Comfortable hotel in perfect location to walk to most of the sights. We had executive room overlooking inner courtyard which was quiet and had view if St Isaacs dome from the window. The Reception staff and concierge were very friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English, They booked restaurant tables for us each night and made an excellent recommendation when one was fully booked. We returned to find a complementary bottle of Prosecco in our room on our Wedding Anniversary from the management - thank you, it was much appreciated! They also told the restaurant as we had complementary desserts and vodka at Tsar . The hotel restaurant Borsolino was very convenient and good for dinner the first night and we had an excellent buffet breakfast there each morning. We would highly recommend this hotel Collapse

Stayed six nights. I had a third floor room. It looked on to a courtyard but the courtyard was quite large, neat, tidy and QUIET. Soundproofing from next room and corridor was excellent. Staff were efficient, kind and friendly. Hotel was clean throughout. Foyer and dining room were spacious and well appointed. Was in a group and we did not have dinner there. But we had breakfast and this offered all options: cold cereals, hot porridge (very good), breads, croissants, Danish pastries, bowls of cooked fruit, bacon, egg, sausage. You name it - it was there and plenty of it. Banish all recollections of travel during the Soviet years. Agree with others, this is a prime site, right next to the Astoria. I don't think there is a better site from which to explore the city and it is a beautiful city, well worth the trip. Collapse

Excellent hotel in prime position in St Isaac's Square, very convenient for all the sights of St Petersburg. Friendly and efficient staff. Room a bit on the small side but very pleasant. Our room looked out on a quiet courtyard but we were offered an upgrade to a room at the front. Hardly worth it unless you plan to spend a lot of time in the room. Excellent breakfast. Thoroughly recommended for tourists in St Petersburg. Collapse

Two thumbs up to the fact that the hotel is situated at St. Isaac's Square within walking distance to Admiralteyskaya metro station and Hermitage. When you further consider that its sister hotel next door, Astoria, as well as W and Four Seasons which are all at St. Isaac's Square, charge an arm and a leg for their rooms, Hotel Angleterre comes across as being of decent value (even though in absolute terms it is definitely not cheap at all). We had a room facing the Square / Cathedral. The room is not too big, but then, the white-ish décor inside and the layout, combined with the view of the square, makes the room feel very intimate. In addition, you can sit by the window in the afternoon and enjoy the sunshine coming in, while watching the world go by. A few points - The mattress is hard enough for decent sleep. Not sure about the air conditioning / heat, but the temperature of the room was more optimal if we turned off all ventilation whatsoever and just relied on circulation from the corridor. - The complimentary wifi was good enough, even for whatsapp video call and listening to online radio via TuneIn. Didn't try to use Youtube though. - Asked for a kettle to boil water to make tea upon check in. A large kettle and tea bags arrived within minutes. However, I think this is a city-wide issue... water from the tap tends to be a bit salty and maybe slightly yellow in colour. Those who are sensitive about it, just use bottled water to make hot water. - We stayed for 5 nights, and yes, if you really think about it, the breakfast variety is not that great. However, we kept eating the smoked salmon and herring every day (you don't get herring in Asia and smoked salmon here is quite expensive and not that good anyway). We also ordered fried eggs, and had their lovely bread. Most importantly, they had grapefruit and raspberries ! I like how they put the coffee machine in the centre of the restaurant so you can make yourself cappuccinos, lattes or whatever you fancy, for those of us who prefer to self-serve. The restaurant offers a view of the Cathedral. - Reception was friendly and helpful. However, when you try to ask them specific information about transportation and if the conversation alludes to taxis, they will try to convince you to book their taxi service. Just use the computer at the lobby (which serves as their business centre) and order a taxi via Yandex - quite reliable and affordable. We even used Yandex to go to Tsarskoye Selo and the airport. - Lots of restaurants nearby and must trys would include Gogol, Gosti and Teplo. - Guests at Astoria and Angleterre have access to the facility of both hotels, so you can go to the gym at Astoria (they have fancy bottled water in the gym).
