This break was not really a holiday break... we booked the Manor Hotel at Meriden as it was close to a nearby venue for an Aunt's 80th Birthday celebration. The hotel was good in all respects for our visit... close to our destination, friendly staff, nice breakfasts, comfortable room & bed / bathroom. Car park was busy but big enough so easily found a space. There is no lift so had a long walk / multiple corridors and stairs to reach our room. Would stay there again. Best Western are usually hotels you can trust and this was no exception. Collapse

The hotel we stayed in was very grand looking from the outside. Our room was very comfortable, the staff were helpful. We ate in Houstons Bar and Grill which was ok, bit overpriced and a long wait for the food. The main restaurant was expensive and saw that not many people used it. They should have more offers on for people to dine there. It was in a great location, walkable distance to a local pub called the Bulls Head which we had a drink one night and a meal the next. We also visited Cadburys World which was part of the package deal. That was only 13 miles away. A good day out and plenty to see. Overall me and my husband enjoyed our two day break and would recommend the hotel to friends. Collapse

Because flights to Lesvos, Greece, had been cancelled, by our tour operator, from Manchester this year, we were obliged to travel to a hotel near to Birmingham Airport. We needed an overnight stay before flying out, and, an overnight stay after arriving back in the UK at 11.pm. A check on websites readily brought this Hotel to our attention, and with the deal including dinner, breakfasts, taxi drop-off for departure, collection upon return, and secure car-parking for the 3 weeks, the deal was done! All for less than £300... We arrived early evening, to be welcomed by a pleasant and efficient Receptionist. Our room was spacious, comfortable and more than adequate for our needs. The evening dinner was good, in a pleasant Restaurant. There was a large Wedding function in progress in another part of the Hotel, but, this did not in any way affect our stay. The construction of the new 'Marco Pierre White' restaurant was clearly evident, close to Reception, but, work had finished for the day, and our movement around was not disrupted. We had a comfortable sleep, a good breakfast, and the taxi arrived, when expected, for the short journey to the Airport. Upon our return from Greece, the taxi was waiting for us, and when arriving back at the Hotel, we were again greeted by an attentive and pleasant Receptionist. A quick check of my L.R. Discovery, in the car-park, prompted me to remember never to park under a tree next time, because it was covered in bird droppings and about 2 ton of dead leaves! There was, again, a large, lively Wedding party in progress, but, it didn't concern us at all, and the Marco Pierre White restaurant was nearly finished, and causing no problems. At our departure time, the Reception staff were very busy, because of a large number of guests checking-out, many of them from the Wedding reception, but, they were very pleasant, efficient, and, in the circumstances, flexible regarding the checking-out time. Upon arriving home, I realised that I had left my light-weight jacket in our room's wardrobe. I 'phoned the Hotel, was connected with a staff manager, who noted my lapse, and then 'phoned me later to say the jacket had been found, and it turned up, by post, at my home address the next day! Excellent service. Collapse

Very nice hotel, well located clean and comfortable with all of the facilities you would expect. Food was good and the staff pleasant enough 2 things were a big issue, the first was the inability to get a phone signal and this hotel has rooms for conferences. In this day and age there is technology that can overcome this. The second was the lack of working air conditioning, I complained and was given a small noises fan and really. No satisfactory outcome only the staff saying if it's still a problem let them know! Well the air con wasn't suddenly going to,start working on its own. I was also very surprised that there were only lifts in one part of the hotel and not where my room was or if there was there was no signage there also didn't appear to be lifts to the function rooms which again seemed strange. I may be wrong so please check before you go. I didn't ask whilst I was there as I don't like to draw attention to my mobility needs. I left early and didn't sleep there due to the heat in the room. When I checked out I was asked why i was leaving early and I explained and whilst the receptionist apologied he didn't offer any reduction on the bill. Collapse

Less than 10 minutes – 17.00 Gbp taxi ride from the airport, the hotel & it’s well maintained grounds cut an impressive sight on first viewing. Checking in was smooth, quick & friendly. Walking to our ground floor rooms we noticed work was going on to provide a Marco Pierre White Steakhouse which alarmed us a little but we needn’t have worried as that work didn’t interfere with our stay in any way. Our adjoining non smoking rooms were more or less identical. I’ll only comment on the room that I slept in. Ok size wise, not huge but adequate with carpet floor, 2 single beds, wardrobe, safe, iron & ironing board, trouser press, full length mirror, luggage rack, smoke alarm, hairdryer, table & armchair, dresser & chair, plenty of clothes storage, tea, coffee, hot chocolate & biscuits. Plenty of electrical sockets for all those gadgets & chargers. No issues with noise from inside or outside of the hotel. The natural light in the room was poor enough even though there was a decent sized window. We did have some negative issues which I’ll mention at the end of this review. Our bathroom was small but clean with fully tiled floor & walls, large mirror, retractable shaving/make up mirror, shaving socket, wall vent, bath, fixed head shower with good pressure & plenty of hot water, shower curtain, body wash, conditioner, combined shampoo/conditioner, plenty of towels & a towel rad that would be great in the winter, more anon about that. Breakfast served from 07.00 to 10.00 was very good. No problem getting seated & plenty of friendly, helpful & attentive staff. Tea & coffee was staff served & everything else was buffet self service – cereals, toast, croissants, pastries, dried fruits, fresh whole fruits, fruit segments, yoghurts, ham slices, cheese, full fry & fruit juices. Porridge, poached & boiled eggs, kippers, hot chocolate & herbal teas were all served on request. The free wifi was ok, quick enough & consistent, accessed with a password given on checking in. Complimentary national daily newspapers were available from the reception counter. Drink prices, draught Staropramen lager 4.10 GBP per pint, Kopparberg cider 4.50 GBP per bottle. Location wise, very good with the village being just a few minutes walk away & the airport close by. Checking out was up to 11.00 & like checking in, was quick & friendly. We were given room key cards for each member of our party which was great but over the weekend, we had to get those cards revalidated several times. This seemed to happen to a lot of guests & the reason given was that the card was being kept in the same pocket as a mobile phone which is something that I have experienced previously but I dispute that because I left my phone in the room for most of my stay because, for some reason, I couldn’t make any calls or send text messages. The biggest negative issue with our stay was the room temperature which was boiling hot. We stayed during a heatwave when the outside daytime temperature was hitting 30 degrees. We had no air con but did have a fan which helped a little but we couldn’t open our window more than a handful of inches which, I presume, was for security reasons. What greatly added to the room temperature was the towel radiator in the bathroom which was permanently too hot to touch. It couldn’t be turned off or even down & when I asked at reception if it was possible for someone to have a look at it for me, I was told that it could not be turned off because of the way it had been plumbed in. It makes no sense to me to be asked to act responsibly re environmental issues in a hotel that has a radiator on full heat during a heatwave, that can’t be turned off. I’m not the only person with an issue with this as I’m aware of several other guests that had the same problem. A big pity that the room temperature issue was so much to the fore front in our minds during & after our stay. The other negative issues were really just minor & wouldn’t really have any bearing on how we would have rated our stay if the room temperature had not been such a negative for us. Collapse
