The beach was so close and ideal for the sort of holiday we wanted - sun, sand and sea. Lots of steps so as other reviews have said not ideal if you have mobility issues. The rooms were in need of a refurb but the shower was great, air con worked well, everything clean and fresh. We took a kettle as another review suggested it but we didn't need it. Quiet after 11pm so that suited us as we didn't get disturbed late. Plenty of food which we enjoyed, no idea why anyone would complain about it. View from the restaurant was lovely. We always got a sunbed and never went down before 9am. Nice breeze most days but was a bit too windy one day but plenty of places to lie in the sun out of the wind. Transfer to and from hotel took about 45 minutes. Staff varied - some were lovely and couldn't do enough for us but others looked bored and not interested. My only criticism is the room safe, the info makes you think it is included but it is 3 euro a night. Overall good value. Collapse
Would not go to this hotel again

The location is very good and the ground's of this hotel are very nice the downfall is the room's and food rooms are very outdated curtain's need a good wash handle on door to balcony broken took a while to lock ,1 of the lamps not working other 1 on the blink must have a loose wire surfaces not cleaned very well no lights working outside on the wall by the door ,only 1 light out of 5 rooms was on at night ,we'd already changed our room the day after we arrived as it was not accceptable at all Dblock 109 was the first room we were gave .Then we were moved to the same block room 204 was slightly better but still not worth the money we payed for this holiday restaurant was clean food was very bland no taste so mostly had the salad and just made a meal up breakfast was a bit better apart from no jam's or marmalade until friday don' t know why this was sfaff not very pleasant at all apart from the odd few 'the air con in restaurant was dripping on we so had to move ,the bar was about the best place very spacious and nice entertainment was rubbish stopped dead on 11o'clock so did the bar pool area was good and bar was good food was better there and easy access to the beach. This hotel could be beautiful if it the room's were refurbished because from the pictures you see are nothing like you get put into we are not the type of people who would normally complain we just get on with it but I feel this need's to be said as it's such a shame the inside is not as nice as the outside of this hotel I know people have been back here time and time again as I've read in some of the reviews but the only time i would return is if the hotel inside was reburbished would,nt rate this hotel even as a 3star and we have stayed in 3star hotels on many occassions and they have been lovely portugal is a lovely place maybe next time i visit this country I' have a better exrerience like the one we had in the old town many yrs ago . Stayed at the Auramar beach resort 13th July 2017 for a short break The hotel is made up of small blocks of rooms. The main pool is lovely and deep and the kids pool is shallow enough to safely sit a small child in to splash around. There are 2 outside play areas for young kids too. When the restaurant is closed, there is hot and cold food available at the pool bar all afternoon. The grounds are so pretty and well maintained. There are plenty of different seating areas scattered around the hotel grounds so guests can either sunbathe by the pool where there are lots of sun beds or more secluded areas for relaxing in shade on comfy seating. The views from the hotel across the sea are fantastic. There is a gate at the back of the hotel where you can walk down the path to the beach. From this beach it will take you around 15 mins to walk to the old town which is so lively with nice shops, bars and restaurants. Plenty of entertainment in town. The hotel is currently being refurbished, so there were a few parts of our room that needed attention but it is only 3 star and everything worked! Only real minus was the quality of the spirits and wine, not really enjoyable to be honest so we had beer instead Really enjoyed our stay and would return Collapse

We stayed here for a week in mid-June. The transfer from the airport took around 40mins which is not bad in comparison to other low-cost breaks I have been on. Upon arrival we were greeted with a glass of Prosecco/ Cava or orange juice which was a nice touch. We were lucky to have been given our room early whereas others were told theirs were not ready. We had to pay for the safe and deposit for the room key. I know this is still the norm for some hotels / countries but they really need to move with the times. Our room was in A block (sounds a bit like a prison) and we had a partial sea view. The room itself was dated and had 2 twin beds not a double but not a massive problem. The bathroom was small with a tiny window that opened onto the corridor. We had a small balcony with a table and chairs. The air con worked well which was a godsend as Portugal was having a heatwave with temperatures of 48degrees. Room cleaned daily, towels changed daily, sheets changed once per week. TV only had news channels in English. The hotel has a huge amount of steps, this should not be underestimated for those with mobility issues. The main pool was busy but a fair size, extremely deep which was a bit puzzling. Not much seating around the pool itself, it was on a grassed area to one side, this got very busy very early so up with the larks to ensure you got a lounger and parasol. There is a second smaller pool with loungers just behind the grasses area which was a bit less hectic. The pool bar was ok but opened at 11am and had quite a queue most times. The snack bar was good serving reasonable food such as salads, chips, pork / chicken etc throughout the day. The main restaurant was again good, waiter service for drinks and never had too long a wait. Typical buffet style, a bit repetitive however wouldn't go hungry even for a fussy eater like me. The bar downstairs was ok, again queuing for drinks which at times was 20 or 30 deep but organised. The entertainment was ok, we saw an Abba tribute act and a Brazilian Act both were good. The Strip is a reasonable walk mostly uphill, about 20mins steady walk. My husband walked to the Old Town via the beach and said it wasn't an unreasonable walk. It cost about €6 in a taxi to the old town which reception will ring for you for 50cents. The wifi is only available in reception and is not super fast. We did experience mosquitos on our room, so pack repellent as we had a number of quite nasty bites overnight. My concerns are that the queues were huge and the loungers were all taken and it wasn't peak season when we visited so goodness knows what it'll be like in the middle of summer. A good 3 star, don't go expecting more than that and you don't be disappointed, the hotel is adequate but needs serious updating but it was fine for what we paid. Collapse
