We arrived on Thursday 9th of Nov, We were greeted at reception by a lady who seemed nice we happened to overhear a lot of information she was giving people checking in in front of us lucky cause we weren't told half of it, example the gate to the apartments closes at night and you can only access through reception and through the tunnel. we dropped our bags quickly unpacked and got a funny smell straight away, we had the window in bathroom open and in the kitchen to get rid of smell. we headed out straight away. We arrived back later to find gate locked ( thankfully overheard conversation so then realised we had to go to reception) once we finally got back to our room the smell of sewerage was horrific even with the windows open it was horrible, I walked back to reception and the night manager was lovely told us to grab some stuff and he moved us straight away, Which was an inconvenience so we grabbed essentials and were moved to an apartment, the next morning i headed over to reception to make my complaint and say no way were we staying in the first room. I was met by the lady that had checked us in, she was the so rude, I was a bit mad at all the moving around myself and then we were told we couldn't stay in the 2nd room as we hadn't paid for an apartment we had to be moved to another room. I Checked the 3rd room which was the same layout as room 1 but no smell so we took that, She insisted we clear our stuff out of the first room ASAP, which i explained to her that we weren't in the hotel 24 hours and now in room no 3 so we wanted to get breakfast and go to the market and when we were ready we would then move, She wasnt happy about this and made it very oblivious to me and anyone standing in reception around me. We did move our stuff after an hour or so, in our new apartment there were a lot of ants around the kitchen and fridge, When i went back to reception to hand back keys of apartment 1 (had to wait about 15 mins for her to deal with me) i told her, she didnt even listen to me, took the keys and sat back at her seat and continued on her computer... RUDE!! on our 2 night there i had noticed i had mis placed my Passport and rang reception because i was worried if she saw me would she help?? thankfully the lovely guy from the evening before went back to the 2 other rooms and found it. on our last night we went to reception to see about a taxi for the morning as it was an early flight, The same lady saw us coming in got up of her seat and walked away after few mins of her realizing we weren't moving and she finally came out to us. I Really enjoyed our stay apart from that lady in reception, all other staff were so helpful and friendly, I would stay again, Dont get a remote for the telly we paid €10 for it were told load of English channels but only 4 we could find and 2 of them were for the news. We booked through Travel Republic who were doing a great deal at the time, as we have tried in the past to book directly, but as they've affiliates to cater for, they're not really in a position to do any deals directly. So I would always choose one of those internet based companies. I'd recommend you pay with a credit card, if that is indeed your booking route, just to be safe. Arrival and check in was smooth, Adey on reception was very informative, and had us booked in in no time, and thankfully, the family apartment accommodation has recently been upgraded too, from the old layout styles to a new upmarket style. The major changes are this: - Walk-in shower/wet room with a rainfall style shower head, and a smaller shower head selection for those who want to hose the little ones down. - Modern bathroom suite, all very luxurious in comparison to what was there previously. - Fitted hairdryers for the ladies (and gents) (so you can leave them at home), I have no hair, so I used it to de-steam the mirror after a shower - Free tip for you there! - Airconditioning - This is customisable on a per-room basis. Our apartment had 2 bedrooms and a large (new) sofa bed in the main living area, so that's three areas with their own AC. Perfect! The lowest temperature setting is 18c, which is cool enough by anyone standards. - Kitchen / Dining area has new units and furniture and comes with a cooker/hob and microwave and ample lighting. I would recommend getting some washing-up liquid from the onsite store, the prices aren't that much different from the main shopping areas, unlike some hotel stores that rip you off. There's only a couple of cents difference, even on the beach towels we bought, they were like €0.45 more expensive, so you're paying a little more for convenience. - Shared laundry facilities are on site too (in the area we were in any way, I can't attest to the main complex area). You'll need some coins and detergent, bring a couple of liquitabs in a plastic container if you want to keep on top of the laundry out there. - TV's in every room. You need to leave a €10 deposit for the remotes which they do give you back if you've not broken them. Some programmes are dubbed in Spanish, but if you play with the language settings on the remotes, they will swap back to the original English where available, there are a few native English channels available, as well as German, and obviously a load of Spanish. - Dining Area. This has had a revamp, and whilst we were there was still undergoing refurbishment and parts of the seating area were professionally blocked off. The food was great, there's always a pasta dish and plenty of chips for the fussier kids. Adults were well catered for, plenty of choices