My girlfriend and I stayed at smart aston court for three nights, having never been to derby. The hotel was very easy to find being opposite the train station and was only about a 8 minute walk from the town centre. I was worried that staying at a hotel near the train station may be noisy but we experienced a quiet atmosphere which was great. Westfield is great, it took us two days to fully experience the variety of shops and i'd happily visit it again. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast buffet was very nice. Hotel price was also very reasonable and would highly recommend. Collapse

I enjoyed staying here because of its proximity to the train station it was convenient. It also wasn't too far from the town centre (15 minute walk to shopping centre). The hotel is very dated and rooms look quite old. I didn't mind so much as it was one of the cheapest options for the location. Staff were fine and let us store our baggage all day which was good. The rooms were quite small and ours was very close to another room. We were woken up at 4am by the lady in the room next door banging on hers trying to get in, her door was so close that we thought she was banging on ours. Not a pretty sight for me to see a half naked old woman in her underwear at 4am standing outside my room but can't blame the hotel. Just a shame the rooms were so tight. Finally there was a gross stain on our duvet cover that we didn't notice until late at night so didn't want to get up to complain but it made me feel a little uncomfortable sleeping in the bed. Worth the money to stay here if you're not too fussed about luxury and just want a good location. Collapse

We fancied a night away and this seemed a perfect hotel in a good location, very easy to find and great large car parking at the rear of the hotel, gates are locked during the night which is a plus point. First impressions were very good, some freshly painted areas and a clean and pleasant bar area. The reception was fresh and airy with a lovely lady that checked us in, there was another guest checking in just before us, an obvious regular which is always a good sign!! Check in was quick with plenty of essential information about the hotel. We paid for the room when we arrived, which we found strange as we would normally expect to be charged as we left. We had requested a room to the rear of the hotel as the hotel is on a busy main road, we were allocated a room to the side of the property, that was fine as when arrived it was fairly quiet, the room was very hot we presumed due to the sun (I know rare for the UK in April!) was shining straight into the window, we opened both windows to help with this as there is no air con or a fan in the room, the room itself was a reasonable size, with normal tea/coffee available, unfortunately there was only full fat milk, would have preferred semi skimmed. Bed was really hard when we first sat down, but it was really comfortable when laid down. The bathroom was a good size although the sinks plug hole was very rusty, the toilet seat looking like someone had left fake tan all over it as it was heavily stained, bath was very small. Location of hotel is really good for train station and the Intu shopping centre. Breakfast was served in a spacious restaurant area, although the buffet option wasn't available, we had the fruit and toast, our breakfast was cooked to order I would have preferred the buffet style as we did end up leaving quiet a lot as it was too much (not often you can say that!) but it was well cooked and hot, waiting staff were excellent and very pleasant. We decided to go to the Intu centre and was happy to be told we could leave our car in the car park even though we were checking out, this saved us £5 for the parking up there!! The only negative that I can find with this hotel is: Unfortunately we didn't sleep very well, the room remained very hot, the towel rail in the bathroom would not turn off and this kept the room very warm, we left the windows open which then disturbed us with the endless traffic noise and people coming back for the nearby pubs. The bed however was very good, pillows. Pull had done with having a choice of thin and thick. The hotel has so many steps, I didn't feel very safe in the lift so preferred the stairs, to get to our room on the top floor we had two lots of spiral steps, then three steps up and several steps down!! Not good if you have had a couple to drink or struggle with steps!! But overall this is a lovely hotel, stair carpets could do with relaying in parts and need to turn heating off in communal areas, but other than that we enjoyed our stay and would return. Collapse

After holding my mother's 80th birthday here a couple of years ago we decided to hold our wedding reception here as well, Chris and the team were excellent again from the start of the planning, and made everything run very smoothly, from the bar staff to the disco it was all excellent, the food was fantastic and because the hotel take care of everything in house it was completely stress free for us, thanks again for another fantastic night, I'm sure we will be back for a 3rd time in the future Collapse

you get what you pay for, cheap price, very convenient as very close to the railway station and to shops. The hotel is clean and quiet to a certain extend. The room are fine, but do not look closely: rotten bottom doors in shower, very old carpets, mold in the bathroom. No luxury but bedding seems to be clean. However, after second night of trying to sleep and having an awful back pain, I pull the mattress to discover that the bottom of the bed was broken! that was the explanation. Told the receptionist who gave me another room and the keys and told me i could move myself. I did, and it took me 30 mn, resulting in arriving late at a meeting. So came saturday night, exhausted and thought, yes, a good night sleep ahead. NO... there was a party in the hall next door, which happens to be accross the bedroom! Specifially asked at reception for a quiet room at the beginning of the stay. Rang the reception to be told that party would go on till 1 pm! closed all the windows and had to use ear plugs to be able to sleep a little. Conclusion: if you only want to stay one night and you plan to go out anyway, this hotel is good and cheap. If you want to stay a couple of days: forget it! Collapse
