Let me tell you about this place. We were going to rent at an Resort in one of the Keys, but the location was not so great! So, we drove down to the Keys, Key West. And, we were looking in our GPS, and we see this Hotel, with a great Rate.... SO, we decided to check it out... when we got to the parking lot, we immediately saw the cleanliness in the parking lot... so I went to the desk, and it smelled so clean, a lady was there washing something, with the faucet opened, it just looked like these people were spring cleaning... So, we asked to see the room, because of course, the hotel is a historic hotel, to say the least... and believe me... this hotel was the cleanness hotel I have ever been. The sheets on the bed were pressed.... I am not kidding... and it smelled so pretty... the bed was so amazing, and we had a little view of the water, from our balcony... it was just too good to be true... so we found out about this hotel, and asked about Fantasy Fest Rates... and unfortunately were told, that this hotel is going to go down... literally.... apparently its been talked about for a while, that is going down... but it is a shame... a true shame... because the hotel has of-course its age, and all, but the cleanliness, the friendliness of the people, you cannot buy for any money, believe me... we want to go back... before it is closed..... I really have a great memory night from this hotel... Loved it... Thank you Banana Bay Key West Friends, you guys are the best.... Oh, I forgot, it has a kitchenette, and a small refrigerator... it is great... you will get your moneys worth.... Collapse

We booked this hotel same day and stayed one night. It's an older hotel that is simpler (i.e. wifi only in lounge and one other spot). Otherwise it was great. Room was very clean, bed was super comfortable, and breakfast was decent (bagels, hot coffee, etc). I'd like to specifically mention Jason at the front desk, he helped us resolve a problem with a mistake we made regarding our travel dates and he suggested a phenomenal place to go snorkeling (fort Zachary Taylor national park). We spent the whole day there. If you are active (i.e. spending most of the day out and about) and looking for a comfy clean place to rest, shower, and refresh, this is a cheap option. Collapse

The negative reviews I read almost turned me off, but I realized this place was comparatively cheap for a reason. That being said, I decided to see for myself rather than take the reviews at face value of people who likely found the cheapest place possible and were upset that they didn't end up in a four star resort. We are a couple in our early 30's with a large pit bull and that limits us a bit. Living in Fort Lauderdale, our planning of this trip was short notice. Our options were limited. I had low expectations but I was pleasantly surprised. Pros: the room, although dated and in a bit of disrepair was quite spacious with a nice patio overlooking a lovely pool. Nice, comfy bed, mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker. A couch that the dog made his own. No bugs, no smell, nothing of the things we've experienced at other "better" hotels. It was a short walk to the water, which was beautiful at sunrise. The location is good for some, depends what your main interest is. For us it worked. We drove to Mallory Square and experienced Duval Street but were able to walk back in 40 minutes (we had a really good parking spot, didn't wanna give it up, and took a $10 cab back later: worked great for us, not for everyone) It's surrounded by a lot of water activities within walking/biking distance, so if you're avoiding the drunken mess of Duval for the most part, this is a good bet. Cons: there was an issue with our room key, it stopped working. It was easily fixed but we had to worry what we'd do if it happened after hours. That's it actually. All in all, it was exactly what we needed. Very quiet, lots of space both indoors and out, never crowded. Close enough to Duval to serve our needs, but far enough away that it wasn't noisy or annoying. It seems expensive, but Key West in general is expensive, especially in June. If you're planning on spending your vacation in your hotel room, by all means she'll out hundreds more and enjoy a different TV. If you need a dog friendly place to shower and sleep, this more than serves its purpose. Collapse
Needs update but great front desk

This was probably once a great property. It needs work but for the price it works. The front desk, Jason in particular, does an outstanding job keeping customers satisfied. He could work at any of the top resorts.
