I was a little surprised to realise that this hotel only goes under the umbrella of Best Western and therefore has a different policy with regard to toiletries in the room, staff on hand to assist with cases etc. On arrival I was informed I was in North Lodge which was quite a walk from the main hotel area (particularly if it is raining) and no help was offered with bags etc. With regard to toiletries, there were none in the room except a dispenser for soap on the wall, and I had to ask for a shower cap. Having enquired, I now know there are different categories of Best Western, so I won't be led by just the the name of the hotel chain again. The one thing that made me really cross though was that I am a member of the Best Western Rewards system and they refused to put the points re. this stay on my card because I had not booked direct with them and that I had gone through SuperBreak. Despite this points nonsense with Best Western I will still book with SuperBreak because it is so much easier than going through the central reservations of a hotel chain and your staff are always extremely helpful and efficient. Also I will not be dictated to by a hotel group who need to look more closely at customer care. Collapse

The Passage House Hotel is a hotel with potential. We found it suberbly situated to enjoy Dartmoor and the coast especially Teignmouth. The hotel itself has lovely facilities, including pool, sauna & steam room. The more experienced staff were very welcoming & helpful, but too many were inexperienced & unable to provide adequate service. The restaurant was disappointing; food poorly cooked & bland sauces. The Inn next door we found to be far better value for money, although the food was still not of a high quality. Collapse

We booked a three night break via Travelzoo at a very good price. The hotel is off the beaten track but is nicely positioned overlooking the River. Our room was on the first floor of the North Lodge and was comfortable and quiet, although we had no view. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good with a large choice. We ate both evenings in the pub attached to the hotel. Once again the food was tasty and the service was friendly and efficient. There are different themes depending on the day. We benefited from the Pie night which consisted of a choice of pies, a good selection of vegetables and a drink (wine or beer) for £12. Excellent value. The position of the hotel provides a good base for touring the area. Collapse

My family and I have just returned from an amazing stay at this hotel. We had a groupon deal so wasn’t expecting much but from the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. We stayed in a family room in the main hotel and the rest of our family stayed in the North lodge. The reception staff were so warm and friendly. We checked in and then went for drinks on the terrace overlooking the river Teign. Beautiful views. The General Manager Joe presented my daughter with a passage house teddy to keep. She was so made up. We all went for a swim on the Saturday afternoon and it was a lovely pool. The facilities were very clean and well looked after. Nice sized pool. On the Saturday night we had dinner in the hotel for my in laws 50th wedding anniversary. We had a beautiful table in the conservatory. They dressed the table so beautifully and allowed us to add decoration and balloons. The meal itself was delicious. Top rate food, all tastes were catered for. Our waitress Sophie was brilliant. So kind and helpful. The entire staff went above and beyond. On the Sunday morning they had reserved a table for us for breakfast and even used some of the decoration from the night before to add to the table. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were all amazing. Would definitely come back here in a heartbeat. Collapse

Passage Hotel We stayed here for 3 nights as we got a very good deal on Travelzoo. Situated a few minutes off the main road down a long winding road the Passage House Best Western Hotel looks okay. There seems to be 2 sides the complex. On one side of the road are "Lodges"while on the other side there is the hotel and reception. Car parking is a bit tight with not much space to reverse in and out but there is another car park outside the lodges. It is further to walk with cases or bags but seemed safer to park as there was more room. The entrance and reception was welcoming and our room was just down the corridor by reception in quite a nice quiet room. The room was quite adequate in that it had all that you would need for a 2 pr 3 night stay. Tea and coffee making facilities were available and were replenished each day. Everything was clean and tidy including the bathroom. We did suspect that there might have been something not quite right with the drains as there was an intermittent 'drain' smell in the bathroom. There were no toiletries except foamy soap dispensers by the wash basin and by the shower. You could apparently ask reception for anything else that you needed. Read the information in the file that is in the room to see what is available. Visiting the leisure centre was a bit of a disaster. There was no-one on reception so when we eventually signed in and went to our respective changing rooms we both realized that we didn't have towels. We went up to reception but there was again no-one there to ask. However another visitor told us that we should bring the towels from our bedroom as the leisure centre charged £1 to use their towels. We returned to our bedroom and picked up the towels and again went to our respective changing rooms. Once undressed and into our swimmers we both realized that our new £1 coins would not work in the lockers. A lady in my changing room told me that the new £1 coins would not work and kindly swapped my new coin for an old one. (Apparently supermarket trolley tokens also work in the changing rooms which was also interesting and something to remember.) My husband but this time had got dressed again and couldn't find anyone in reception to ask for advice so had decided to give up and went to read while I went for my swim and jacuzzi . This was not very pleasant as the water was not very warm. Another lady in the pool said she thought it might be 26 or 27 degrees. I asked one of the people working there as I was leaving and he said that it was 29 degrees. The jacuzzi was part of the large swimming pool so was the same temperature which was very disappointing as I thought that most if not all jacuzzis were warm! I didn't stay in the water very long and decided on a sauna to warm up. The sauna and steam rooms are single sex in your own changing rooms (we prefer mixed saunas). Anyway I can say that both the sauna and steam room in the ladies changing room were hot very nice indeed Collapse
