Lovely sea view, friendly staff. Rooms were comfortable with everything you needed. The only dislike for me was the coffee at breakfast, however the selection of items for the continental breakfast was excellent. We paid an extra £4 one of the days for a cooked breakfast, which was well cooked and tasty. I would happily have paid a supplement for some fresh coffee We enjoyed our stay very much and will definitely return. Collapse

I was very disappointed with this hotel as it doesnt look like the pictures, the first room they gave me was too smal to fit the travel cot in with a very small bathroom too very outdated! but eventually changed to a bigger room which was still very outdated but had more space, i was travelling with a baby so it was good to the fact they changed the room but you could hear everything from next door and upstairs and i mean everything, the movement of walking beds and windows shutting, i honestly wouldnt advise this hotel if you want a silent night, the mattresses were so noisy to even roll over on definately not staying here again! The Big Sleep Hotel in Eastbourne is I believe one of three sites of hotels bearing this name (Cardiff and Cheltenham) and now run by the Compass Hospitality group. The hotel boasts an enviable position right on the seafront. We were able to park immediately and easily outside in the road, and for £1 from the hotel, issued a 12 hour parking voucher - good value for money! We arrived much earlier than the 3pm checking in time - we drove all the way down from Liverpool - a 6 hour drive and arrived at 11am. We decided to have a drink at the 'modest' bar up from reception, and eventually the receptionist informed us that for an extra £10 we could have our suite earlier. He gave us our key around 20 minutes later and we were in by 11.30am. Do I suspect the suite was easily available and made up from when we arrived (after all the hotel was far from busy) and the £10 add on ploy was unnecessary? Yes - but then I guess the hotel knew we would prefer to gain access sooner than later! The actual hotel is indeed 'dated' in terms of décor. It appears to have set it's theme on the 1960's and 1970's period - mods and rockers, scooters and the Beatles. In our room one picture featuring a collage of 15 pictures, included all the fore-mentioned, but one photograph had Big Ben with the London Eye included! Work out where the London Eye was in the 60'/70's - nowhere! The décor of our suite was just so passé - light blue on some walls, an a multi colour striped wall paper behind the double bed. The carpet both in the corridors and our room was a motley blue/grey effect. The heavy curtains (no nets) across large windows looking out towards the sea where a ghastly light blue shag material - heavens only knows how these get cleaned with regularity. Getting the heating on in our suite on both nights was via a phone call to reception to request the heating in the hotel was switched on - one receptionist informed me that the temperature in the hotel seemed warm and therefore the heating had yet to be switched on. Clearly a system that needs looking at re saving money by allowing just certain controls flicked to allow heating to certain areas at a time. The bathroom was adequate but complementary soap was furnished in one large container and body gel/shampoo in another. A notice attached to the wall advised clientele that if either items were removed from the room, a charge of £5 per item would be charged. And I say quite right! However a much better system would be to have such dispensers attached on the wall over the bath, hand sink and shower area, that could not be removed! There was no writing paper and such like provided. And final point to be made on this suite - the plasma TV was basically fixed on a piece of furniture, whereby you had to be on or in the double bed to view it! Why stay in a suite (which was of a good size) and not be able to watch TV except from the bed! Wholly unfathomable. Continental breakfast was included in the price - adequate but for an extra £4 or £6 (larger breakfast) you could have a cooked breakfast. So enough carping from me. The price was good for when we were there for 2 nights (£65 per night for a suite - I think they had halved the price when I booked - after all it was mid November and cold), and parking as I have mentioned was easy. The staff also were very pleasant. I would stay there again, should I need a stopping place when in the UK! Collapse

We arrived in the evening with my partner checking us in. The hotel itself presents more as a hostel with some provisions being classed as a hotel offering. We were offered a parking permit by the hotel for the cost of £1, not bad but the parking on the sea front and just outside the hotel is free after 6pm till 10:30 the following day. Save your £1 coin. Having gone to our room (316) it was basic to be sure. Having worked in hotels I knew the standard I was expecting and well the cleaning hadn't been done that day. There were several hairs on the bed in the sheets and a large amount of dirt between the shower screen and wall. I understand this is difficult to clean but a toothbrush would had done it. I went down to reception to explain my issues with the room. The gent on the desk was as vacant as anything and couldn't care less, the female was more helpful so changed our room to 113. This was better than the last and we settled in. The hotel itself is warm in the corridors but sometimes cold in the room ( a heater is provided). We slept okay with the mattress being very thin. The duvet is okay. The bathroom is well equipped but it does take a long time to run a bath. But the shower is perfectly strong. We didn't take breakfast and the check out was well. I don't think we shall return but for a night it was suited Collapse
