This hotel is situated 45 minutes out of the main residential area of Dubai in the desert. It is delightfully designed in local style, with good sized and well equipped rooms. Service is friendly and impeccable and nothing is too much trouble. Good pool area and a selection of restaurants are on offer. Outdoor pursuits on offer include camel or horse riding and even a putting course. If you like watching the sunset, in a chilled atmosphere on a roof top terrace sipping a cocktail, then this is a place for you try. I would recommend a short stay as part of a multi centre trip to Dubai. I will return Collapse

Bab al Shams is in an amazing desert setting yet only 45 mins drive from the centre of Dubai. The hotel has a very tasteful Arabic theme, lovely rooms, stunning bathrooms, beautiful communal areas, restaurants and bars. The Arabic evening in Al Hadheera fort restaurant is a must-do and in a different league to the regular desert trips out of Dubai. The food is amazing both in selection and standard and the entertainment very good. Breakfast excellent. The rooftop bar is stunning with great cocktails and sheesa. The pool area is beautiful with 3 different pools and very attentive pool attendants bringing cold towels, watermelon, etc. We took a Desert safari drive which was very interesting and did not involve any hairy dune-bashing, just oryx and Arabian gazelle seen from an open top Landrover and Desert as far as the eye can see. Also available are activities like horse and camel riding, archery and falconry, as well as mini golf and croquet. As we were leaving, one of the staff noticed we had a flat tyre and the staff rallied round and changed the wheel for us, so our departure was barely delayed. Way above and beyond the call of duty and hugely appreciated! Collapse

Booked a 1 night stay to celebrate a birthday. Was not disappointed. Decor was beautiful and created a very unique environment. Room was absolutely stunning, with additional finishing touches making the stay extra special. Service from the staff was exceptional. Can highly recommend the Masala restaurant for delicious Indian curries and the rooftop bar for an evening drink under the stars. Pools were excellent and the kids were well catered for with camel rides and archery. Not giving the full rating due to a mix up with service charges at check out adding an additional 600AED to the bill (we were charged 20% as opposed to 10% as agreed at booking). Collapse

Bab Al Shams is a fantastic place if you want to relax away from the bustle of Dubai. The architecture is lovely, the desert views nice, and the pool area is impressive. ROOM The rooms are quaint, in a "desert palace" style. Our room had a jacuzzi. The rooms are pretty dark, since they are protected agains too much sunshine. GROUNDS It's a lot of fun to wander around teh hotel grounds and pretend you're in some kind of fantasy desert village. Lots of fountains, seating areas etc. Lots of photo opportunities. RESTAURANTS The breakfast buffet is good, and you can sit outside on the terrace if you wish. For dinner there are several options. We really enjoyed the Al Sarab Rooftop lounge, which is more like a bar but you can also have arabic food and enjoy the views and the sunset. DINNER SHOW One night we went to the dinner show at Al Hadheera - the food was good and the setting was nice, but the show was just too tacky - the numbers are short and feel very touristy. The artists come around the tables with a photographer so you can buy a photo with them. Maybe if you have kids or are really keen to see some camels and dancing you'll like it. ACTIVITIES The hotel organizes many activities, and many are actually free. We enjoyed the early morning falconry visit and the free camel ride (even if it's literally a 1 minute thing where they take your picture and try to sell it to you). The desert walk was OK. There are some neighboring properties and some roads that ruin the desert feeling a little bit, but there are wild (?) gazelles roaming around. POOL AREA We were surprised over how large and nice the pool area is. There are many different sections, with varying water temperatures. ACCESS BY TAXI It's easy to access the hotel by taxi from both Dubai and Abu Dhabi - and makes for a great stopover on the way between the emirates. You can just take a taxi to the hotel and then have the hotel arrange a new taxi for you when you depart; just negotiate the rate beforehand - it's not expensive for an hour's taxi ride. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bab Al Shams. Collapse

Less than an hour from central Dubai this resort exudes old world charm but with very modern facilities. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff, a quick check-in and someone to guide us to our room (this is necessary as the rooms are spread out). We had a second floor corner room with a small balcony facing the desert. Yes, as others have noted the room is a bit dark due to the size of the windows, but this adds to the character of the place. The furnishings are in keeping with the desert oasis motif. Fresh fruit, dates and an anniversary cake awaited us on arrival...extra touches that just enhanced our stay! The bathroom is a good size with a large step up bathtub and good toiletries. That evening we returned from our dinner show to find our bathtub lit with candles and full of beautiful flowers....lovely, unexpected touches. The grounds are lovely, well kept and the infinity pools with views of the desert amazing. Pool attendants are very helpful and lots of comfortable loungers are available. Around 4:30 pm you can go for a short camel ride, watch a falcon show etc just steps away from the pool. The breakfast buffet was very good and it was so nice sitting outside by the lawns having our breakfast (we were there in January and it wasn't too hot then). Little touches like hot chocolate, marshmallows in the evening by a fire pit....just can't say enough about this place. We stayed in the city for 5 days and only stayed one night but wished it had been longer! if we are in Dubai again will definitely stay here! Kudos to the resort team! Collapse
