I booked to stay here for Brighton marathon weekend. Having arrived in Brighton on the Saturday to collect my race pack I arrived at the hotel at around 6pm. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the station. Situated opposite the beach it is a brilliant location. Upon arrival I was greeted by the friendly receptionists and issued with the details for facilities and breakfast times. I explained that I would be leaving before breakfast as I was running the Brighton marathon and was offered a takeout breakfast to collect upon departure. My room was a single room situated through a corridor behind reception. It was small and basic but clean and this was all I needed. It also had very good wifi available at no extra cost. There was one other room next to mine and unfortunately the guest was very loud and I had to knock and ask her to keep the noise down. I think that the thin walls contributed to this. Upon leaving I collected my take away breakfast and was very disappointed. A nutrigrain bar, orange juice, plastic bowl with carton of milk and small pack of cereal and a frozen solid yogurt. I was only able to eat the nutrigrain bar and drink the orange juice. I do not know how I was expected to eat a bowl of cereal whilst travelling or how I could eat a yogurt that was still frozen. I expected a continental breakfast (e.g Fruit and pastry) and having explained that I was running a marathon I thought that this was be taken into consideration. I therefore had virtually no breakfast that morning. If it wasn't for the breakfast issue I would have scored this hotel an additional star. Would I stay here again? Yes but only if I was remaining in Eastbourne and not passing through. Collapse

We arrived an hour and a half early and went up to the reception to enquire about car parking. Before I'd even finished the sentence as to why we were there it was barked at us that we wasn't allowed to check in until 3... which we already knew. After paying additional money for the permit we decided to go for a walk. Upon returning back at 3 o'clock to check in and paying we were told the lift had broken but there was a service lift available. The service lift became abit of a pain during our stay as the last person to use the lift had to have closed the door for it to work. We were on the third floor so this became even more of a problem as we had to negotiate the maze of stairs on a couple of occasions. We walked along the hall to our room which smelled like urine. I work as a nurse and am quite familiar with the smell, it was definitely urine. It always exciting visiting somewhere new and you always hope for the best, the pictures looked nice on the internet and at £95 for 2 people and a dog (Which was an extra £10) you'd think that you'd get a nice clean room, not expecting the Ritz but a nice clean room. The smell of bleach was just over powering to the point that I rushed to the window to open the room. That's when I noticed the dirty curtains that looked like someone had skinned the cookie monster. One of the coffee cups had a crack and a chip in it, there was grime and dust on the chair and table legs and just generally felt and looked dirty. We left the room to give it time to air with the window open. We came back a few hours later after a nice walk to find that there were no parking spaces outside or even near the hotel. We drove around for 45 minutes (or more) and had to leave the car 10-15 minute walk up the road. The shower was nothing but a trickle as over half of the water was coming out of the tap and the bed was quite hard, the toilet nearly over flowed with every flush to the point where we decided to "hold ourselves" in the morning and go elsewhere and the bed was pretty hard!..All round experience was disappointing from the staff to the facilities. The room as stated smelt and felt unkept and didn't live up to expectations as per the pictures. At £95 a night you'd expect alot better. This is not the first place we'd stayed in with the dog infact we travel the country with him. If you advertise being dog friendly it should be dog friendly. We've never been ushered out of an eatery before and it's the first time we've paid an extra £10 A night for a dog. Still abit miffed as to how you justify that. Are peoples shoes less mucky than his paws? I doubt that. More information should be given about parking availability or unavailability as the case was. Staff puffing on cigarettes at the front door also not a great look. Would I recommend? Absolutely not. Collapse

Big Sleep - Simple Clean Cheap and friendly - definitely worth going back. Continental breakfast included. Extra payment for what looked to be a good cooked breakfast. Only there one night but a very positive experience!

We had planned to stay in Brighton while my daughter ran in the Brighton marathon 2017. But only started looking 9 months in advance and not wanting to remortgage the house we could not find anything suitable in Brighton. We then remembered that we had stayed in the Big Sleep last year and had a great value stay. So we booked online, got a great deal for all 7 of us. The hotel is a great value, clean and tidy, if getting a little dated. The breakfast in as good as anywhere we have stayed. Recommend to anyone looking for a great value family hotel to stay in.
