Booked a one night stay at the Tillington Hall Hotel and two day pass to Alton Towers. Had good expectations of the hotel and only being 10 miles as described with Super Break. We arrived, the 3 of us, my daughter and 8 year old grandson at the hotel at 2:50pm to be told that our room wasn't ready and the receptionist rang the cleaners, we were ready for a comfort break and freshen up in the room and when I asked the same receptionist to chase up for us I was given chapter and verse in bad customer service and it was basically my fault for booking a family room with a guest bed! I did expect better attitude and service but not with this person, I hadn't booked the break that day and so the hotel were aware of our booking for over a week. We managed to get the room for 3pm but not told which floor it was on or where to go for breakfast or anything else and so very terse from the younger woman who shouldn't be on front line desk. Even when I checked out she was totally indifferent she's obviously thinks she is more important than her role provides but service with a smile and politeness costs nothing. We had to drive for over 45 mins to Alton Towers and over 23 miles each way not what was advertised, very misleading. The room on our return was very cold and there was no temperature gauge which was poor. Room clean and towers and beds ok, I slept under the window with the spare bed and very drafts with the basic glazed windows and very noisy and I distinctly requested a quiet room on a higher floor. Lots of pets staying in the rooms above which is unusual nowadays. Collapse

We arrived early on the thursday and they appolijised that our room was not ready. The room was very nice and was nice and warm which was a blessing as it very cold outside and it had snowed. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.there was a free newspaper to read every day. The food in the resturant was nice and hot even the buffet breakfast. As far as we were concerned there was just two small negitive points one was that the shower head was fixed which we do not like very much & the other one was that other than the soup the menu was the same every night although there was two menus and each had quite a few choices. I booked through the I.O.W Tours company for a weekender 16th - 19th March at Tillington Hall Hotel. We were a coachload ( 48 adults) ages ranging from 21 - 80. The hotel met with any requests before we arrived with regular e-mails promptly. The check-ins were very quickly sorted. The rooms were all off a good clean standard, nice and warm as the weekend weather was very cold and they were no complaints there, apart from the setting up off the sky tv which to be fair the staff were quite happy to assist with. We had a function room set aside for us with a bar, for the for meals and entertainment. The meals were served hot, a good choice menu and expertly cooked by the chefs. The table staff had no problem when we requested several fill ups off the water jugs either. Breakfast was self service with plenty of top-ups of toast and nothing ran out. The staff were polite and courteous at all times. The hotel is situated back from the main road so no nearby traffic noise was heard. Two minutes walk away was a row of shops ; Co-op, Coral Bookmakers ( handy for those in a group visit who fancy a cheeky bet) pharmacy and a family pub with Sky Sports) . Would definitely recommend and thank this hotel and staff to anyone. Collapse

Great location just off the motorway. Very helpful reception staff. Especially Lucy who went out of her way to sort out surprise flowers for my girlfriend and even a complementary bottle of wine. Room clean and of high standard. Thoroughly enjoyed it . However the restaurant side of the hotel was disappointing. We pre booked a traditional Sunday roast lunch for 8 people five weeks ago. We were told at the time there were three options of meat beef pork and chicken. On arrival we were told they had no beef. The waitress took our orders and also informed us that they had no Yorkshire puddings. We noticed adjacent to us there was a party who were served Yorkshire puddings and beef which surprised us. When asked why they had been offered this the waitress said they had pre booked the meal. We felt disappointed as we also had booked our table at least five weeks earlier. The point is how can you serve a Sunday roast without Yorkshire’s. Collapse

Not an unpleasant place. Staff are friendly and helpful. One of the few hotels where a single room means single room. The hotel is slightly tired and needs a revamp. More could be done to improve it and has huge potential. Room not quite clean (hairs in bath and generally worn look) this seemed more from inexperienced staff possibly. Overall does the job but less of a standard the premier inn. If you are staying on business or quick visit then it's ok. Food reasonable quality but high on prices for what you get. Later start with breakfast not starting until 07.30 Collapse
