This hotel is located on a quiet street a 15min walk from the center of the city. Our room was small tidy and clean, and the breakfast was average, no parking is available so be prepared to drive around the block to find one.

The hotel is situated close to the Metro which makes it easy to get around. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is always good when a hotel can store you luggage after check out. The room was "ok" maybe a bit basic but the bed was comfy. We had to change rooms in the morning due to our shower not working which Is not the best start to the morning... From my time working in customer services I would have compensated the customer for the hassle of having to change rooms but we ended up in a smaller room. :S The breakfast was very good but we were put off after flies overnight around the food on both mornings. The location is very close to Karlaplan metro station which makes it easy to get around and adjacent to a small shopping mall of about 30 shops. The hotel looks quite grand with steps up the front, no idea what you do if you cannot manage steps? The reception staff were typically friendly Swedish and very helpful. Ok, the first thing that you notice when you enter the bedroom is that there isn't a wardrobe or any chest of drawers, just hooks on one wall, now bear in mind that I paid for a Superior room, I wasn't very pleased and even called reception to check that they had given me the correct room. So having all my clothes on display hanging on the hooks didn't really set the mood for a great stay. The en-suite bathroom is basic and looks very 1980's, again nowhere to put your wash-bag and things, very annoying. So we had to put our toiletries on the floor, bear in mind that the floor is heated so then all your toiletries heat up! not what you expect for a supposedly four star hotel!! The coffee / tea making facilities were very basic and all instant type coffee, so I recommend taking coffee from the reception which is much nicer. Another annoying factor is that the curtains are not wide enough for the window and as its overlooked by another apartment block it doesn't give much privacy. The Best thing about this hotel is it's breakfast, versy extensive with lots of choice, fish, cheese, meats, pancakes, different types of breads, rolls crackers and nice coffee. In summary i would give this a poor rating based on just the room itself and very poor value for money. I will not be returning to this hotel and suggest to the management staff that they buy some proper storage furniture (and why would you have false drawers in the bedside cabinets??) and make it clear in the description to avoid disappointments. This is a nice hotel for tourists if you don't plan to spend a lot of time in the room. It's very reasonably priced and it's in a nice area of Stockholm. By "nice," I mean, a really good, upscale neighborhood. It's right up the street from Karlavagen which I'd compare to Park Avenue in New York City. It's not as lively as other parts of the city, but it's not far at all from restaurants. We walked to the busier areas within a few minutes. It's also walkable from the train station, however, it's about a 30 minute walk. The breakfast is amazing. I've been to Best Western Hotels all over the world and this one has the best breakfast I've experienced. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our room was really small, but it was the probably the least expensive double room, which I got with the Triple A rate. They probably have larger rooms. If you like a lot of space, spend a bit more for a large room. There was a heated floor in the bathroom and heated towel racks, which seem to be pretty common in Sweden. My only complaint was that they didn't make up our room when we went out, but to be fair, we were jet lagged and didn't leave the room until after 2 in the afternoon. If we'd called the desk, I'm sure they would have made up the room. We left a sign on the door when we left in the afternoon and we returned quite late, so maybe that was our fault. I would stay in this hotel again. Really good for the price. Collapse

Stockholm at Christmas is a joy to behold! Soft white lighted candles and stars in every window, classy evergreen decorations and snow underfoot glittering like a million diamonds. Tall, monumental, historic brick buildings lining the wide streets of Oestermalm of which The Best Western Karlaplan is a wonderful example. Up the red carpet covered steps into the brilliantly lit lobby with it's beautiful Christmas tree and a smiling welcome at reception. In it's hayday a Grand Hotel, the Karlaplan now caters to a different clientele and needs with charm and grace. There is no restaurant or bar but there is coffee on tap all day and night in the breakfast area, along with wonderful pastries and cakes. An elegant sweeping staircase leads to the upper floors which are also accessible by lift. My room although compact was well furnished and well appointed, with a window onto the central courtyard and a spotlessly clean bathroom with piping hot water and a powerful shower. Breakfast was copious, varied and good with excellent coffee! The hotel is a five minute walk from the Karlaplan T barnen on the huge Karlaplan roundabout where you will also find the Maximteatern and upmarket restaurants and bars. The hotel is ideally placed in a quiet classy neighbourhood as a base to discover and explore this wonderful city. The waterfront is minutes walk away with ferries to the myriad islands which form part of the city, and Gamla Stan, the medieval heart of the city, is only three stops away on the metro. Stockholm Central Station is two stops away and very convenient for the Arlanda Express for the airport. It was a magical introduction to a city I have fallen in love with and to a beautiful country with friendly, welcoming, fun people! Collapse
