This property was built probably somewhere in the 1970's, maybe early 80's. It hasn't seen a renovation since. You should know what you're getting yourself into with this property. After having a magical three nights in Lisbon, we set off for the beaches of Portugal. Neither my boyfriend nor I have been to Portugal before and we were flying a little blind while trying to determine which beach town to choose. We settled on this property because of a) it's close proximity to the beach and b) it's view of the water. If you're only looking for these two while determining where you stay then you'll be fine. If you except a decent hotel room w/amenities such as wifi access you are &*$# out of luck! The picutres of the rooms are pretty much that bleak. The blankets and sheets are threadbare, the pillows horrible, the room walls have marks, chips and holes, and the safe is not operational at all. The room also has a distinct moldy/dampness/depressing smell to it that even the strongest of candles couldn't quite zap. It seems the hotel management group has NEVER had a renovation of this property since it was built. The lobby has seen a renovation in the past 10 years or so but no where else on the property has. This means wi-fi is only accessible in the lobby right in front of the reception desk. I realize that this is a vacation where we shouldn't be attached to our devices BUT COME ON, really? The title of the review is my outburst of emotion after having dumped our luggage into our horrible little smelly room, not wanting to touch anything at all, and realizing we have three days in this dump. A little dramatic but this was definitely not what I had in mind at all. I would never recommend this property to anyone. Collapse

3 star hotel, 3 star service

Bars that should have been open were not staffed. The same gym has very strange opening hours. Left luggage room is unlocked & not staffed. When we checked out nobody asked us if we enjoyed our stay. It's the little things that can make a hotel. The team here choose not to bother. Collapse

This was the first holiday me and my girlfriend have been on, it was a quick decision, budget holiday as we are still young and couldn't afford the ludicrous prices further up the road. I'll start with the negatives and then I'll explain the positives (note I've read some reviews about experiences and I think they're a little harsh, so I'll be as honest as possible) Negatives: 1) The first impressions were not great, unusual pots on top of the roof and a horse carriage in the entrance, doesn't exactly shout 'beach resort' but never the less the lobby was tidy and clean. 2) The receptionist I believe her name was 'Victoria' was helpful, it was obvious she was struggling to speak English which was fine, she's Portuguese. they all seem slightly bipolar. One minute they're buzzing the next they're not, louisa even came over to ask how our day went. however upon leaving the hotel she handed over our keys and all we got was "thank you" not even a smile just that, it didn't exactly shout "please come back to our hotel" and left us feeling a little unappreciated. 3) I understand that people feel the need to smoke constantly however some people don't want to, and putting the ash trays at the entrance of the restaurant doesn't exactly help the cause, not really a fan of walking through people's drags when feeling fresh for dinner makes you feel a bit off. 4) The rooms were fine for what you pay don't get me wrong, but what everyone is saying about the tired decor is undoubtedly true, the curtains reminded me of Blackpool rock. And the channels in English we're American (which was handy for the update on the hurricanes, not so handy for general tv) beds were comfy though! 5) Only a small issue, the door to the bathroom would not lock and the door to the balcony took about 10 times to lock everything else was fine. 6) That maroonish paint needs to go, the walls should be a blue, white colour, it needs to shout "beach" not B&B all old fashioned decor needs replacing with pictures of old town, show off the locality, not pictures of a lady with a 1920's car. A massive revamp is needed it would help with customer satisfaction. Expensive but a fish tank in the lobby and a marble reception desk would help so much! Positives: 1)The place was clean all the time I cannot fault them for that, there are hand sanitisers everywhere which I like, gives you a slight reassurance that people's hands are clean at meal times. The maids cleaned the rooms well and used a door bell system to let you know they're there which we found amusing. 2)The bar staff are a real credit to the hotel and so are the waiting on staff at breakfast and dinner, they are the most over worked people ever yet they still smile and are attentive as they could be, very polite and quick at what they do, seriously guys you are the hidden jems of this hotel. 3) The rooms (apart from the locks) were fine. Had everything we needed, really great fridge, and amazing views! Beds were fine and the air con was amazing! Not so sure about the giant box on the balcony though. 4) A dual positive! The entertainment was amazing our favrouite act was the Tina turner drag act it was amazing seriously fun! All entertainment was brill! Pool tables handy, Snacks by the pool everything was there! 5) The beach was cool, very Shelly, very busy but very nice! 20 minute walk along the beach to old town and a handy bus back courtesy of the hotel. Plenty to do nearby. 6) you can book trips with the reception, quick and easy. 7) Nothing felt rushed it was all quick and easy they have a shop you can fly by and everything is close together, steps are annoying so what, they have ramps too. Over all this place is fine, it's 3 star, a great base and has stunning views, I would recommend it for a budget, wouldn't go back as I like change but if you want a low cost Holliday then this will do you fine, you cannot be fussy though... the food is different and the drinks are not all Botega gold. You get what you pay for. Collapse
