Visited Beamish Hall Hotel for 2 nights as part of a visit to Beamish Museum just a mile down the road. We have visited many Country House Hotels over the years and you tend to compare as you go along. The hotel is an impressive building set in scenic grounds. Our room was second floor, spacious, dual aspect and furnished with antique furniture, quite pleased actually. Afternoon Tea and breakfast was served in the impressive Eden Room, quality and service was first class. Hotel information praises the Eden Lounge where guests can relax and enjoy the stunning views of the gardens, unfortunately the lounge was not available to guests during our visit and no explanation was forthcoming. Expecting the evening meal to be served in the Eden Room we were surprised when told that a meal could be booked in the stables restaurant to the rear of the hotel building across an open courtyard. In my opinion the Stables Resturant has been constructed to attract outside trade focusing on people of a younger age group than ourselves i.e. Young families and people attending the local Beamish Wild experience. From staying in the hotel I find the stables restaurant totally out of character with the main building. In fairness the food was good quality and served by friendly and efficient staff, however we found the experience rather similar to our local pub, fast track food, lively atmosphere, not quite in keeping with a Country House hotel. Returning to reception we enquired if there was a residents lounge we could retire to and order further drinks, unfortunately the only lounge area was actually in reception itself and drinks would have to be ordered from the Stables Restaurant. This is the only Country House Hotel we have visited that does not serve evening meals in house, does not have a residents lounge in house and does not have a residents bar in house. Would we consider returning in the future, yes, if the management improved the situation regarding evening meal dining in the Eden Room, opening the residents lounge i.e. the Eden Lounge and providing a bar or waiter service in the main hotel, these are basic requirements people expect when visiting a 4 star Country House hotel. I believe the hotel has 40 or so bedrooms and maybe the management is swayed more towards other functions such as weddings, corporate meetings etc rather than portraying the hotel as a truly Country House hotel which I find rather sad as the main building is stunning. Comfortable property next to a golf course and surrounded by parkland. The Stables restaurant is good value, but busy on summer weekends. Lots of wedding and party activity during the summer months, so ask for a room away from the Stables and open bar area. We had a lovely four-poster bedroom that was spacious. No fridge, which is disappointing during the summer months and not much space in the bathroom for two sets of toiletries, Staff helpful and pleasant overall. Collapse