and as I say, give them a taste, it won't kill you to try something new. - Bar Area. Again, completely updated and modern in appearance. Plenty of choice for those who like a tipple from 10 am onwards. Pace yourself, it's not a race! The bar is open until 11 pm, and if you fancy something a little different on the cool evenings, I'd highly recommend the hot chocolate. Those are the main accommodation updates from our last trip that stood out. Now for the other 'stuff'. The staff are fantastic. One thing you do notice is that every staff member takes pride in the place. If even the maintenance guys come across a cup or a bit of litter lying on the ground, they'll lift it, there's none of that "It's not my job" mentality going on. There's always something being fixed, updated, maintained, painted. It's truly refreshing to see. Now, the site is currently undergoing major works. A whole floor of apartments was undergoing renovation on the top floor above the bar area. They start at 8 am and finish roughly around 4 pm. We were informed a month in advance of this and were also offered a 10% discount on our booking because of it. It's handled completely professionally. Everything is cleared away and tidied up, and apart from a bit of noise, it's not that much of a deal. If you're staying in the modernised rooms, you'll appreciate the effort and investment involved. The Animation Team are wonderful. Highly enthusiastic as always. They look after the toddlers in the morning (starting at 11 am) and there are activities for the adults during the day. If the management is reading this, get a new bow for the archery please (£400), and some new targets. Also, the air-rifle shooting could do with some new targets too! The evening entertainment is the usual cycle of outside visitors. Parrot show, reptiles, Cabarete/drag show, a local singer who 'almost' knows the words, jugglers etc. Get into the spirit of it, and enjoy yourself. Nobody knows you, and nobody cares, have a bit of fun. There's an onsite hotel photographer there too if you fancy some cheesy family shots. He's a grafter, I'm also a photographer, I could see him putting in some proper effort to get some good shots that you can take home to treasure. The rooms are cleaned 5 out of the 7 days. Plenty of clean towels are available, the bedrooms are spotless (you may be visited by some tiny ants, so keep your food sealed and in the fridge if possible, otherwise you'll get a whole load more visitors), and as we were checking out, new safes were being fitted of the digital kind for added security, not that you'll need it in my experience. I typically take about £6,000 worth of camera gear and digital gubbins with me, and not once have I ever had an issue. The cleaners in the past have always been highly trustworthy. Okay, so I've rattled on long enough I think! Why do we go back every year (even though we keep saying we'll try somewhere different at the end of each trip)? Well... It's safe, clean, friendly, the food is good, it's only a short walk to the action in Puerto Del Carmen (€4 in a taxi, though there is a free shuttle bus if you want to do that), and the pool area has plenty of places to catch the rays, either in the main hotel area, or across the road (also accessible via the tunnel (safe for the kids)) in the apartment's area. There's even free wifi for the kids with iPads. What more could you want? Honestly, if we tried anywhere else now, it would be a bit of a risk, and we know the staff now, some of whom have been there over 17 years! What does that tell you? If you've never been, go. If you're thinking of going, go. Even in November, it's roasting hot! We love it, and despite us always saying "We'll try somewhere else next year" we'll be back for a 6th time, of that I'm sure. We arrived 20th October for 7 nights, 2 rooms booked for a family of 8 but not next door to one another which I found confusing as they put a couple with no kids between 2 families with toddlers ..first Point of contact was a male on reception- extremely rude & not friendly. Thankfully the rooms were amazing, clean, well equipped & thankfully we were across the road from the main reception as I heard the singing from the bar or it could of been some cats fighting. Unfortunately we had to ask for some medical assistance the following morning from the lady on reception which was a complete waste of time as she was sending us to a hospital which was closed thankfully I called Jet 2 for them to point us in the right direction & she was quite abrupt just like the man the night before so after that we avoided reception. Food was good, staff try their best but if you have fussy eaters like most of my family I would recommend going self catering or half board. Wasn’t allowed to take a banana out of the restaurant for a stroppy 2 year old which caused a melt down after breakfast, silly rule in my eyes but I suppose they have their reasons. Entertainment for the children is fabulous, Ketty especially. Ketty got all 3 of are under 5’s up dancing which is not a easy thing to do with our lot. Bar staff and cleaners are all very nice and very helpful unlike reception staff!! They do run a free bus to the beach but we walked it as it is a nice walk, would recommend getting bus or taxi back up though. The little souvenir shop is nice and the gentleman working in there is really nice & helpful too. Would come back to THB flora just a shame about the reception staff who let it down. *** I gave 5 stars for service but please don’t include reception staff in that *** Collapse
