Every parameter is important for me to like a hotel were perfect! A great stay- with one exception.

Stayed here as part of a tour group from U.K. Stay was originally booked for 3 nights, but 3 weeks before departure tour operator wrote advising that due to an 'overbooking situation' we could only stay for the first two nights and would depart for our next location (Dresden) a day early and have an extra day there. This was rather unfortunate but the tour operator couldn't do anything else. However, my experience (rarely thankfully) is that when overbooking occurs it is because it could be a more lucrative (to the hotel) booking is honoured and the choice taken to cancel booking for tour groups. That may just be my cynical view, but I have often been right!! We arrived on a very hot day and on entering the room I was pleased to find the air conditioning was very effective, despite the curtains being wide open with sun streaming in. Much better to keep the curtains drawn when sun pouring into room to give the air conditioning a chance. Very modern bathroom with separate bath tub, glass walled 'area' with shower and the toilet also having a totally clear glass door. Easy to walk into this if unaware and seems rather strange to put a totally clear glass door here. Why bother?! Comfortable if rather firm beds with very large pillows, biggest I have ever seen, plus very small pillows. Minibar with usual overpriced items so avoided that. No coffee or tea facilities nor kettle in room, at least in the standard ones. Large shopping centre less than 5 minutes walk away with many shops and on the upper floor a good choice of eating places. Much cheaper to buy things here than from minibar in room. Metro less than 5 minutes walk away and also tram lines very close. Both gave easy access to the old town area and other parts of Prague. Metro very frequent, every 3 to 4 minutes and trams also frequent. I purchased a 24 hour pass from front desk for 110CK and once validated it lasts a full 24 hours. Much better then a day pass! Very large breakfast room with good choice of hot and cold dishes, breads, fruit, cereal, pastries and of course coffee machine and choice of tea bags. Plenty of staff there to keep things tidy. Now for the one exception - in my view. On the bed on arrival was a small bag - full English text printed on it follows - "Hang me on the outside of your guest room door before midnight to let the cleaning staff know you have made the green choice not to have your room cleaned the next day. As our way of saying thanks, Vienna House will fill me with a surprise gift for your contribution to saving our natural resources." This is one stage further from the standard notices in many hotel rooms saying you can save the environment by not having your towels and/or sheets changed every day. Yes, this does save the environment, BUT it also saves the hotel a lot of money in not having to pay laundry costs. The idea here at Andels is that they won't even remake your bed or tidy up, thus saving the staff time, and no doubt also saving the hotel money by less staff time needed each day. But if course the savings for their finances isn't mentioned on the bag. I regularly rehang towels to save washing and never ask for beds to be changed daily. This is simply wasteful and I was happy to go along with this so dutifully hung bag on door before going to bed. On returning to room after a busy day, I found the bag had been 'filled' with just one apple which didn't look particularly inviting. I was rather surprised that the hotel valued their cleaning staff's time so little by offering the guests wishing to 'go green' just a rather tired looking apple. This hardly 'filled' the bag, their word. If I have a problem I always speak to the hotel at the time to give them a chance to 'put things right'. I visited the front desk and spoke to a young guy about this and he said he would pass it onto housekeeping. Returning a couple of hours later the 'apple' was still sitting in my room so I took it and the bag back down to front desk and after seeing I was getting nowhere by speaking to the regular staff asked to speak to the Duty Manager. The lady (sorry I didn't ask your name) then seemed rather surprised that I was concerned about this. I advised her I post many hotel reviews on Trip Advisor and would detail my experience over the 'filled' bag. She was of the view that it was a 'green' thing and didn't seem to take my point that yes, it was a green thing, but also saved the hotel a lot of costs in housekeeping and that a single small piece of fruit didn't, in my view, adequately convey the thanks of the hotel in saving them costs. Cleaning of my room was offered, but I declined this as not needed, and eventually I was given a voucher for a drink in Oscar's Bar. Excellent bottle of dark beer. Some readers may think I made rather an issue of this, but I felt that it was rather a small reward. As a suggestion to other users of this bag, don't expect it to be 'filled' with anything more than either a small piece of fruit or perhaps a small bag of sweets. Unless the hotel change the wording on bag, or perhaps offer something more commensurate with their actual cost savings this will likely disappoint others. I do recall one other US based hotel chain (can't remember which one for now) does a similar system where if you choose not have your room cleaned a voucher for use in bar or similar is given. Perhaps Andels may consider this, although taking more out of their costs! This is my honest account of what happened. Sorry if it is rather more lengthy than most. I will leave readers to decide if they think the hotel is being fair and await the hotel response with interest. I would certainly be happy to stay here again though, as long as the overbooking issue wasn't repeated. Apart from the 'green bag' issue it was a great hotel in a good location in a wonderful city. Just a little more attention and perhaps rethink from the hotel could also put this right Collapse

I am taking the time to write this to be constructive and hope it will improve the stay of others at your hotel in the future. 1.check-in was chaotic. Perhaps this hotel needs to learn how to handle group arrivals 2. There is no concierge and the hotel needs one. When I asked the young folks at the front desk for restaurant suggestions, they had no idea where to eat dinner in the surrounding area. 3. I have eaten at many excellent hotel breakfast buffets. At this hotel it was a very tight fit. The tables are too close to each other. The coffee was not good, the food was not arranged well. It was difficult to put a breakfast meal together and the food was mediocre. I urge you to try it yourself and see what I mean. 4. The ergonomics of the bathroom in my room was very odd. First a clear door for the toilet is useless. Why is it there? Its not for privacy since it is clear! If u are using the toilet and want to read for a bit, there is no place to put your book or magazine when u get up. You cannot place a mat in front of the shower door as the door is too low to the ground to allow it to open when the mat is there. You have to kick the mat out of the way! The handles for water do not make sense since the on/off is on the left, not the right, so you have to reach across it and get your arm wet when you turn it on and adjust the water temp before you get into the shower. The bathroom sink is way too low for most people and the shelve for toiletries is even lower Turning the bathroom light on at night wakes your partner up since the light shines through the glass enclosure 5. The safe was locked and unopenable despite following the directions carefully. A handyman was summorned at 10p to open it with special equipment. 6. The air conditioning stopped working on the entire 5th floor. A technician came at 10.30p and we were lucky- he got it going in my room. . But some people were not as lucky and had to use fans for the hot night. 6. Having water bottles in the room is lovely. But wouldn't it make sense to use plastic? If it drops on the floor it can break and if its plastic one could take it with you during the day when one is sightseeing. 7. The carpeting leading to the 4th and 5th floor rooms were stained and needs replacement 8. The 1st floor hotel restaurant service in the evening at 9p was very slow. We ordered a soup, quinoa salad and hamburger and it took over 45 min to arrive at our table and it came out all at once. 9. Upon check-in my friends room smelled smokey and informed the front desk that they needed another room. The desk said they would arrange this. Upon returning after sightseeing in the evening, the room had no been changed and they were informed that the hotel was now completely booked and no room change was possible unless they wanted to change to the sister hotel nearby. This is not convenient when you are with a group touring together. You have a very modern hotel but in order to maintain a 4 star level and encourage people to return changes will need to be made. 10. There is a large mall down the block for shopping and the area has easy access to subway and busses but it is not in the main area for tourists and sightseeing Thank you for your consideration Collapse

I was lucky enough to be upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment which was incredible. Best hotel bed I've ever slept in. Coffee machine in kitchen was a real bonus. There are many good restaurants near by. Hotel staff friendly. Overall great experience.
