Bellevue has a unique old-timey charm. This is not a modern, contemporary, minimalistic hotel, but it has a lot of charm. The rooms are simple, nothing really fancy, but they are clean and spacious, a rarity in Hamburg. My only critique for the room is the lack of appropriate lighting in the room and in the bathroom. The breakfast is good and varied. Staff very friendly and helpful I would stay there again. Collapse

Stayed a weekend mid-March. View from room was nice and room generally clear. Double bed only 140cm wide and a bit soft in the middle. Was told that the width was standard in hotel. Count on more noise from inside hotel than outside despite location next to busy street. Note in elevator stated that illness kept hotel from offering normal food services. So did not eat in hotel. Went to neighborhood restuarants instead (St. Georg). Parking was a big hassle as side streets were full (and costs 2 euros per hour) and hotel parking was limited. Hotel could not offer garage reservation but offered a space right after I had paid 6 Euros on the street. At arrival we were told hotel parking was free. At departure suddenly parking was 7 Euros during the day + 5 Euros during the night. Rating down one for the bed and one for the parking. Collapse

It seems a bit unfair to do a review of this hotel as we literally just slept and left. We checked in at 10am thinking we would just leave our luggage but fortunately the room was ready. Its about a 15/20 minute leisurely walk from central station. Rooms are basic but clean and have all amenities including safe, mini bar, hairdryer etc. Stayed 2 nights room only. There are quite a few bakery/coffee shops on the road up to central station for breakfast. Overall a very good value for money 3 star hotel which isn't far from all that Hamburg has to offer. A 15 minute walk from Hamburg train station and nicely located opposite the Outer Alster lake. First impressions were good. However things went downhill almost immediately. The check-in process is probably the worst I have ever experienced in all of the hotels I have stayed in around the world and I'll even include hostels into that. The chap behind reception couldn't look more feed up and less enthusiastic if he tried. We arrived about 3 hours early of check-in and our room was not ready, no problem, we were happy to go out and explore and I mentioned this. But we had to ask if we could leave our cases with no offer from the hotel at all. Did they expect we would go off and explore with cases in tow? Something simple yet always a helpful jester. I'd already prepaid, so gave my details and that was it, come back after 3pm. We returned around 5pm after a good walk around in the cold, and was met by a much busier reception and with a different member of staff ready to serve us. A chance to show us that we had merely encountered someone not having a great day. We did get a smile and I mentioned we had arrived earlier, that our rooms were not ready but we left our cases and need to complete check-in. I gave my name, passed over our tickets for the cases and was handed the key while being told room is on the 4th floor, lift is round the corner. There was no mention of breakfast, the restaurant or bar and no mention of check out time or about the wifi (which was highlighted as being free on the confirmation email). We just found the staff were not at all personable or very helpful at all. The room it's self was very basic, similar to your Travelodge or Premier Inn type hotels, but not as nice. Considering it was freezing outside, the heating wasn't on so not a great start. The double bed wasn't 2 single beds exactly, it was 2 single mattresses with no zipper cover, meaning the gap got wider as the amount of time spent in bed increased. It was comfy but having that gap was uncomfortable for us. The pillows were like laying on thin air. On appearance they looked big and full of life, however, once we laid down there was nothing to suggest I was actually laying on the pillow. It was terrible. I went down to ask for better pillows, but all the hotel had was more of the same. So folded over and doubled up was at least starting to feel like a pillow. The other thing to state was that the room we were allocated, room 40, was right next to the lift door, so of course we heard everyone coming and going and the mechanics of the lift going up and down. Add to that the door provided no sounds proof what so ever, it's easy to say we didn't get the best nights sleep either night or a nice long lay in. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room and no iron or board. I'm not sure if this is standard practice in hotels in Germany, but little things like that make stays more comfortable. The one major plus point was the view of Alster's Outer Lake. It was fantastic and such a beautiful view to be able to see first thing in the morning. The hotel isn't close to the main parts of Hamburg as such, however we walked everywhere as the walk along the lake is well worth it, except for a late night cab ride back after dinner. The cab was €15 from the Reeperbahn and I'd advise this if you want to get home quickly. We took a bus to the Reeperbahn and it was €10 and was a few minutes from the hotel. Not to mention it takes longer and Hamburg is very cold in the winter. Check-out was similar to check-in and we left knowing that we would never return nor recommend this hotel to friends or family. It is a shame as this trip was bought as a Christmas present for me wife. Ultimately we enjoyed Hamburg but sadly our hotel stay wasn't anywhere close to expectation. Collapse

Whilst not in the main centre, this hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the Rathaus and a bit further from the harbour and other sights. It has great views of the lake and just round the corner from a main street with plenty of shops and restaurants. My single room didn't feel too small and was lovely and warm. The only English tv channel was CNN but I didn't got to Hamburg to watch tv! The wifi worked fine for me on the groundfloor. Overall a lovely hotel close to the main train station and great for a city break if you are happy walking a bit to the sights. Collapse
