good quality-price ratio but not for tall males

We booked a superior room because we wanted some space, and this turned out to be the case, which was nice. However, the entrance door to our room (in a corner) was right next to the entrance door of another room, and on 2 occasions, we had the impression that someone was actually going to come into our room. Either this is due to isolation and affects all rooms, or maybe it is just this particular room arrangement that was very unfortunate. Another issue with our room was the bed length (190cm) which is a little tight for an average size male. The bathroom (including the toilet) was very clean. The hotel common spaces were very basic and uninviting to us, but did attract other people, so that’s probably fine. What was absolutely fine beyond any doubt was the staff at the entrance desk : they were extremely kind and informative of things going on in Lyon. The other major plus was the hotel location : a short walk to historic center, and close to bus and tram stops. All in all, good quality-price-ratio. Collapse

We stayed at the hotel twice during our 9-days trip to France and we could not find faults with it. It is not like in a 5 star hotel, but we did not expect that, as we did not pay a 5-star price. The place was clean, staff were pleasant and the breakfast was tasty and varied. The room we got after we came back from Chamonix was slightly better than the first time. We are not fussy people to start with, and generally use the hotel room to crash for the night, as we are out visiting the whole day. There were TV channels in English that we watched before falling asleep. The wi-fi being free, it mattered. We had a rental car that we parked on the street nearby. The parking is free from 7 pm to 9 am. There is also a supermarket nearby as well as a shopping centre with tons of restaurants in a huge modern space. This was a plus. As for those people who complain about the location of this hotel, note that the public transportation in Lyon is quite cheap, and you can get downtown fast and easily - basically two metro stops. Or you can walk if you prefer to stroll - it is not that far. You can buy tickets (for one trip or the whole day) at the reception desk of the hotel. The tickets are also good on the funicular to the downtown attractions La Fourviere and the Roman ruins. By the way, we never book hotels in downtown, as we find them noisy. This hotel is very quiet so perfect for resting well at night. Overall, it was a positive experience. Collapse

Although the location of the hotel is not absolutely ideal, it is certainly not the biggest problem of the hotel. The train station as well as metro station Gare de Lyon-Perrache are just couple hundred meters from hotel but even the centre and Old City (Le Vieux Lyon) can be reached by walk without difficulties. However the price for the room and quality of the hotel are unbalanced (perhaps it was just due to European Championship in football that took place in France in that time). The rooms are a bit obsolete and some of them would need refurbishment. The staff is professional but I would appreciate more interactivity with guests (perhaps exception was the desk clerk Didier that was really helpful, talkative and emphatic). But the biggest dissapointment were certainly breakfast. One of the worst out of all hotels and pensions I ever visited. Absolutely insufficient choice of meals and drinks, ineffective staff (especially waiters), what resulted in uncleaned tables (the table next to our table was uncleaned for more than 30 minutes), constantly missing meals and drinks of breakfast buffet and non-satisfaction of guests. I stayed at Axotel on business and was satisfied with the accommodations. The rooms are consistent with European sizing but adequate. I had a large wheelie bag and it was no problem. The breakfast was nice with a good selection so no worries there. The hotel staff was professional. I have to give the guy at the check-in credit as he made some great recommendations for local restaurants. The locational of the hotel is in a more residential area of Lyon. Not such an interesting part of town so be prepared to walk a bit to get to the city center. For me this hotel was a "utility" option and provides a solid place to spend the night at a decent price.
