Really nice hotel- one of the best Britannia's I have stayed at fir a long time. Room was very comfortable and clean. Very close to airport although we spent a day at the Trafford Centre first! Hale also has a lovely cosmopolitan-type feel- i.e nice bars/eateries etc. I also saw 7 Bentley's in the first 10 minutes. Really enjoyed it. Parking was ideal - real close to the airport- regualr transfers to terminal- great and a real bargain. Collapse

I recently visited family in the area. The usual hotel we stay in was full so booked this hotel on booking.com...it is safe to say we won't be staying here again. Eventually found the hotel which despite being in town centre was set back from road so a sign would have been helpful. At check in was told where room was but no other information such as when and where breakfast was served and check out time. Got to room and it had a 4ft double bed (usual size is 4ft 6) and a single bed with a mattress that was so old you could feel the old metal springs trying to poke through. The pillows are quite thin (key fob was same width). When I entered the details for room I put 2 adult and 2 children in search field and the hotel page said the room was suitable for 2 adults and 2 children, as a precaution when I booked I added a special note for 2 children to have either 2 singles or a sofa bed, not only got a triple the reg card said 2 adults only. So if you are a family beware and check your confirmation and print a copy. Only one night so soldiered on..son banged his head on light fixture that was overhanging the middle of double bed. What the management in their wisdom had done is move the double bed that was originally safely between 2 lights (standard) to the left to make room for an extra bed to increase revenue potential...they should have moved the light as well...so I moved the bed in front of the window to prevent any further head traumas. I did draw line at fixing the curtains for them and to be fair they did cover the flaking window frame paint work. The furniture was old and scuffed but it did the job, the carpet was however disgusting and the metal strip between the bedroom carpet and tiled bathroom floor was not screwed down correctly so another health and safety issue and if you look at my photo you will see what I hope to God is a piece of chocolate kindly left by a previous occupant. The bathroom itself was ok however no guest toiletries (at £94 thought they could have thrown in a bar of soap) so bring your own. Went out for evening got back at about 11. The time is relevant because the room was freezing and to top that no TV remote. Tried to call reception however phone in room did not work so had to go to reception...told the night porter room was cold, he told me he knew because everyone one was complaining however he was only the night manager and nothing he could do because heating was on a timer! On a timer in winter that turned heating off at night... inspired! Asked if there is someone he can call and he told me that he has called someone to come in and sort. I asked for a remote and he looked like I had asked for his wallet! He told me there was no spare remotes he did apologise and assured me he knew it was not acceptable because we were paying to stay...that's ok then! About an hour later the heating did come on and I am old enough to remember you can work a TV without a remote. Then came breakfast...check out the pics to see the vast cold breakfast buffet, the well cooked fried eggs and a picture of the breakfast supervisor eating her breakfast in the restaurant while we stood like lemmings waiting to be greeted and sat. So breakfast...... Decided to just sit at nearest clean table, cleanliness did not extend to cutlery and cups. Went to get some glasses of juice and managed to find some glasses slightly less dirty than others, the juice machine was broken which was not an issue as they had cartons in a fridge....that was the issue. The juice was in litre cartons which we had to open ourselves. The breakfast was a help yourself buffet which I have no problem with unless of course it is not refreshed regularly...guess what (check out the egg pic again)! The tomatoes were tinned plum, scrambled egg was dried out, bacon was luke warm and the hash browns were kept in the Bain Marie with lid on so instead of crispy they were steamed soft and inedible. Not all bad, the sausages were nice. Tea and coffee were not offered and when we asked for it a metal pot was promptly delivered to the table and promptly spat out (much to amusement of couple on next table until they got theirs) it was made with instant coffee, this was not a problem, the fact that it was made with 4/5 teaspoons of coffee in a 2 cup pot was. At this point I surrendered, we picked up our bags, waited 5 minutes for a lift that never came (staff decided to commandeer the lift for laundry run during peak check out time) said goodbye to receptionist and the half pint of beer that was on the side when we got back to hotel previous night and left. I likened it to a scene from a horror film when the survivors are filmed in the morning light leaving the haunted house having barely survived. I am not normally one to take to trip advisor to slate an establishment. I took the general managers details with view to contact Mr Lee first however the poor standard of service and cleanliness is totally down to the manager and the fact he has not responded to any trip advisor reviews speaks volumes. What also speaks volumes is the fact that Britannia Hotels have not responded to the reviews and indeed must be the catalyst for such poor standards of service and quality of product because they have made no attempt to address any of the issues raised by other reviewers. As I mentioned in the title "a masterclass in contempt for customers". If by chance you think perhaps head office is not aware they are based in same town! Collapse
Too cold, too old, too dated

Stayed for one night, tiny room, tiny TV, tiny bed, mould on filthy windows, freezing cold in an over-prized room. Only giving it two stars because the staff was nice. Apart from that, it’s really not a nice place.

Stayed in the night before we was set to fly from Manchester. The hotel had a lovely lady working on reception. The rooms were in need of tlc and deffo new mattresses as they wasn’t very comfy at all so not a good night sleep . This hotel has great potential though . I would use again but only if it had a freshen up and better mattresses if I was to use for more than one night but just for a 1 night stay deffo needs comfortable mattresses. Collapse
