This was a very special long weekend break for my elderly frail parents. 1. It was extremely expensive and prices didn't include the £12 per day parking charges. We have a blue badge and there aren't enough spaces in the car park and people have parked their luxury cars in disabled spaces without blue badges. 2. Our room wasn't cleaned/serviced at all on the 1st day. 3. Today we went out and came back for an afternoon nap at 3pm and despite my husband calling the reception an hour before to make sure our room was serviced this time, we came back to find that yet again it hadn't been cleaned. No compensation has been offered and we would definitely not recommend this hotel. The staff are friendly but there just aren't enough of them. There are lots of other minor complaints that all add up to make this a disappointing stay for the money paid. Collapse
WoW what did they spend the refurb money on?

For the last 18 months I've been staying at the Hilton, but today I moved back to the Marriott excited by the £1,000,000 they had spend on a refurb. To start with I stood at reception for 20 mins waiting to get my room key despite checking in online, when I asked the girl in reception to get someone else to help deal with the backlog... I was told "she's on the phone" I got a room in the 3rd floor... and the lift was out of order - great. The toilet flushes for every... it may even still be going. And after spending all that money, there is no facility to charge a electric car (great way to modernise) l. I really can't tell what they have done, it looks as old and tired as ever. Looks like I'll be moving back to the Hilton. Really not impressed at all, and I've not even tried the breakfast yet. Collapse

Old school charm but rooms in need of a serious refurbishment.

We stayed in Bournemouth for the evening as we we're collecting my grandparents from a cruise in Southampton the next day. I'm an avid fan of Marriott hotels so I booked this hotel due to its location and the brand. We parked the car in the on site car park and there was plenty of space and made our way to reception. The staff at the desk we're extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We asked for extra pillows to be delivered to the room and this was handled immediately. The public areas in the hotel are beautiful and look like they have been recently refurbished. Check in was seamless and we soon had the keys and directed to the lift. We we're allocated room 400 which had a side sea view through a window. This is where the usual Marriott experience was lacking. Although the room was spotlessly clean and the bed was the usual excellent standard, the room was very tired. The wallpaper was peeling from the wall, there was no netting or blinds for privacy when the curtains were open, missing handles from cupboards, carpet was tatty and the bathroom was something from the 90's. Our window was also covered in hand marks from people who had been standing in the window that was never cleaned when requested. I know that you book a hotel for the whole experience but as the room makes up quite a lot of it It was disappointing for the amount of money i'd paid. We used the leisure club in the hotel which was excellent, towels were provided and the facilities we're spotless. We used the indoor/outdoor pools, sauna and steam room. Very good. Brasserie Blanc was superb, drinks in the evening are very reasonably priced, the outside heated terrace was excellent and great for the sea views. Bar staff are very attentive and provide excellent service. Breakfast was included in the room rate in Brasserie Blanc and was extensive. Superb full English with plenty of other continental options and fruit juices. Wonderful surrounding and comfy furniture to enjoy breakfast. Overall a great stay but commanding a £170 per night cost for the room was a little salty with the state the room was in. Collapse

I stayed for one night at this hotel and found it to be excellent. I enjoyed a huge Cottage room which I assume was an upgrade. The room was stunning and very comfortable. I ate out but visited the newly refurbished bar which was excellent and had a great selection of drinks served by the staff that knew all about them. I was very impressed by the bar manager and his knowledge. Breakfast was excellent with a good selection and very attentive staff. Would I stay again? Yes ! Collapse
