The negative reviews I read almost turned me off, but I realized this place was comparatively cheap for a reason. That being said, I decided to see for myself rather than take the reviews at face value of people who likely found the cheapest place possible and were upset that they didn't end up in a four star resort. We are a couple in our early 30's with a large pit bull and that limits us a bit. Living in Fort Lauderdale, our planning of this trip was short notice. Our options were limited. I had low expectations but I was pleasantly surprised. Pros: the room, although dated and in a bit of disrepair was quite spacious with a nice patio overlooking a lovely pool. Nice, comfy bed, mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker. A couch that the dog made his own. No bugs, no smell, nothing of the things we've experienced at other "better" hotels. It was a short walk to the water, which was beautiful at sunrise. The location is good for some, depends what your main interest is. For us it worked. We drove to Mallory Square and experienced Duval Street but were able to walk back in 40 minutes (we had a really good parking spot, didn't wanna give it up, and took a $10 cab back later: worked great for us, not for everyone) It's surrounded by a lot of water activities within walking/biking distance, so if you're avoiding the drunken mess of Duval for the most part, this is a good bet. Cons: there was an issue with our room key, it stopped working. It was easily fixed but we had to worry what we'd do if it happened after hours. That's it actually. All in all, it was exactly what we needed. Very quiet, lots of space both indoors and out, never crowded. Close enough to Duval to serve our needs, but far enough away that it wasn't noisy or annoying. It seems expensive, but Key West in general is expensive, especially in June. If you're planning on spending your vacation in your hotel room, by all means she'll out hundreds more and enjoy a different TV. If you need a dog friendly place to shower and sleep, this more than serves its purpose. Collapse

Not glamorous but was spacious and quiet. Pets stay for free so we brought the puppy and the front desk attendant had the courtesy to call and let us know our room was ready to check-in early. Much cheaper than the hotels off Mallory Square and you don't have to pay to park/valet which can save another $20+ per day. The room overlooked the pool, had a large canopy bed as well as a desk and pullout sofa. We didn't experience any problems. I'll probably stay there again when I return to Key West in the end of June. Collapse

Beer bottles and wine bottles everywhere. Trash not emptied, Air Conditioning not adjustable, three lights out not working. Shade broken. Mattress poor at best ( I throw away better ones) Door hard to close. TV small old tube type NOT FLAT SCREEN ! Deck falling apart along with stairs. Tiki Bar was closed and walling apart as was café. Beach is OK, Dock fell down half in the water broken. WILL BE TEARDOWN SOON ! Collapse

Filthy place and nobody cares. Won't ever stay here again. Walls have streaks going down them, bathroom fan broken and caked with lint, toilet bowl disgusting, lamp shades torn up, filthy carpeting. The shower works in reverse (have to turn to cold side to get warm water). The king bed is a joke - you bounce all over it and there is a good 6 inches between the mattress and the side of the bed. The air conditioner is so loud you really can't sleep with it going on and off. Roosters all over the place making a ton of noise all day and night. This place has gone so downhill that it probably can't recover. It was beautiful at one time long ago - it's a shame. The pool is nice, there is a spa and old chairs at the waterfront (old as in need of repair/upgrade). There is a room for breakfast that has a tv and wifi (wifi is not available in any rooms), also an exercise room. Breakfast consists of waffles, bagels, cereals and mini pastries and muffins, coffee, tea, juice, hot chocolate. No one asks how your stay was - I guess they know better. Collapse
