Chose the ‘Superior’ room, which was spacious with a large en-suite shower and toilet area. The rooms are very well decorated with everything you need. The hotel is very nice with excellent staff. It is in a fairly quiet area and you may prefer something in the middle of the tourist areas, but a taxi is only a few euros. There are some nice restaurants just a short walk down the road. I cannot comment on the food at the hotel as we ate out all weekend. The reception staff highlighted everything we needed on a map and we spent most of our time sightseeing in the city and visiting Sachsenhausen concentration camp. If you have time to do one of the walking tours here, I would recommend this. We should all remember this period of German history. The Weihnachtszauber market at the Gendarmenmarkt is probably the best of the Christmas markets. You pay 1 Euro to enter, but it is in a nice setting with live performances on a stage. The Christmas Market at Schloss Charlottenburg in the grounds of the Charlottenburg Palace was also nice with plenty of stalls to choose from. Collapse

Had a wonderful stay here in December when we came to Berlin for the Christmas markets. The rooms were beautiful and the beds were lovely. I really liked the personal handwritten note welcoming me as a Marriott rewards member which was a lovely touch. The staff here were so friendly and made us feel so welcome. They really could not do enough for us. They really came into their own when our flight back to the UK was cancelled due to snow and they were able to give us a lovely room at a reasonable rate. The bar and restaurant here are also worth a visit. Separate reviews coming soon. This is now our first choice hotel for future trips to Berlin and we cant wait to come back!!! Collapse

This is a newly renovated 1920s Art Deco boutique hotel. The interiors are beautifully done. We had the Deluxe room with a comfortable pillow top King bed. This is their smallest room. It was small, but we were out most of the time so that wasn't an issue and there are nice areas to go otherwise in the hotel - lobby, bar, spa. The bathroom, however was not adequate for two people. It was the size of a closet. Two people could not be in it at the same time. There were no towel racks - only one hook in the entire bathroom so there was no place to hang two hand towels, two bath towels, and bath robes. The shower had no hooks either. We had to drape our wash cloths on the controls. There is no reason why the hotel cannot install more hooks at the sink and shower. The other major issue with the bathroom is that there is zero soundproofing. You can hear everything which is not pleasant. The only mirror in the entire room was over the sink. The sink is built for one person so there was no place with another mirror for the second person to put on make up, do their hair, etc. There was a mirror on the wall outside the bathroom that the door slid across. But, bizarrely, that mirror was a black mirror and you couldn't see yourself in it. There was a desk in the room. Why is there no mirror on the wall above the desk? Why not replace the black wall mirror with a real mirror? I had to ask the front desk to bring a mirror into the room. The hotel has a fabulous buffet breakfast in the restaurant. Everything was very delicious. Upon arrival the desk clerk raved about the award winning dinners in their restaurant. When we asked if we could make a reservation, he said they were booked for the entire month. The hotel had nowhere for guests to eat dinner and that was a major drawback. It has a very nice lounge and bar but it only serves very light bar food like potato chips. If you open the restaurant to people outside of hotel guests, then why not serve more substantial food in the bar for your guests? The surrounding neighborhood does have a lot of restaurants and we ate in three that were very good. But one night we were very tired, and it was very cold out, and we would have preferred to eat at the hotel. The spa was fantastic. Use of the sauna and foot bath is complimentary. My husband received two messages that he raved about. It was nice to come in from the cold and take a hot sauna. The hotel is located in West Berlin near Kaiser Wilhelm and shopping malls. It was a 10-15 minute cab ride to the historical area in East Berlin (Brandenburg Gate, etc.) and a bit farther to Gendarmenmarkt and Museum Island. The zoo subway stop is just a few blocks away. Overall, I think this is a very nice, beautiful hotel. I think it falls short of being the advertised 5 stars however. One last point on that, there really is not much concierge service. I asked one day if the hotel could secure museum tickets and I was told something about their system being broken which didn't make any sense. They did make restaurant reservations one night for us. I asked multiple times for reservations a second night, but got no response. Collapse

We have visited Berlin numerous times in the past 24 years but before this hotel re-opened 4 years ago. The hotel is on a quiet residential side street with a less than 10 minute walk to the Zoo U+S train/subway stations. It is a 6 minute ride to/from the Hauptbahnhof from the Zoo U+S station on the S3/S5/S7 lines. There is an Ullrich supermarket open 7 days a week just up Hardenbergstrasse across from the Zoo station. There is no need to use expensive taxi or car services, you can get to anywhere in Berlin or the surrounding Brandenburg area by bus, S-Bahn, U-Bahn or train from the Zoo station. It is about 1,200 feet (365 meters) from the station. Although it has be open 4 years everything is new and in excellent condition. We had a junior suite, without a balcony, facing Uhlandstrasse. It looks like there are two junior suites with a balcony on each floor. The junior suites without a balcony are slightly larger than those with. It is part of the Autograph Collection associated with Marriott so you get Marriott points and can also use them there. Despite what others have said it is extremely quiet, even facing the street at night. Garbage pickup and early morning deliveries never occurred before 6:00AM. The bathroom had a heated floor with separate facilities for the shower and toilet and had a bathtub. The room had both forced air heat and A/C and hot water heat radiators under the windows. The windows fully open if desired. The nightly turndown service was unusual, housekeeping offered shower salts one night, very nice eye sleep shades another night, small bottles of massage/relaxing oil on another evening. I expected the usual chocolates. Overall a very nice hotel in a good location. They have a ramp from the sidewalk to the entrance so you don't have to climb steps to get into the hotel. And the front desk staff are very pleasant. Collapse
