A quirky, budget hotel in the centre of Cheltenham provided a good base to explore the beautiful town of Cheltenham and beyond. Would happily stay again and will also look out for other hotels in this chain when booking hotels in other U.K towns/cities. The staff in particular were particularly helpful without being smarmy, which can often be the case. Collapse

My wife and I stayed here for three nights on our way down from Newcastle for a week’s holiday in Weymouth. The hotel is what it says a good budget hotel with few frills. What it does have is great staff that are very friendly and customer focused. On arrival the machine for producing the key cards was broken so we had to be escorted to our room whenever we returned to the hotel. Despite the obvious inconvenience they had called up extra staff to ensure there was no delay in getting customers into their rooms. Fortunately a replacement card machine arrived the next morning. Car parking was £7.50 a night but the car park belied the hotels origins with tight spaces flanked by pillars. It was built originally as a tax office in the 60s when everyone must have had Minis. Getting my car in and out was a nightmare. More like a 30 point turn one morning because someone had parked inconsiderately. We couldn’t get parked on the Saturday but the receptionist directed us to a nearby car park where it was free from 8pm to 10 am on the Sunday and a lot more space! The rooms are a little tired but very clean and functional. I had the best sleep in a hotel for years – maybe something to do with walking the suggested town trails but more likely the very comfortable beds and pillows. I was not expecting much from the breakfast but this would put pricier hotels to shame. Hot offerings were scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns and beans. I always judge fried breakfasts by the quality of their sausages and these were excellent. Toast, the usual cereals pastries, cheese etc. were also available. We arrived back late on the Sunday to find our room had not been cleaned but it didn’t really need it. I mentioned this on checking out to inquire whether that was usual on a Sunday, It was not and without me saying anything the receptionist deducted one of the car park charges - good customer service! Well worth the money but I agree with some of the other comments that you can’t expect 5 star facilities for 2 star money but we would return here next time if we are in the area. Collapse

Booked this for a reasonable price around £150 for 2 nights including breakfast. Arrived at around 7.30pm on a Friday popped inside to ask of there was parking was told that there maybe inside and that the man at reception would meet me at the gate of there wasn't parking there there was a few spaces at the back...waited 5mins at the gate no one came so went round the back and parked there... that's £7.50per car per night extra and parking is pretty tight in the alley. Next to check in which was fine given room 411 there is a lift but the stairs are just as quick.. try to walk down the corridors softly you'll notice how loud your steps sound! Room was compact... very strange curtains that looked like shag pile rugs?! There was a cupboard that said chill on it but no fridge inside, our first night was Friday and from 1am it was very noisy with revellers leaving from local pubs that combined with the bed that every time you turned over creaked and groaned as if it was going to break meant that I ended up trying to camp out on the bathroom floor. Taking one of the extra pillows supplied was part of my plan however after taking out of the bag realised that the pillowcase had blood marks on it. Breakfast was good self serve with choices of cereal, yoghurt, bacon, sausage, hash brown, egg, toast and some pastries. Hotels website makes it look much sleeker than what it is and sadly the big sleep was the not much sleep for me. Collapse

Stayed here recently to attend a wedding with my child. The staff were very efficient and friendly, could not fault them at all. The double room was adequate but not great. The curtains are hideous (they appear to be made from shag rugs!) and although the room was mostly clean, it was definitely tired. The desk chair was chipped, the grout between the bathroom tiles was discoloured, there were a couple of questionable marks on the inside of the bathroom bin, one of the bedside cubby holes looked like it had something melted on to it and the single glazed windows meant that you could hear the drunks shouting as they walked past at night. There were no plug sockets beside the bed so had to charge my phone on the opposite side of the room at night, which was irritating as my phone is my alarm clock. I think there should have been a mini fridge in the room as there was an empty cupboard marked 'chill' with a socket in it. Not that it made a huge difference but a fridge would have been very handy. I accept that this is a budget hotel but I am used to most hotels supplying basic toiletries e.g. Shampoo, toothpaste, shower gel, body lotion. Our room only had shower gel and charged extra for other toiletries which I thought was a bit mean. On the plus side, I found the bed to be pretty comfortable, I was pleasantly surprised to see a kettle and teabags/coffee etc in the room (considering they scrimped on toiletries) and the breakfast was decent. A selection of cereals, fruit and pastries as well as a cooked breakfast, toast etc. The location, with shops being right around the corner, was also very handy. Overall for £55 a night I got what I paid for and it wasn't horrendous but it wouldn't be my first choice of hotel chains to use again. Collapse
