix one of the lamps when we asked for it to be repaired. All in all, I had a good nights' sleep. The shower curtain needed a good clean, and general maintenance of the rooms need attention but they were clean. Breakfast was also delicious, hot and plentiful. We were treated very well during our stay and I would consider staying here again - if for the sea views at breakfast alone! Collapse

The front entrance, lobby and bar are lovely. We were put in the Dorchester Suite. The rooms in this building are behind the main hotel with no views. The rooms are very dated. The heating doesn’t work properly, we had 100 rooms booked out all of those in this building complained of being cold and the heating not being adequate, being noisy and then suddenly coming on and boiling us. The duvets were very small and thin which didn’t help with the cold. The pillows were dreadful, we piled all 4 on top of each other and still struggled. The standard of cleaning wasn’t superb either. Ok let’s move to the bar and restaurant-it’s a franchise so the Hotel have little control over it. It has fantastic sea views but it closes, regardless of the fact there are people in there and it’s not negotiable. After a conference dinner we had people ordering room service drinks in the lobby rather than the bar. We are in the bar twice, the bread on our sandwiches was stale, the fries were cold, this was a late afternoon. We were persuaded by the bar man to try again in the evening, the fries were hot the steaks so cold the garlic butter dabbed on never melted. Truly best advice don’t eat in the bar. Breakfast was also cold on the buffet. Get fresh cooked omelettes or porridge is my advice. I liked the staff but this hotel needs serious updating of many rooms and the food needs to be warm! Arrived and was greeted at the reception Very well check in was very good My room was very nice with sea view little tired but clean Decided to eat in the restaurant Was pleasantly surprised how good the service was and the quality of the food great wine great food great service Sadly the following night decided to try the bar big mistake ordered the steak baguette steak was barely warm bread was stale very hard . fries good but they should have been The bar staff seemed more interested in chatting rather than looking after customers only customers 3 staff I complains to the female waitress She said I will speak to my manager After 15 min no one came near me I just walked out I could see no one was interested On check out I spoke to the gentleman behind the desk as he asked if I enjoyed my stay Relayed to him as I have written above He said I will speak to my manager gave me the bill for me to pay no offer to remove the cost of the food I just paid and left It was not worth making a issue of £10 It’s a shame that the staff did not do more I think the manager should look at sorting out the bar staff and Service As the restaurant food and service where excellent Mike cobb Collapse
