Just back from 5 nights staying in this hotel. At the moment there is a lot of work going on. It means there is no restaurant and no bar and a small dark reception area. However the work should be over by end April. Until then the entrance is down the side road as the front is all boarded up. It did not spoil our trip as the staff we met were all very friendly and helpful. Rooms are a reasonable size for city centre and were comfortable. Rooms have a mini bar should you want one. In spite of the work we didn’t hear too much noise and it stops at weekends. We look forward to going back whn works are all done and trying the new restaurant. Collapse
A birthday weekend away interrupted by construction work (No Hotel Bar or Restaurant)

I decided to take my Partner to Vienna for her Birthday and we were attracted to this hotel by its fantastic restaurant and bar facilities and close proximity to the historic city centre as advertised by it's website. We therefore booked a three night stay between 09/03 and 12/03. Thing started going wrong with our Birthday weekend away from the outset as upon arrival we noticed immediately that the hotel is currently a construction site with the majority of the ground floor facilities including the bar and restaurant not accessible to the hotel guests as these are going through improvements. We are annoyed and disappointed that the hotel did not give us prior warning that these areas are undergoing renovation and were not accessible as if we had known in advance we may have decided to stay in another hotel. There is still no mention on the hotels website that construction work is currently taking place and this is misleading to any future guests who may place a reservation to stay in the near future. This is very misleading. There are other issues that need flagging. 1. Upon 'check in' at Friday lunchtime, the female receptionist tried a hard sales pitch for us to subscribe to a Accor Group membership scheme, which would entitle us to 10% savings at future stays at Accor Group Hotels. The receptionist didn't take no for an answer, which frustrated us, bearing in mind we were both tired after travelling for 8 hours. She reluctantly accepted that we weren't interested after pushing the same question several times. The same receptionist didn't pick up on my partners passport that it was her Birthday, which was very disappointing. 2. The construction work meant, there is only one working lift that serves the ground floor. The other two lifts commence from the first floor, which means to get back to the ground floor, you either have to change lifts on the first floor or use the stairs. This is not ideal, especially if you have mobility issues. 3. There is no complimentary 'still bottled water' in the rooms and only sparkling is provided. Why? I have stayed in many hotels all over the world and this is the first time complimentary still bottled water hasn't been provided. I mentioned this on Saturday evening with the receptionist only to be told to drink from the bathroom tap water. I then realised there was 'still bottled water' in the mini bar, which is chargeable to the room. This should always be complimentary!!!!!!!!!! 4. The hotel utilised what minimal ground floor space they had available for morning breakfast. The breakfast is adequate although the construction work means there is no access to communal toilet facilities on the ground floor, which means you have to go back to your room to use the toilet. 5. When we 'checked out' this morning, the same receptionist who checked us in, didn't ask us if we enjoyed our stay, which was very disappointing. I'm sure if we'd stayed after the construction work had been completed, then this review would have been totally different. What we find disappointing is we were not made aware, prior to our stay that construction work was happening as had we'd known, we may have booked in another hotel or arranged to stay in this hotel after the work has been completed. At the very least we should have been given this choice. Collapse

Firstly a great location, the staff were very nice. We had a room on the 6th floor which is very comfortable probably one of the best I have stayed in for comfort! No noise problems at all however at the moment there are some construction works being carried out. Apart from the look this has had no impact on our stay so do not let this put you off in anyway. The breakfast was plentiful the usual cooked and continental but to a good standard. I would definitely return here should I be in Vienna again. Collapse

Only its rather central position could save this hotel from a disastrous review! And it is not the fact that the building is under renovation which bothered us most...! First, the hotel policies seem built on the idea that (most of) their guests are potential thieves... Concretely, they ask for a security deposit of at least EUR 100 (for "incidentals" they say), which is charged on arrival and which they claim to be refunded on departure, upon a mere "inspection of the room"... En fin, we assumed this otherwise upsetting condition when booking... Nevertheless, the reality proved a bit different, in the sense that they prefer credit cards to cash and are not so fast on releasing the sum after "inspection" (i.e., they'd rather let the time lapse and the formal request to expire than immediately notify the bank of the release. This kept our money blocked on the card for at least one month...). Second, the private parking seems apt to accommodate only tiny cars - due to its low ceiling and cramped lots... (an aspect which is not explained on the hotel site)! We were actually advised to use the public parking nearby instead (for a similar fare, it is true). Unfortunately, the latter has a not-so-much-higher ceiling and thus, in the lack of any other viable alternatives, we were forced to take down the roof racks and cargo carrier in order to get in... Third, there are no bars and restaurants on site (except for a room reserved exclusively for the breakfast) so, if hungry or thirsty, one have to take a good stroll up to the old city... As for the room we were lodged in (a usual double), it was very small, with grubby carpets and curtains and some ancient, dusty furnishings. Moreover, the lifts are old and run dramatically slow, with only one (the smallest, which is really small!) of them set to reach the ground floor... The breakfast was not very reach yet palatable, while the hot stuff (i.e. eggs, sausages etc) and beverages were, for an unknown reason, tucked away in an ancillary room which was not flagged up (so we learned about its existence and purpose only after we had finished eating..). On top of all that, the serving personnel was far from helpful (for example we asked for a child's seat and, since they didn't know if they had one or not, we had to wait for 15 minutes just to receive a negative answer... then, we asked one waitress for an espresso and, since she appeared to be "missing in action", after 15 minutes we had to ask a second waitress for the same thing... in the end, they both came with it...). Finally, the receptionists treated us quite unfairly (if not contemptuously) and tried a little ruse at the checkout... They claimed that, due to some administrative issues, they were not able to issue the relevant invoices on the spot, but that they would send them by e-mail as soon as the problems had been overcome. Later on, when (upset by their attitude) I returned and insisted for the printed invoices, I discovered that the money we paid in cash for the drinks we had had from the minibar had been registered (and consequently invoiced) only in part! I can only presume the rest had been stashed away by the guy who actually took it... All in all, this hotel is bad value for (a lot of) money hence I would definitely not seek accommodation with them again... Collapse

We arrived early for our two night break and were checked in by a helpful, bright member of staff. Nothing was too much trouble when it came to recommendations, making reservations and tips on how to navigate the city itself. The hotel was clearly under a refurbishment and we did find the lift situation a little peculiar. The room however was clean and well appointed. Very comfortable large bed and very nice bathroom. The only slight negative was the breakfasts. The food was fresh and plentiful but the waiting staff left something to be desired. Would return. Would recommend. Collapse
