Nom nom nom.... Fabulous old inn with wonderful old worldy decor, a fantastic selection of cask ales and ridiculously good food!! We are in the coach house, had the seafood crumble and wild boar pie, followed by the most sublime sticky toffee pudding and a bottle of SA Sauvignon Blanc. To be fair, food doesn't often come better. The seafood crumble was divine and the wild boar tender, flavoursome and in a red wine sauce. If you are in Caernarfon, and looking for food.... don't look elsewhere! Amazing .... seriously amazing!! Collapse

Just returned from another great stay at the Black Boy Inn. We worked out it was our seventh visit and have stayed in seven different equally pleasant rooms - just thirty one others to try! This time we booked into Black Jacks behind the inn. Our room was very comfortable and clean with adequate space for our clothes and a good shower. The only downside was you have to walk outside across to the Inn itself, only a few hundred yards but in the rain is worth mentioning, although they had brollies hanging up by the front door which was a nice thought. There are also no lifts in the building, although there are ground floor rooms to book if you need them. Breakfast is served in the front dinning room or coach house dependent on space, and was varied in choice. We ate lunch and dinner in the bar and restaurant, there is an excellent choice on the menu and our food was very nice. We were also in the bar for our two evenings, and the locals were friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed watching the WalesvEngland Rugby match - the atmosphere was brilliant. Thank you Black Boy for another great stay. Collapse

My traveling companion and I, two senior Americans, checked into the Black Boy Inn without a reservation on a January evening after a long day of driving. Right away, we learned how accommodating the staff could be. We were offered parking in a small on site parking lot (er, car park) and when we had trouble with the key code a passing staff person was quick to come over and punch it in for us. Back in the hotel, we followed a rabbit warrant of narrow, but well marked, hallways (what fun!) to our room. We required twin accommodations and so our room was not one of the spectacular four poster ones featured on the website site. However, it was quite comfortable and very clean, with a very nice, modern bathroom, two desks, and coffee and tea service with biscuits. I must say that the charge for this cozy room , with breakfast, was very reasonable. We slept well. So well, in fact, that we totally missed the breakfast service which was included with our room charge. Before going downstairs, we decided that we liked the hotel so much that we would stay another night, using it for a base for exploration of Caernarfon and the surrounding area. When my companion stopped at reservations to make this request, the receptionist realized that we had missed breakfast. She immediately took us into the bar and offered us our choice from the full "public" menu. We must not go out without our Welsh breakfast! While exploring, we met a fellow on the street who recognized us as tourists and stopped us to make sure we were finding our visit to our satisfaction. He recommended a drive around the Lynn Peninsula (which we had already discussed) and even wrote down some places we should not miss. So friendly and helpful, these citizens of North Wales!!!! We rose early enough to enjoy another generous breakfast, in the guest breakfast room this time, and set off on the next leg of our adventure. Both of us have the most pleasant memories of the care we received at the Black Boy Inn and from citizens and merchants in Caenarfon. We adored the hotel and the town and would highly recommend both to any travelers planning to spent a night in this area. Collapse
