We had a lovely family room located in the garden. Really clean, beds super comfortable, staff really friendly. We followed the hotel website information and drove directly to meet and greet Point to arrange parking. Our bags were taken by hotel staff direct to our room while we parked and took the 5 minute stroll to the hotel. Staff dropped our bags and us directly back to our car on departure (& this was the free parking option). Really can't fault this hotel for service and the location is beautiful. Options at breakfast were only ok. Collapse
Not up to the standard it aims for

We stayed for two nights in two lovely, comfortable rooms which were well equipped and serviced during our stay. Regrettably at breakfast on the first morning by the time we got to the buffet, in the lovely garden, almost all of the breakfast had gone. We arrived at 0945 and the staff were very apologetic, but, there were no pastries or bread left, the coffee machine was empty and there was only a rather sorry serving of scrambled egg. The waitress did her best but by then it was a bit late as there were other arrivals looking for their breakfast. I did talk to the front desk manager and she very kindly gave us a 'complimentary' breakfast and as that was a little late we were also given free car parking!. Things didn't really improve as later in the day we asked for drinks in the garden, we had to go to the front desk as the barman was doubling as the front desk receptionist (it transpires he was also in training) The hotel didn't have any Cola light or other non sugar drinks and after some discussion went out to get some.!! I feel that a hotel of this standard in the Cite of Carcassonne, charging the very high prices for their rooms and service should at least meet their customers basic expectations and not have to 'comp' themselves out of trouble. The front desk manager/supervisor that I dealt with could not have been more polite, helpful and friendly, however it seems evident that her more senior management may need a little training to help them understand the need for a higher standard from the top down. I would have to say that there is little to recommend this establishment apart from its location. Collapse

We didn't realise when booking this hotel that it was right next door to the castle within the old wall of the city . Absolutely stoked to be there . Just awesome to look out your window at the castle turrets . The room was large (by French standards ) clean and well presented with probably the most comfortable hotel bed in France. There was a little noise early in the evening but we went out for dinner at one of the many restaurants nearby and probably made some noise ourselves and by the time we returned all was quiet. Location location location . Just book it ! Collapse

Incredible experience. You can either walk in with your bags or wait for the mini-mini-mini van to come and get you for the 2-13 minute drive to the heart of the walled city. Our room was in an Annex and it amazes me how they must have struggled to build VERY comfortable rooms into spaces built hundreds of years ago. Our room was doll-house tiny (think small cruise cabin - with everything) but we had a wonderful view of the medieval street, shops and restaurants leading to the center of town. We had several restaurants to choose from for all meals. We took about 2 hours to fully tour and investigate the fortress and chose our dinner spot as we wandered the city viewing shops and architecture. This is a once in the life opportunity to stay at a very nice hotel in the center of the walled city. The hotel staff was very nice and very helpful. We'll probably never be back but we'll remember that stay for a long time. Collapse

Just be careful and know the following: Staff do not have English (ok we understand we are in French speaking country, and we try French of course :-) but this is an upmarket USA brand hotel - much lesser star hotels usually have English ability) The bill seemingly will add 25% - 40% tax to everything - beware. Service = not there. The hotel charges extra for children even if sleeping in same bedding. Best Western do not do this anywhere else we have ever been. Rooms are advertised as "Sleeps 2 adults and up to one child" - In fact no other France hotels have ever done this either - and we travel in France a lot. Parking - we could put up with the above items but Parking - this really really annoyed us!!! They will tell you there is free parking, but a little vague on where it is We spent 4.5 hours getting this "free parking", seemed ridiculous goose-chase but once you start I guess you just keep thinking it will happen. We asked them on 2 occasions to show us where this parking was, as it really was very hazy info they gave. Anyway we went to where they said (quite a long way west) - the people there said no, we need to go to town in east (and it will be obvious), we try - and fail, we go back to hotel (20 mins distance every time, they give us a new location ! we go there, it is not clear at all, we park our car in paid parking until we figure it out. We go back to hotel and they say we should go to their sister hotel Mercure quite some distance away outside the main village, we go there, but.... of course they say this is not the case - so we go back to hotel, they give us new directions, we go there to find a machine with an intercom - the intercom guy says "all ok - is possible, just take ticket and all ok when leave" ummm sounds dodgy but we do this, we transfer our car. In the morning we ask again at the hotel what we do as we leave the "confirmed" we are in the correct car park in order for it to be free - they just say "it is no problem just tell them we are with Best Western" - so of course we do that .... and the guy of course says "we know nothing of this, just pay the overnight price like everyone else" - well of course this car park is more than the one we left - and this left us particularly pissed off - we go back to the hotel - and they just shrug their shoulders, OMG. This is extremely poor customer service - I guess they just know they will never see you again and don't care whatsoever. The hotel bill for anything adds around 25 - 40% tax to everything. I don't get it. The hotel even added things on, taxed them - then on question, removed them but.... left the tax on there. again OMG. but the English was so poor we just had to give up and waste no more time.
