Self-Catering in the true sense of the meaning, but perfectly fine for me.

I’ve just returned from a week in Capri Bungalows, which was my second visit after having previously having visited with family in February 2014. The reviews on here tend to be complete polar opposites and I think this is genuinely due to expectation and what people expect to get for what they have paid. The fairest reviews, in my opinion, tend to come from those who are reasonable about what you can expect from the cheapest bungalows in Maspalomas. This review is not purely based on the quality, but also takes into consideration the price paid and appropriateness for my visit Many of my observations from my original review of this place remain, and they are as follows: - The décor is dated, worn/subject to minor cosmetic damage in some places and the apartments are far from luxurious. But, they are clean and spacious and have the basics included. - There is little in the way of on-site entertainment, and the 2 nights I seen entertainment in the restaurant, there was no-one in attendance. But, the staff in the bar and restaurant were courteous and the pizza I ordered one-night was ok. - The pool is not heated, which can make it too cold for some during the winter. But, it always looked spotless and the poolside area was kept clean and tidy. - There is a cost to hire some things, such as a hairdryer, kettle, coffee maker and safe. But, there is enough within the apartments to enable you to get by (pots, pans, cutlery, crockery). There have also been some improvements. For example, the old coin-operated TVs are gone and instead, have been replaced by flat-screen TVs that are included in the room price (no remote control or English speaking channels, but good enough for some background noise and a couple of sports channels). Also, you now get a 3 hours free WiFi voucher that can be used in the complex or anywhere else on the Island. My mobile provider doesn’t charge for data or roaming, but this was nice little extra for when a stronger connection than 4G was needed. But, please bear this in mind. These bungalows are self-catering in the truest form. There is not so much as a bar of soap, shower gel or washing-up liquid in the apartments, and other than noticing that my dishes had been washed or towels changed on 3 of the days when I was out, I barely seen any staff other than when I walked past the bar on the way out/in or at the on-site shop. Remember, though, this is most definitely reflected in the price you will pay. Check-in took 2 minutes, during which I was handed my keys and shown were my room was on a map before being left to my own devices for the week. This is exactly what I wanted and needed for my stay. I asked for a Bungalow (B24) at the rear of the hotel, which faces onto the GC500 main road, and my request was met. Some people won’t like this, as there is a fair amount of traffic but I requested this because I like being further away from the pool and bar areas and don’t mind the sound of traffic (it’s really not that bad). There were no problems from my neighbours at any point in my stay. I would recommend Capri for anyone on a budget who can look past small imperfections and who is happy to look after them self a bit. It is probably best suited to those who tend to use their accommodation mainly as a place to sleep, eat and relax for shorter periods of time. That being said, I saw a few guests who spent most of their time within the pool and bar areas and who also seemed to enjoy their holiday. Come here with an open mind and reasonable expectations of what you have paid for and I’m sure you will find that this place is absolutely fine. Collapse

What can i say except what a horrible place....i go to Gran Canaria twice a year and my usual place was booked out so booked Capri instead, the photo's looked nice and was a good price. When we got there receptionist was not very pleasant and chose to continue talking to her colleague rather than attend to us and the reception area is very small too....after finally being given our keys we were in Bungalow 6....what a blood tip....i could have cried it was awful....a wardrobe door that had fallen off and just been stood up against the door...the bathroom was grotty and full of rust and tiles broke....the toilet when you flushed lifted up....there was hairs in the sink....then when i went to the fridge it was filthy under it and more hairs...there is a light that hangs above the kitchen table that had wiring showing....there is a safe in the wardrobe that was old and you could probably just walk away with.....sheets on the bed had holes in them and the cleaners came every other day but they might not as well of bothered they are useless....finally to top it all off the door didnt lock properly and had to try 8 or 9 times before it locked.....the place is over run with flies and cats and the pool is filthy there is no way i would even let my son in it.....my advice is dont stay here....what a horrible depressing place Collapse

These apartments are cheap, but clean with plenty of room and nicely laid out with a large lounge / kitchen and spacious bedroom.. We stayed in November so the unheated pool was very cold but still usable (just), however there is no air conditioning so in the summer when the pool is nice the apartments may be too warm. Its was under 5EURO for a taxi to the Yumbo at night and there is a reasonable shop & restaurant on site + a SPAR 2 minutes walk away with plenty of nice restaurants in all the nearby apartment complexes. Be aware the 'gym' is a 5+ minute walk away in a separate entertainment complex and the nearby 'Faro 2' shopping center was practically desolate with only a supermarket, 2 restaurants and 1 shop open so avoid. I have never felt the need to write a review before but felt that it may be helpful this time for anyone possibly looking like I did before booking to go here. This was our fourth time back to Maspalomas and we are always sadly having to do it budget style!!! This time I chose the Capri as they appeared to match our requirement. There were other choices, which after speaking with some other people, I think they may have been better. So the positive of this is obviously the price, not too busy or lively so quiet in the evenings, a little restaurant on site which is okay and you can get a basic meal for 5 euros each. There is a little spar shop which is handy, is a little bit more expensive but any convenience store would be. The appartment which we had was the two storey (wasnt initially) and was a good size, had three saucepans, one frying pan, a few utensils and cutlery and crockery was minimal but okay. A fridge old and tatty but fine, sofa, table chairs, outside table and chairs, two single beds which can be put together. The negative points which are personal but in my opinion were really bad, were the beds, they were so so uncomfortable, I will sleep anywhere but these were awful, I guess if you are drunk and young maybe it would be okay, but if you are a bit older they really are awful..... you can get a lilo to put on the bed or use the cushion from the sofa to put on the bed like we did, which helped a bit. There are plenty of sun beds round the pool, sadly though these are equally uncomfortable and some are quite old and flimsy, so again lilo is worth investing in. The actual area in which the complex is, is quiet and holiday world is within walking distance. If you plan on going further afield then a walk to Playa de Ingles is 35 -40 minutes up one steepish hill, alternatively a taxi will cost between four and five euros each way. There is not alot to do on the complex itself other than chill by the pool etc. so if this is not you and you wanted to access more life then dont book there. The pool is clean enough, just tired, like the appartments which are very tired too. In fact the whole place is really tired, including the bedding and the towels, which were not changed whilst we were there and it was not particularly clean, but okayish. There is a lidls which you would need to really get a taxi for into Fernando which if you are wanting to save money and self cater more, it is really worth the trip on your first day of arriving. Ensure though that you take a phone with you and get a number from the lidl staff to get a taxi for your return, we were led to believe there were taxis around, but we didnt see them and got a bit stuck. The lady on reception at Capri was really good with our boarding passes, she did print these out for us free of charge. I hope this helps to prepare you if you choose to stay here, the lilos are between 6=10 euros.... depending on quality, it may be cheaper to pack some from here. Collapse
