Super place just by the centre so very near the restaurants and shops . The couple who run this place really could not be more helpful full of good ideas as to where to visit and local restaurants which are reasonably priced and all done with good humour . Felt that nothing was too much trouble. Rooms and clean and have everything you need . We had the front ground floor room which can be a little noisy but after a glass of wine or so we hardly noticed . We would come back again . Collapse

We stayed 5 nights and loved the room- they upgraded us into a room overlooking the garden. It was a large room with a sitting area separated from the bedroom. However it was too hot in the room and the air conditioning had not been turned on so we had to open up the windows and had to listen to the trains all night. Not great for sleeping and bugs came into the room. Beautiful hotel with a Scarlett Ohara sweeping staircase to the reception area. Front desk staff were excellent....very helpful and professional. Great location from the train station....exit and turn left and the hotel entrance is at the lights. Only a 5 min. walk. Only a 15 min walk to the Pope's palace and Avignon sur le pont bridge. Avignon was a great home base to visit Arles,Orange, Roullison, Gourdes, the other smaller towns in Provence. Classy hotel! It would have been nice to have had one breakfast included in our five night stay. Collapse

First of all I must mention that this hotel is wonderfully located – just a step from the old city wall of Avignon. From one hand you need only 10 minutes walk to reach Popes’ Residence and from the other hand hotel is easily accessible by car. At the same time I must mention that Avignon is the right place if you wish to make a trip through Provence region and visit other different towns, including Nimes, Arles, etc. Breakfast. Breakfast should be considered like a minor point of this hotel as the choice is absolutely unacceptable for 4 star European hotel. In principal you would find something to eat there but it is far from the real 4 star hotel breakfast, especially taking into consideration that price is 15 EUR. Coffee is extremely poor quality and I would not recommend you to use hotel breakfast at all, please choose some other option to have your morning start. Parking. There is a public parking, partially under the hotel with elevator bringing you directly to the hotel and the price is 15 EUR/night if you validate your parking ticket at the reception. The entrance to the parking is located just over the corner from Grand hotel and you woun’t meet any problem to reach it. The reception staff is friendly and welcoming, they are service minded and we never had any problems with them during the week we staid there. At the same time I must mention that house-keeping service must be improved because the way they do their work could be hardly acceptable for the level of hotel. Just to give you some examples - room carpet was not cleaned properly, plastic glassed were not replaced, wine goblets were never cleaned or replaced, some days shower and shampoos were not refilled, one day housekeeper took away bathrobes without returning new. Eventually nothing extraordinary but in general you normally expect to receive a higher service level, especially when it is not high season and hotel was practically empty. Room. The room was big (we staid 7 night and got a free upgrade to the suite) with a wonderful open terrace to sit outside with a view to the railway. Take note that noise from the railway is not disturbing when windows are closed. There are several sources of light in the room and this is really helpful, you always have enough light or romantic atmosphere. Bed was fine and enough comfy. Actually, the room offers huge space (I assume two rooms were combined together to organize this suite) but I can’t say that ergonomics is on a high level, for example: you would not find enough sockets and you would not find enough hooks in the bathroom to place towels and you would not find full-length mirror here. Wifi was fast enough and connection was stable, during our week in the hotel we never met any problems with Internet even though we have not uploaded some big files. Collapse

This supposedly is a four star hotel. Well, it compares favourably with 2 star hotels. Let's start with breakfast: it is a bit better in style, presentation and contents than a youth hostel breakfast. At Euro 15 the price seems to be the four star element The rooms: make sure you keep a torch as the light switch is metres away from the bed near the door to the room. If you unplug lamps you will have a socket to use for your electronic equipment. There were two showers: one that either boiled / froze you and the other that was actually usable. As there is no splash screen with the second one, the bath will be well under water. And there is a bar: it is a selection of drinks that you can enjoy in the lifeless entrance hall to the hotel, but only until 21.30 at night. So no late drinking! No, there is no minibar Furniture in the room is cast iron and requires a fork lift truck to move. Definitely not for the frail or weak traveller. Collapse
