Good location and great staff but disappointing food

The hotel staff were lovely. Room was slightly basic but the bed was huge and everything was clean. Got the steak for dinner which was over-cooked and got 6 chips with it which was a bit strange. Everything else about the hotel was good.

My partner and I stayed here for one night whilst visiting Tipperary. I had email communications with the Hotel during booking which led me to think it was going to be a lovely place as the lady was so helpful and made things straightforward. Upon arrival the hotel looks great. But what made the best impression was the lady on reception who checked us in and was absolutely lovely. She was very welcoming and polite and explained everything briefly to us. Our room was great. Yes the decor in places could do with a bit of a facelift and the tv is old but it was clean, it was spacious and it was comfortable. To me that's all that really matters. The tv may have been old but it had a better quality picture than in most hotels I've been to recently plus it could be watched comfortably from the bed. The bed we didn't think was going to be comfortable when we first sat on it but it actually really was! A real bonus for a non tea or coffee drinker was that two small bottles of water were provided in the fridge. Also milk was in there so for coffee it was actually cold. Also glasses there not just the bathroom ones. We got a great nights sleep with not too much noise coming from the corridor. The spa leisure facilities we really enjoyed. A definite bonus to the hotel. Towels provided and was a lovely way to unwind. We ate in the bar for dinner and the food was great. Bar staff couldn't do enough for you and really friendly. A good choice of food and it was delicious. Felt really sorry for the poor barman who was being laid into by a lady about the difference between a French fry and a homemade chip but to his credit he stayed professing and maintained the patience of a saint throughout. Breakfast was good. Nothing outstanding but nothing wrong with it. Far better than I've had in some hotels. The next time we make the pilgrimage to visit grave/family in the area this will be our hotel of choice Collapse
Fine hotel for 1 night

There was nothing really wrong with the hotel, just that it was little outdated and our room would deserve a refurbishment. Our room was facing the parking lot, there was very old tv and the walls could really use repaint. But in general the room was big and clean, bathroom as well. It has bridge, tea and coffee. So it had all it should have, but with bit of refurbishing it could be much better. Staff was friendly and nice, breakfast room was very spacious and regular choice of hot and cold breakfast. For 1 night it was great stop, but I suppose as it is also golf resort, it might be better for golfers as there is not much to do in the area. Collapse

My husband and I got married in The great National Ballykisteen golf hotel and resort on April 08th 2017 we were both blown away with the treatment we received. The hotel looked absolutely amazing, the function room looked fabulous on the day and the food was to die for and the service second to none. We cannot put into words how happy and grateful we are for everything . We cannot recommend the hotel and staff highly enough. Helen made everything so easy from start to finish was so helpful and easy to deal with. On the night Jamie looked after us, he was amazing and everything went perfectly ..All our guests commented on how fab the food and service was and how beautiful the function room and hotel looked. We cannot thank you enough Helen, Jamie and your wonderful staff for making our day so special. We would recommend Ballykisteen to anyone that is thinking about having they're wedding here. The reception room for the wedding meal was beautifully decorated but the food was very slow to come to the tables . There was plenty of waiting staff but they didn't seem to know what they were doing (. they using the snake service)- by the time food came to our table , it was warm not hot and we were tired of waiting , we ate it - we also asked for extra roast potatoes and the server was polite and went off to get them bug never came back with them - food was good quality but service very poor Collapse
