Hotel Amfora was within walking distance to the main walkway in Hvar where all of the yachts line up. I was disappointed in the room. The bathroom has an old heavy wooden door that slides very fast got my finger caught - it is a hazard. Room is small we had a balcony overlooking the water just don't shut the door behind you as it will lock you out of your room. The breakfast was a nice buffet - you can walk to most everything. A nice pool area for kids. The beach area was rocky as are all beaches - but the water had a lot of debris in it. Swim elsewhere. A/C is not that cold. Collapse

The hotel is very large with a wonderful pool area. We are a large family and after a week touring through Europe our children enjoyed the pool and slide. Since the hotel can accommodate hundreds of guests, they are fully staffed and efficiently move you through check in and breakfast. The hotel has a van that meets you at the ferry and transports your luggage to the lobby. You can then walk through town up hill to the hotel. It is convenient to the old city sites and restaurants. Friday and Saturday days and nights draw a party crowd. Weekdays are more family oriented. The hotel has not been renovated since 2007 and the HVAC systems along with the common areas show wear and could use a refurbishment. The rooms are small but comfortable, however also in need of a renovation. If you must have a pool and enjoy the "large resort hotel" experience, this is the best option in Hvar. Collapse

We stayed at Amfora as part of our honeymoon. I told them in advance and they gave us a bottle of prosecco in our room to celebrate which was a lovely touch. Our room itself wasn't amazing but you didn't really want to spend much time in the room when the pool and gorgeous views were so inviting. The pool has a swim to bar and a great slide! The water can be cold but was a welcome relief in the 32 degree heat. The only thing I would say is that it's a fight to the death to get sun loungers! Although the hotels policy is that people cannot reserve sun loungers with towels, everyone does and some disappear for the whole day leaving their sun loungers 'reserved.' That was really frustrating when we arrived 3 hours prior to check in and we're allowed to use the pool but had nowhere to put our things. I would suggest getting to the pool before 9am in order to get sun loungers. The breakfast was incredible! I can't eat wheat or dairy and there was plenty for me to choose from. Overall a heavenly location with friendly staff. Collapse

I would agree with a large number of reviews, as a family of 3 we stayed in a superior room. Room wasn't massive, but big enough. Breakfast choice was fantastic, everything you could ask for- fresh fruit was amazing. We always got a table overlooking the pool/ sea area. Staff are extremely friendly and the hotel was immaculate. I would recommend this hotel to other guests. Collapse

After 5 days at a luxury Villa in Positano i was initially disappointed by the small size of our Sea View room despite a nice terrace. The hotels service and location trumped the small amount of time we spent in the room. The pool area is a nice size similar to a typical Caribbean resort with swim up bar and a separate little restaurant on pool grounds. You don't need to wake up at 5 am to reserve a chair either as Hvar is a late night town so you can still get chairs at 10 am. The location of the Amfora is perfect. Immediately in front of the hotel is a small public beach. Remember that most beaches in the area Rocks; No Sand on the shore or in the water. The amfora is about half mile -not even 10 minute walk along a road adjacent to beach with a few restaurants and merchants selling goods. Very direct and very safe. Also id you head around the curve in the opposite direction from town there is a small beachside bar/restaurant and 300 yards later you'll arrive at one of the best locations you'll ever see to watch a sunset along the rocks. Take advantage of the lounge chairs on the rocks and grab a beer, water or soda from the small pizza place ( looks like NY pizza but its not and they charge about 10 usd per slice!!!). The sunset is also adjacent to a young peoples party club called Hula that closes at 10:30 pm Hvar was so much better than we imagined. The food was good (a lot of Italian), the service was spectacular everywhere as the young Croatians were very polite and all spoke very good English. As a matter of fact we came across very few in Hvar that didn't speak good English. We we t on an all day boat excursion toe the Blue gratto and a few other grotto's as well as some swims through cave's and local beaches where we dined at Laganini ( i think thats how you spell it). Captain was great, explained what we were doing and asked the 12 of us how long we wanted to stay at the beaches. There is a raft that carries no-swimmers and valuables to the beaches. The boat pickup was right in front of hotel next to public beach and went from 10:30-6:30 at about 85 USD per person. We found the food and beverage prices very reasonable in Hvar and the city itself beautiful Collapse
