We enjoyed our stay at Tillington Hall, room was clean on arrival, nice white linen and modern flat screen tv with sky. Breakfast buffet was well organised and plenty of choices. Car park easy access to hotel. I think it would be nice to have a few lights lining the drive way on the approach to the hotel as it was quite dark and uninviting. Apart from that an enjoyable stay. Catching up with my daughter before she headed off to live in China, I thought the Tillington would be a great place for us to chill together without three dogs demanding attention. I chose well and we had a wonderful time. What makes this hotel so good? Firstly, the staff. I say again, the staff. Professional, friendly, not in your face and the KEY point of difference about this hotel. Other plus points: the rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable; the hotel is conveniently located near M6 but tucked away from main road with space around; inside, that space is replicated with a decent terrace and lots of places to sit and relax; and finally, the food is good - breakfast absolutely stunning, bar snacks good value and well presented. Other reviews mention that this hotel is a bit 'tired'. Well, it is. But I'd rather have a comfy armchair that's been well lived in than a stark modern chair that hurts your bum. Prices reflect this - not quite a Holiday Inn but much more enjoyable than a HI Express. All in all, a fantastic escape, made all the better because the people who work there seem happy to do so and are keen to offer great service with a smile. Collapse

We had been away for a few days visiting family and arrived at Tillington Hall as the last part of our trip as we wished to visit Boscobel House, Shugborough Hall and The National Memorial Arboretum. Our room was pleasant with comfortable twin beds (that was all that was available when I booked). All staff were polite and friendly, plenty of choice at self-service breakfast, evening meals were good (apart from an overcooked Haddock). The hotel is looking a little tired in places, but really does that matter, this is three star not The Ritz! Would definitely stay again if we are visiting the area as we enjoyed our visit. Collapse

We stayed at Tillington Hall for a two night weekend stay. The hotel itself looks nice enough on approach - a decent sized car park and plentry of spaces. Check in was fairly slow, although there were quite a few people and the receptionist was working as fast as she could with a confusing group booking in front of us. The decor throughout the hotel looks a little tired although it was all clean. Our room was on the ground floor and the window opened on to a small courtyard. The room was basic but clean, as was the bathroom. We had a lovely big shower with plenty of hot water. All the staff were attentive and helpful. The breakfasts were good - however I would recommend going in earlier rather than later as we went in at about 0930 on the Sunday and it seemed that the hot food had been out a little while. We ordered a bar snack in the evening and it was really good food. We didnt use the main restaurant for an evening meal so I cannot comment on the quality of the main menu. One downside was that the staff all seemed to disappear in the evening and if you wanted serving at the bar you had to wait ages, or even go to reception and use the phone to call for service. Also, some of the staff were smoking outside the main entrance which seemed a little odd. All in all, it was a good stay, and fair value for money. Collapse
Avoid, dingy, dirty, poorly trained staff and a place to avoid

We booked two rooms, we were told these rooms were family rooms, we arrived and one room was dirty and smelly, we asked the manager/supervisor to come and take a look. The room was a double and not a family room. She cleaned the dead flies from the windowsill. The window looked out on to a wire fence that had been cut open presumably after a previous break-in or similar. A lovely view in other words.... The second room was slightly better but had a strange smell and there was mould inside the shower. When we complained at checkout they didn't really apologise and when I questioned the room sizes etc they said that was normal and all rooms could become family rooms... So why did we still have to pay full price? We were in a rush and they wouldn't budge so we begrudgingly paid. I'm yet to ring head office and complain and get my money back but I will be doing that tomorrow. The restaurant food was good but overpriced and the menus looked like they were from a cafe/diner and not where they charge £20 for a rump steak. The bar staff were friendly and good. Collapse

We stayed for one Saturday night on breakfast and dinner basis. Room was clean and adequate. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating and made for a good experience, especially the young girl on reception when we left who helped us with our descrepency of the bill. I agree with other comments that some of the areas need a bit of updating especially chairs and tables in dining room which look tired. Food was great both from the bar menu and bistro. Dinner was from either menu and didn't seem to be any restrictions. Especially enjoyed the chicken wings as starter moist with a lovely crispy skin. Then we both had one of the fish dishes and good portions, no room for dessert. Breakfast was hot or cold buffet with a good choice of coffees from the machine or choice of teas. Would happily stay again. Collapse
