We stayed at the Araxa this year as it was better value for money than the hotels nearer the port/sea. It was only a further 7 minutes away from the hotel we stayed in last year and was a pleasant 30 min walk to the Cathedral. The Araxa is close to the Bellver Castle which is worth a visit. We had a lovely spacious room which was light and airy, the hotel in general was excellent and the receptionists very helpful. Breakfast was varied and tasty, we were lucky enough with the weather to have breakfast outside on the terrace. The hotel is quaint, quiet, clean and has lovely gardens with a crystal clear pool (although very cold !) Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and look forward to returning. Collapse

We stayed here for one night after spending two nights somewhere else. On Arrival, the friendly (English) receptionist was able to give us an early check-in. The room is not very modern, but was fine. The view to the back on another building (far enough away to not disturb the view) was ok, and ensured it was very quiet. No balcony, but that is what you get when you book the cheaper room. Room was fine, big enough, bathroom was ok, shower was strong and warm. We spent some time by the pool, which has shady and sunny loungers and the waiting staff were friendly. Pool isn't heated, which makes the first jump a bit cold. The Sauna was switched off, and you had to ask the Sauna and steamroom to be switched on. The Jacuzzi, also in the cellar, wasn't very warm. The gym is well equiped for a Hotel. Breakfast wasn't very special. I wouldn't book it for the breakfast, but it has the basic breakfast on. A bit of a walk to the old town, but we didn't mind this, as the Hotel is quiet. Live Music on the Sunday evening at the poolside which was a nice surprise. Happy to stay here again Collapse

I stayed here for 3 nights with my partner for a city break. Palma itself is beautiful with lots to see: Bellver Castle, the Cathedral, the Marina etc. The hotel is situated about a 20-30 minute walk from the centre (near the Cathedral) but it's a pleasant walk using the wide paths by the marina. Adults only and in a residential area so lovely and quiet at night! The décor of the hotel is wonderful, 1950s style beautifully done. Think gramaphones, vintage switchboards and bankers desk lamps. We had a room on the first floor at the front of the hotel with a balcony which was very comfortable, especially because we had a large banana tree in front which offered some privacy from the road outside the hotel. I definitely recommend trying to book a balcony room. The bed was comfy (even though the double was two singles pushed together.) We had a mini fridge which came in very handy as there's a supermarket a few minutes walk away (€1.95 bottles of cava!!!) Tea and coffee making facilities. Good air con. Small TV (only one British channel.) Breakfast was very nice, buffet style with a slightly varied menu each morning including the usual eggs, sausages, bread rolls etc and some of the best breakfast muffins I've ever had! Fresh milk too. I've knocked one star off because there is definitely some space for improvement - the hairdryer in the bathroom was frankly useless and the shower curtain didn't save the floor from getting wet. I had to go down to the bar to ask for glasses to have a drink in the room. Not much information given at check in. The staff were all lovely though. I'd recommend a stay here if you're after something a bit out of the bustle of the city centre. Collapse

I booked this hotel for a four night stay. I wanted somewhere in Palma and with hotel prices sky high for early September this seemed good value. The hotel is slightly out of the city and uphill on the way to Bellver Castle. It's located in a primarily residential area surrounded by apartments. It's adult only and therefore no children running around. The clientele during my stay were generally older in their 60s plus as well as being more females than males. The location is way from bars/restaurants which are either a minimum 15 minutes walk or take a 10 minute taxi into Palma city. There are no real shops close by, however a Mercadona supermarket is in walking distance. I had a hire car and parking around the hotel was ok. I didn't use the hotels small car park underneath the property. It's an older building and I liked the quirky decor of the public areas. Old telephone switchboards, artwork and soft furnishings. There is a lounge area by reception with internet, books, magazines and games. The bar and restaurant area is functional. Public areas are spotlessly clean and well maintained and I liked the feel of them. Breakfast is buffet style and you can take this indoors or on the pool terrace where they also offer lunch and evening dining. The bar menu also offers snacks. Breakfast was complimentary however all other food was reasonably priced and decent quality. The pool is decent, set in a garden area by the bar terrace. Comfy sunbeds, no fighting for space and you can rent pool towels from reception. They also offer spa services for a fee with outdoor massages in the garden. Lots of birds flying around and it's all very peaceful and calm. My first bedroom was smallish and at the back of the hotel on the second floor overlooking apartments. The view inspired you to do nothing but close the curtains and was very disappointing. I didn't want to look into someone's apartment. Clean and well maintained although totally soulless and bland, the room had air con, mini fridge, tea and coffee, TV and decent storage. Bathroom was tiny with a shower which had the strongest water pressure I have ever encountered! Hair dryer and toiletries fixed to the wall. However the bathroom is tired and dated despite an apparent retiling. Clean but looking it's age. I asked to be moved after two nights of limited sleep. A guest in the room next door snored so loudly it felt like I was sharing with them. Despite being full, the excellent member of reception (male, Spanish in his late twenties? Sorry did not get his name) rustled up a new room on the first floor. This one was larger, still at the back of the hotel, otherwise identical. However this time I slept without interruption for my second two nights. Why only three out of five? The hotel needs to renovate the bathrooms and put in new showers to replace the dated hand held ones. Rain showers would work so well here. They should also replace the beds. They are too low and the mattresses are uncomfortable. The pillow is one long pillow and you can't sit up in bed comfortably. (I travel a lot and can cope with most mattresses however I had back ache each morning). And spend a little money brightening up the rooms with some colour. A small expense would transform the feel of the bedrooms. They should also sort the gym out. The kit is really dated and several pieces do not work. So my workouts were limited. They should also move the jacuzzi outdoors by the pool and liberate it from the basement. Finally the staff need to smile more. The younger reception guy who helped me was lovely as was one of the bar/restaurant staff, the younger girl with long tied back hair. However all the rest of the front of house/bar staff seemed bored or miserable. A real shame. If I came back I would want a pool or garden view room. These have balconies with outdoor seating.
