We have been visiting this hotel for many many years. To say it has gone downhill is an understatement. We stayed in May massive disruption due to building works. We're promised it would all be worth it! Well it is was not. The only restaurant is the new much heralded Maison Banc restaurant. Well if you don't mind eating in a bistro style restaurant, even for breakfast, a menu which is the same every day...fine. We however prefer a quite relaxing atmosphere especially in the morning. The breakfast experience in particular was a nightmare. Tables crammed in, self service buffet, make your own toast, if you can get near the one small family size toaster that is!!You can order from your table, however more often than not your order is misinterpreted so you don't get what you ordered. Room service is also provided by MB same menu again! Really thought they would be upgrading the rooms during the recent works, but no. They are all well p0ast it and in dire need of upgrading. Room service is also very hit and miss, one of the other guest told us they had requested room service and supplies, ie loo rolls tissues towels etc., to no avail, ended up having to go to shop to buy loo rolls etc. Sadly after many years of staying here, will be staying elsewhere in future. We had the misfortune of having to stay in the Doncaster building where the family suites are situated. The entire building is dirty, worn out and smelled. The hallway furniture was the stuff on nightmares with visible stains and no staff anywhere. The room was gross and we were greeted to a pair of dirty work boots sitting in the closet. The beds were totally worn out and slopping. The pull out sofa bed was shocking, my kids barely slept and I went through the entire mattress just trying to sit down to read my children a bedtime story. The carpet was dirty, the bathroom was literally crumbling with stains on the ceiling and walls. This was totally unacceptable for a Marriott and was the worst I've seen in the world! For 500 Pounds for 2 nights we should have been given far higher quality accommodations. I guess it's our fault for having kids as we could have been furnished a room in the lovely updated new main building, shame on us right? Parking is a joke, we had to use the local car park for the first night which cost 18 Pounds and we had to carry our luggage for about a 5 minute walk. On the last night we found a space in your tiny lot which still cost 12 Pounds a day. Was told this was because they share the lot with other businesses. Why not just buy some damn spaces so your guests can park like normal human beings? For the prices you charge you should have acceptable parking! Won't be back or using Marriott again in a hurry. The Highcliffe Hotel warrants its 4 Star rating for the position of the hotel and the amenities on offer. Although some sections of the hotel have a very tired look about them. However, the MAJOR negative is the security on offer at the Leisure Club. My husband had his wallet stolen from a "secure" locked locker, and sadly do not expect too much, if any help from senior staff. Even though they had a similar incident prior to my husband's loss, they were not prepared to notify the police that they had a theft (or thefts). We will not be staying there again! Collapse

I booked last minute as I live not too far away and fancied a weekend at the beach with my little boy. The weather was due to be lovely so I booked this hotel purely due to its location. Check in was quick and efficient, our room was adequate but dated. The bathroom again was dated but clean, the towels were clean but could do with replacing as they just looked past their best. The bed was comfy and the bedding was very clean and good quality. The room was pretty clean but other parts of the hotel need a good clean, i saw some filthy skirting boards, also I saw quite a lot of coffee cups, chocolate wrappers etc lying around, its like the staff walk past rubbish and don't think to pick it up. I get that customers should find a bin and not leave it lying around in the first place but we all know some people think its perfectly acceptable to leave their rubbish and expect someone else to clear it up for them. The carpets in the hallways need replacing, they are very worn in parts and some of the corridors just smell old and musty. We used the leisure club, both the inside and outside pools. Changing rooms need a good clean and the cushions on the loungers round the pools need throwing in the bin and replacing. There was also rubbish around the outdoor pool. The indoor pool was clean but the outdoor pool needed a refurb and good clean. We ordered breakfast in our room and it was fine. They do seem to be doing some work to this hotel, hopefully all the points mentioned above will be addressed. I would stay here again as the location is perfect and my actual room was clean. I probably wouldn't stay for more than one night though. I would also check my room thoroughly before unpacking my things as I think I was lucky to get a really clean room last time. Collapse
